Besides "The films need to be the way I want them," has Lucas stated anything as to why the Blu-rays became the travesty that they are?

Tanaka: I remember when we were working on the Star Wars restoration, that was a different process. I think we optically recreated interpositives. But in order to do this, it went through some kind of warm chemical bath cleansing. The weird thing about Star Wars was that it was made up of different film stocks, so it went through this bath and they didn’t know what would come out on the other end...

Parker: You mean if it would survive or not? ‘George we might destroy your entire film, but it’s... we think it’s going to be OK.’

Tanaka: There’s a space battle shot and a close-up on Hans Solo, and the original negative is coming out of this cleaning solution and it’s just acetate.

Parker: It’s all clear. Oh no, did the bath dissolve it?

Tanaka: Yeah, it dissolved it, depending on the film stock.

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (2002)

Finally finished this game. Wow. Seriously, why is this not better known? It was a fantastic game with a great story, perfect setting, the attention to the detail was amazing. It felt like a living world, there was always something happening. They seriously did their homework on this one. I had a great time with this game, the mechanics were solid. Even just driving around the city and countryside was fun.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Wow. This game was PHENOMENAL! The story was top notch, I'd even go so far as to say better than the film's. The dialog was sharp and witty with excellent characterizations all around. Not to mention how ridiculously fun it is. With fantastic gameplay that keeps you engaged and never bored. And the scope of the game is enormous. The size of some of the fights are truly epic. I really don't understand the Arkham franchises struggles with civilians now. This game was PACKED with cars and pedestrians EVERYWHERE and yet Arkham Origins and the upcoming Knight both fall back on the lame excuse of everyone being told to remain inside leaving the world only populated with enemies. Terrific game, now I can't wait for the sequel.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

I'd rather have it be a mistery/thriller plot involving some elements from the past, thus having the investigator (Luke) revisit places from the OT, probable looking for something Vader left behind. On his way, he could find young children strongly sensitive to the Force. As a secondary story, the New Republic is being reorganised.

And I strongly believe in the end it will be something like that, because it's the first movie of a new series and they will have Vader be present somehow as a reassurement.

hmmm....

The Prequel Era Has Ended, Long Live the Original Trilogy!
Time

I was reminded once again by this new video that we are indeed entering into a new golden age of Star Wars content. We spent a decade on the Prequels and now the focus has finally come back to the Original Trilogy and I'm loving it.

Who knows what VII may hold but until then it's going to be a fun ride.

And I politely disagree, my breaking the fourth wall argument is valid and has been from the very beginning and nothing anybody has said has changed that as you yourself have admited.

But now that frame in Star Wars breaks the fourth wall like Old Ben points out in my post right?

Almost Human (2013)

Karl Urban continues to be awesome. I really hope they pick this up for another season.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)

The first half of the season wasn't anything to write home about but it has consistently gotten better and now I'm of the opinion that if you dig the movies you need to watch this show.

Gravity Falls (2012)

A fun show the likes of which I would have expected to see on Cartoon Network not Disney. Explores all of the cryptozoological and mysterious subjects that fascinated me as a kid. Good stuff.

Having seen a few Marvel movie duds I've grown a strong disliking for any movie that has to do with Marvel. Couldn't care less.

Were they X-men, Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Blade, Punisher or Ghost Rider related? If so, Marvel Studios had no hand in them.

They were X-men, Spider-Man 1 & 3, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Ironman and Hulk. Didn't say anything about Marvel studios, just anything that has to do with Marvel.

See, Marvel only did one of those and I'm betting you mean the Eric Bana Hulk. Ugh, that was a disaster.

The newer Hulk with Edward Norton was pretty decent. What I'd recommend though is giving The Winter Soldier a try. They're trying to diversify their films and that one happens to be a political thriller. A good one too.

I'm well aware that TOS used a lot of human aliens. My point, though, is that this can be excused because of budgetary/technological limitations of the time; I see no similar reasons for why most of the aliens on TNG looked the way they did.

...

TNG had the same budgetary and technological restrictions that TOS faced. TNG had a bigger budget but it was by no means unlimited. Creating complicated non-humanoid aliens for one-off episodes weekly was and is highly impractical. CGI was still in its infancy at the time so there was no out there either.

And this is leaving out the almost impossible deadlines they faced for every episode. You can cheat sets quickly but creature effects are something else entirely.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

So recently it was revealed that a Darth Maul game was in the works before the Disney merger would see it cancelled. Game Informer did an article about it. I thought I should share this excerpt:

The next day, Red Fly finally met with George Lucas, but not before being told how to talk to him. Our source says they were told to never say "No" to him, or to say, "Yeah, that will be easy." They were also told not to mention Force Unleashed's protagonist, Starkiller. If he's referred to by George, it will be "that guy." The most important rule, much like not feeding a Mogwai after midnight, was "Don't tell George how the Force works."

Red Fly's representatives arrived at the meeting point early the next day, only to find Lucasarts employees rushing Force Unleashed artwork out of the conference room, and replacing it with other Star Wars artworks, including the placement of the Sideshow Collectibles statues of Darth Maul and Darth Talon to the table.

A friendly George Lucas entered the room and was eager to hear the pitch from Red Fly's creatives, "Before they could finish their spiel, Lucas cut them off, stood up, walked over to the statues, rotated them to be facing the same direction, pushed them together, and said 'They're friends!'"

"He wanted these characters to be friends, and to play off each other. He talked about the show Burn Notice as a reference point. He likened Darth Maul to Sonny from The Godfather and he likened Darth Talon to Lauren Bacall. He actually did an impersonation of her. It was supposedly the weirdest impersonation of a '40s actress going, 'Don't you know how to whistle? Put your lips together and blow.'"

(Special thanks to Tyrphanax for bringing the article to my attention!)

I definitely recommend checking out the documentary Drew: The Man Behind the Poster. It's on Netflix. The stories that filmmakers tell about the resistance they get from the studios to using good posters is nuts.

So the two hour special was...kind of a bust. In that the first half was just a rerun of last week's episode. The new episode was great though! So glad they stuck to their guns with Ward.
