Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Again, I ask. How could Kylo be lying when Rey is the one that reveals they were nobody?

KYLO REN: Do you wanna know the truth about your parents? Or have you always known? And you’ve just hidden it away. You know the truth. Say it. Say it.
REY: They were nobody.

Maybe he’s lying about them being dead and buried but that they were nobody came straight from Rey’s own mouth.

Man, the creative team on STD is really trying to course correct this season:
Star Trek: Discovery - Season 2 | New York Comic Con Trailer

They’ve slapped hair on the Klingons and are trying real hard to retcon it:

L’Rell explained that the change in the Klingon’s appearance was inspired by the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Rightful Heir” and the story of how Kahless created the first bat’leth from his own hair. The idea is that Klingons shave their heads during times of war and grow their hair during times of peace.

It also sounds like they’re going to try and slip in the TOS and TNG style Klingons at some point. Like they should have done last season:

“In season two, you are going to see much different designs,” Hetrick said. “You are going to see different houses you haven’t seen before. One of the most important things to us was that at this point in canon, as we head towards the current version of unification, the houses really each grow up on different planets. It is an Empire, it is not just Qo’noS…We have seen six of the great houses in close up in season one. As we move forward into the next season, I promise that we will continue exploring and unpacking and unfolding that infinitely interesting story of what the Klingon culture looks like on a wider level.”

I’ll be watching out of morbid curiosity. There’s no way you’ll ever convince me this is the Prime timeline.

Disney doesn’t seem to care about Blu-ray when it comes to their back catalog. A ton of it is already available in HD, just not on physical media. 20,000 Leagues for example is available in 1080p from iTunes, Amazon and Vudu. The same for The Black Hole actually.

They already have these transfers ready to go for their own streaming service.

Yeah Disney is the only one of these that has enough back catalog and resources put into originals to make it worth it.

They’re spending hundreds of millions on exclusive new series AND films.

And then there’s over 80 years of beloved content they’ve already built up over the decades.

Mangold was supposedly set to direct a theatrical spin-off film about Boba Fett akin to Solo, though that was never officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. If that was the case, it now looks like that’s been put on the backburner as they’ve decided to slowdown after the performance of Solo at the box office.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Time

As I said, tangentially. The way its structured is that there’s the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe which include Spider-man’s main films and then there’s Sony’s pocket universe consisting of the various spin-offs that Sony has planned. Holland’s Spider-man can crossover into either but the MCU will never acknowledge anything that may happen in the pocket universe. To Peter Parker its all one continuous universe but not to anyone else.

“Streaming series.” So do I assume that this will be neither on cable nor a mainstream streaming service and that I will instead have to subscribe to a whole new streaming service if I want to watch this?

Yes, it’s one of the many exclusive titles Disney is currently working on for its own streaming service.
