Life's too short for such nonsense. I like both shows anyway.

Same here!  Mr. Bester is one of the best recurring guest villains IMHO.

I'm just getting into B5 now. Was never interested when it originally aired. But after hearing Bruce Boxleitner talk about the show and his experiences last year I decided I should check it out. I then proceeded to forget to do so until this year. After attending the B5 reunion I finally got around to diving in. =P

After all those years there, it makes sense that wise Yoda would have something that keeps him up with current events around the galaxy and more entertainment. Let's put a TV in his hut (a large flat-screen, so that it's modernized for the audience); have it turned on in the background to Yoda's favorite show while they're having dinner.

Not going to wade into that one. Let old blood feuds die.  ;)

B5 fans seem to be a bitter bunch. When I left the B5 reunion at the PHXCC some dude was all, "Yeah did you notice how none of those trek nerds dared show their face at the panel?" He was very hostile toward anything Trek related.

I guess I'm not that surprised since Stracyznski seems to enjoy fanning the flames.

The Clone Wars would have been over for over 20 years by the time of the Empire Strikes Back. Why would they just barely be getting around to smelting things from that era? It made sense that the Jawas might have found the remains of one out in the desert after that amount of time. But not so for a floating gas mining colony in the middle of nowhere.

Are you 100% certain it's the Executor in that opening shot? I always interpreted it as look at how massive the bottom of this bridge section is, then cut to the entire star destroyer to show the scale of the rest of the ship which is then engulfed in the shadow of an even bigger ship that dwarfs the already massive star destroyer in size. The whole thing being a play on the opening of the original Star Wars.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Microsoft was an idiot. They've basically reversed roles from the last generation. Their major pitfall was investing in publishers and media giants while placing the importance on games and gamers second.

They've kept the same crappy system in place for Indie devs where they need to find a publisher to pay for a spot for them to get onto the marketplace. Meanwhile, the PS4 will allow for indie devs to self-publish directly.

I don't know how Microsoft thought they could get away with this idiotic DRM scheme. Or shoving the Kinect onto everyone as a basic system requirement. Not even Master Chief could save them this time.

Edit: Sheesh.

What is your personal Star Trek canon?
Time

Dang, I couldn't find my copy of the book but there's a brilliant part where they realize Captain Picard and Professor Xavier bare a striking resemblance to each other. This having been published LONG before the films were even a twinkle in the eye of Bryan Singer. =P

On the plus side, while I couldn't find that book I did find quite a few Trek novels I own but never took the time to read. Including one I don't recall ever purchasing. Apparently it's the first book in a mini-series about Section 31. And I had thought I'd never heard of them before watching DS9. Definitely a contender for the next spot in my reading list.

Thus far I've yet to encounter anything in the prime universe I'd disregard as non-canon. Abrams' Trek is just the weird dreams of a young Wesley Crusher as far as I'm concerned. =P Granted, I haven't read too much Trek. So stuff like Shatner's little journey with Kirk into the 24th century....I dunno haven't read it but that could be shakey. =P

One thing I can tell you with certainty though is that this book:

Is DEFINITELY a part of my personal Trek Canon. =P

Which Star Trek series do you like best and why? Who is your favorite commander?
Time

Hands down, definitely TOS. It was fun while also being intelligent. They weren't lazy with the alien design and actually had some alien looking aliens. There was little to no technobabble and most importantly it was character driven. Kirk, Spock and McCoy are what make that show. They were fun characters that were relatable.

Secondly, Kirk has never been topped. He was charismatic and intelligent. Always put others before himself. If there was a dangerous situation he faced it head on and never hid on the bridge. He was charming while also dealing with the weight of command and the loneliness that comes with it.

In contrast, TNG while still entertaining was weighed down heavily by Starfleet regulation. Now the captain was stuck on the bridge while the first officer handled the away missions. Everyone treated everyone else with a level of professionalism, even off duty. They'd rarely let their hair down so to speak. TNG was excellent but in a different than TOS.

Ds9 in comparison was a breath of fresh air after TNG. I hadn't realized how stuffy TNG had gotten until DS9 kicked the door open again. It got back to being about the dynamic characters and their interactions with each other. While there was technobabble to be thrown about here and there it didn't drive the plot, the characters did. It's my second favorite series after TOS.

Voyager by contrast.....eeeee. The first couple seasons were just terrible. It was the random abstract sciencey obstacle of the week that was padded until they'd come up with the deus ex machina technobabble solution of the week. That would then be conveniently forgotten about when it could have been helpful in later episodes. After that they had a couple good seasons that really developed the characters and their struggles before slipping back into the dreck and ended on a real dud note.

Enterprise was never terrible. The first season really developed the beginnings of Starfleet's journey and started to lay the foundations for the development of the Federation. Season two....I think season two is what really cemented the show's fate. It was pretty dull and I think a lot of people gave up after that. I know I did. Which was a shame because season three was great. Season 4 was the best. It's a shame they kept all these great ideas on the backburner instead of interspersing them through out the previous seasons. Had they done that the show might have found its legs a lot earlier on. But instead they horded all of the good stuff and then had to rush through it all in their last season. The idea for the finale was interesting but I think it really robbed them of their last chance to shine and stand on their own two feet.

I just discovered something curious on Twitter. On George Lucas's official twitter page he has posted a link to a short film (roughly 5 mins long) called 'The Game' and has said that if it gets 100 views or retweets, he may divulge some info about Episode VII.

His Twitter page... wow. :-/

I'm not convinced that it is his twitter. The account's not verified and all he's been linking to are videos by one Christopher Saunders.

ESB question
Time

Yeah you pretty much answered it yourself. The Empire was hiding its presence their until Vader sprung his trap. So when Threepio wandered from the group and accidentally stumbled upon a Stormtrooper (probably stationed nearby in case they try to run) he's blasted before he can warn the others. They then try to dispose of his body but of course Chewie manages to find it.

THREEPIO: Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I...I didn't mean to intrude. No,

no, please don't get up. No!

Chewie looks at Threepio in bewilderment, then scratches

his furry head. He gets an idea and adjusts some connections,

whereupon Threepio immediately begins speaking normally.

THREEPIO: Stormtroopers? Here? We're in danger. I must tell the

others. Oh, no! I've been shot!

Do you happen to know what their expected turnaround times are for each episode?

From what I've heard I think they're trying to do two a year.

My friends and I know of Vic Mignogna through his other work as a voice actor.  While he's talented, he's known to be a tad bit arrogant.

You know I've heard some of that floating around but so far I've seen no evidence of that in my encounters with the man in person.
