Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

As news about the forthcoming Star Wars 7 shoot continues to leak out, the latest reports suggest that Iceland has been added to the list of filming locations.

According to Icelandic site visir.is, the crew will be heading for the Scandinavian nation this Spring ahead of the main production kicking off in May.

However don’t expect to see Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford et al on Icelandic soil, as it appears that the production team have mainly landscape shots in mind.

The site reports that Iceland will be used mainly for filming landscape ‘plate shots’ which will then be used for scenery – although the news has sparked speculation that the movie could be partly set on the ice planet Hoth.

It's the official Star Wars blog. Every part of that post was meticulously thought out. They're not going to just throw in that little tidbit at the end unless they're certain of their facts. They know how fast that kind of news travels and what a mess it would be if they would have to retract such a statement later on.

What do you HATE about the EU?

The tweet Kilroy refers to was from Pablo Hidalgo back in December. It caused quite a stir because he basically said the only things that were ever "canon" are the movies and the clone wars series. In other words "only what's up on screen." Everything else in this model is merely "continuity."

Was able to track it down. That does muddy the waters but it wasn't an official statement of policy. It was an off the cuff remark.

If their intention was to completely do away with the EU then they wouldn't have been so quick to cobble that retcon together for the Korriban/Moraband debacle.

We'll have to wait for an official announcement before we know where the dust has settled.

1. I saw it in a tweet that was captured and posted either here or at TFN by someone from Lucasfilms (Dave Filoni?).  I'm not going to be able to link because it was weeks ago and is lost to me.

2. The point is that I was answering the OP... "What do you hate about the EU?" answer being, that people continue to take it seriously after it has been rendered a pile of pro fan fic, referring back to the "nothing counts anymore" nature of the tweet to which I referred.

Again, no such announcement was ever made.

What was announced is that the tiered classification system for the EU has been eliminated. Now whether it be movie, game or book they're all equal in the Star Wars canon now. With this, some material will most likely be labeled completely non-canon but what that material is has not been announced.

They dub Ewok dialog from Jedi over them, with a subtitle that says something like "You go, Lando!"

That's definitely not a soundbite from ROTJ. I'd bet the sound team over at Lucasfilm recorded it for them though. Here's Billy Dee's entire segment.

Speaking of ROTJ, I'm loving this BTS footage.

I'm still mad that from what I understand the Episode VII script has been tweaked as to focus more on the original cast than intended.  Part of me wonders why I care at all, but ... still.  I want new faces.

It has also been confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VII is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.

I assume it's that and not that actual magic box he never opened.  Still seems a bit of a stretch to put it in the cartoon.  The Bad Robot shirt works better.

No, the mystery box is his whole shtick. It's his belief that mystery itself is what's important. So he's made it a habit in most of his productions to introduce mysterious elements in them and then never resolving them. Most of the time because there never really was an answer. They're mysteries for mystery's sake and I've always found that incredibly lame.

Do you think that they don't know that people that care for the OUT exists? Of course they do! They simply don't think there are enough of us out there to justify releasing the OUT in Blu-rays, 4k or whatever format they come up with.

The OUT hasn't been released in a higher quality format because George specifically never wanted it to be. The SE's are his "true vision" and as such he has abandoned the theatrical versions. Now that he's almost completely out of the picture we may someday actually see the OUT.

And just so we can get something clear here, you do understand that the OUT has more than enough picture information to be released in today's modern high definition formats without the need for any upconverting, right?
