Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

Just for clarification, and so that I know I wasn't hearing things... "Canon" is now the movies I-VI.  I'm further under the impression that everything else will be reviewed and determined to either be "canon" or "not canon"... and that there will no longer be levels of canon with the exception of the afore mentioned "canon" or "not canon".

Is that accurate?

 Yes. Leland and Pablo Hidalgo have formed a group that decides what is and isn't canon. The level system has been abandoned.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

I've been wanting to get a PS3 for the exclusives for a while now. But a friend of mine is trying to convince me to just hold off and get a PS4 to play those games with Playstation Now.

I've tried video game streaming before with OnLive. Latency was not an issue and the picture quality was good but it was a little too soft for my taste. Which is my concern for the Gaikai powered Next. The picture being too soft would really bug me.

I really hope that if we have to suffer the offspring of the big three, they at least cast them as early twenty somethings and not obnoxious teens

 It's been 30 years since Return of the Jedi. Why is there any concern about their offspring being literal children?

I did not hate  Furlong in T2, i did hate him in that horrid 3-D movie as well as Arnold.  It was totally phoned in with a bad story as well and supposedly written and directed by Cameron.  Some even called it his T3.

 It's a ride for a theme park. What were you expecting, The Grapes of Wrath?

And what's with this skepticism of Cameron's involvement with the project? It's been well documented.

Kathleen Kennedy has worked with Spielberg for the last twenty years to create forgetable audience pictures with very few good exceptions.

 Just a small list of films Kathleen has produced:

Raiders of the Lost Ark

E.T.

Gremlins

The Color Purple

Back to the Future

Empire of the Sun

Schindler's List

Jurassic Park

Star Wars prequels were mapped out in 1981, only nothing like the way they turned out

It's pretty unlikely that in an entire galaxy, only two Force religions would ever spring up. There should be a countless number of religions and sects in the galaxy, all with their own philosophies on the Force.

But Lucas wanted to dumb down everything, simplify it so he could place undue emphasis on the Jedi/Sith dichotomy.

 Actually, Lucas introduced the idea of other Force religions in the Clone Wars.

In an interview, Dave Filoni broke down how Lucas had this idea of what others perceived as magic in other religions in the galaxy was just their own unique way of tapping into the Force.

I thought he had discussed it in one of the commentary videos on StarWars.com but it looks like it must have been in a Forcecast episode.

I highly recommend checking out the accompanying commentary videos for the various Clone Wars episodes. Here's one as an example. They're very insightful on the kinds of things George was up to. A lot of his ideas weren't...that great but every once in a while he'd come up with an interesting concept.

Thankfully, we had Dave there to limit the damage and turn out a great show overall.

I don't know how you came that conclusion. But instead of trying to dissect the article I'll just post the following twitter conversation with one of the men in charge of Star Wars canon:

@A_Targaryen 6 Jan

@HolocronKeeper will the new Marvel Star Wars comics be considered canon or they could still be contradicted by the movies and tv shows?

@HolocronKeeper 6 Jan

@A_Targaryen Story Group has a hand in all facets of Star Wars storytelling, including movies, TV, games, and publishing.

@12MG12 6 Jan

@HolocronKeeper @StephenVincent Are you implying that the goal is to dispose of the hierarchy and have one cohesive canon?

@HolocronKeeper 6 Jan

@12MG12 @StephenVincent That's definitely a primary goal of the Story Group.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

The original negative is in seriously rough shape after their first restoration. Here's a snippet of an interview with one of the people that worked on that restoration:

Tanaka: I remember when we were working on the Star Wars restoration, that was a different process. I think we optically recreated interpositives. But in order to do this, it went through some kind of warm chemical bath cleansing. The weird thing about Star Wars was that it was made up of different film stocks, so it went through this bath and they didn’t know what would come out on the other end...

Parker: You mean if it would survive or not? ‘George we might destroy your entire film, but it’s... we think it’s going to be OK.’

Tanaka: There’s a space battle shot and a close-up on Hans Solo, and the original negative is coming out of this cleaning solution and it’s just acetate.

Parker: It’s all clear. Oh no, did the bath dissolve it?

Tanaka: Yeah, it dissolved it, depending on the film stock.

Saving Mr. Banks (2013)

This film surprised me. I thought it was going to be a bit of lighthearted fun with Walt and a stubborn author. It turned out to be much more than that. Interestingly, while watching the film I couldn't help but compare it to the year's other big biopic Hitchcock. Both detail the creation of a classic film and use flashbacks as a story device. But Mr. Banks had much more of a heart. Wonderful film.

 Other than one new lost era novel i see no other TOS star trek novels or comics.  And it is still true that they don't make any more tv shows or movies in either the tos prime universe or next gen timeline.

Most of the fan focus is on the JJ Star Trek comics i hate and loathe them will never accept them.  Although i might have been interested in an adaptation of Into Darkness in comic book form.  I liked the one for 2009 enough i suppose.

 Uh...what?

Kirk meets 7 of 9 on February 27th, 2014.

IDW is currently reprinting the original Star Trek comics by Gold Key. They also just released this odd little number:

A photonovel sequel to the episode Where No Man Has Gone Before.

As for Trek fans, they just recently voted Into Darkness the worst Star Trek film of all time.

They also drove Roberto Orci off of twitter.
