Lucasfilm clarifies the future of the EU
Time

This new trilogy is based on a story outline by George. So nothing about their kids as they are in the EU is in there. If the rumors are true about Luke having a daughter I'll be really surprised as he was always adamant that Luke never married.

But I agree with you about an established history inspiring creativity and not being a constraint. I've always been annoyed by that excuse.

Everyone is always quick to place blame on Disney. This decision was made under the direction of Kathleen Kennedy, the new head hand picked by Lucas. Disney doesn't micromanage their companies.

The question then becomes why was this decision made? Most likely it was suggested by the senior franchise handlers after their experience with the Clone Wars.

They're married to the idea of a unified universe and knew that the new people coming in wouldn't want to be saddled with all of the post-ROTJ continuity. And there was no way they'd be able to retcon something as big as changing the big three's children.

So this way they can start fresh and oversee everything to make sure it all agrees and they can work in the best elements of the old continuity. Kennedy new to the company decided to trust their judgement and went along with it.

Oh, and someone was wondering about the character from the Marvel comics that eventually made their way to higher levels of canon? That would be Lumiya, who was brought back for the Legacy of the Force novels.

She's not the only one to make it out of the Marvel comics. Quite a few elements made it out. Fenn Shysa is another notable character as well as the Tagge family.

As I said on another thread its a pity they didn't jettison the CW cartoons also,.....(Darth Maul....back from the dead....with Robo-Legs is canon???)

J

That came straight from the mind of George, so yes.

The general gist was that they are gonna pick and choose which bits they want and which bits they want to ignore. "Maul back from the dead" is still in CW, but they don't ever have to mention him again if they don't want to.

True it never has to be brought up again but it is canon.

He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.

Nice to know this is still playable.

A few weeks ago on a lark I decided to check and see if there was an app to play text adventures on android. AND THERE TOTALLY IS. So I started playing the original ADVENTURE (1975). Still really fun, I had never played it before. My first text adventure was ZORK back in the dayBut yeah, any text adventure you want can played in that app. Really intuitive design based on around an SMS type interface.

actually, the reworking of the script to put focus on the OT heroes gives me just a bit of faith.

It's the rewrite that has me worried. The original writer they had always wrote intelligent character driven stories. It's great that Kasdan is in charge of the rewrite but he's doing it with Abrams. Who is a great director but the scripts he ends up with are usually pretty bad.

Star Wars prequels were mapped out in 1981, only nothing like the way they turned out

Even with Lucas' anyone can learn the Force thing he still sticks to the idea that some people are inherently stronger in their connection to it than others

Just before one person is born with a strong connection to The Force doesn't mean that someone else can't develop a strong connection through their actions. One can be born muscular, but someone who isn't can become muscular by lifrimg weights.

A short 5'1 scrawny fellow can train all he wants and go from a flyweight to a lightweight but he's still not going to be able to take on a 6'2 heavyweight.

Even with Lucas' anyone can learn the Force thing he still sticks to the idea that some people are inherently stronger in their connection to it than others:

The Skywalker line is very strong with the Force, so Ben says, “I think we should protect the kids, because they may be able to help us right the wrong that your husband has created in the universe.”

So while you could train others, they still wouldn't be a match for those that are naturally more attuned to it like the Emperor and Vader.

The beard diverts attention from the rest of his face and from the fact that he's getting really old, and it makes you almost forget that he'll be needing a walker by the time Ep VIII gets released ;)

Always with the walker jokes. Just because you're old doesn't automatically make you a weak feeble push over. Look at Bill Shatner:

The man is 83 years old and still going strong. Harrison is a whole 12 years younger than this man and you're already ready to relegate Han Solo to the old folks home?

Besides "The films need to be the way I want them," has Lucas stated anything as to why the Blu-rays became the travesty that they are?

Tanaka: I remember when we were working on the Star Wars restoration, that was a different process. I think we optically recreated interpositives. But in order to do this, it went through some kind of warm chemical bath cleansing. The weird thing about Star Wars was that it was made up of different film stocks, so it went through this bath and they didn’t know what would come out on the other end...

Parker: You mean if it would survive or not? ‘George we might destroy your entire film, but it’s... we think it’s going to be OK.’

Tanaka: There’s a space battle shot and a close-up on Hans Solo, and the original negative is coming out of this cleaning solution and it’s just acetate.

Parker: It’s all clear. Oh no, did the bath dissolve it?

Tanaka: Yeah, it dissolved it, depending on the film stock.

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (2002)

Finally finished this game. Wow. Seriously, why is this not better known? It was a fantastic game with a great story, perfect setting, the attention to the detail was amazing. It felt like a living world, there was always something happening. They seriously did their homework on this one. I had a great time with this game, the mechanics were solid. Even just driving around the city and countryside was fun.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Wow. This game was PHENOMENAL! The story was top notch, I'd even go so far as to say better than the film's. The dialog was sharp and witty with excellent characterizations all around. Not to mention how ridiculously fun it is. With fantastic gameplay that keeps you engaged and never bored. And the scope of the game is enormous. The size of some of the fights are truly epic. I really don't understand the Arkham franchises struggles with civilians now. This game was PACKED with cars and pedestrians EVERYWHERE and yet Arkham Origins and the upcoming Knight both fall back on the lame excuse of everyone being told to remain inside leaving the world only populated with enemies. Terrific game, now I can't wait for the sequel.
