But all he did was express an opinion and the boards got invaded by people dissing him for biologically reproducing.

Were we reading the same thread? HotRod made fun of their podcast and said they were pathetic and had no lives. C3PX brought HR's kid into it to insult TB for not having a child of his own. All TB and the others were trying to point out is we're all nerds, so why make fun of them when we're not that different from each other.

Wow, HotRod was incredibly rude in that thread. I have to say I back TB's side in that discussion.

What's the difference between a podcast about WoW or film? Nothing as far as I can see, it's just people talking about the things they're into. Why disparage someone for being enthusiastic about something they like?

That's about on level with knocking someone's books out their hand and shouting, "NERD!"

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. SPOILERS AHEAD

Really dug last night's episode. Didn't see the revelations about T.A.H.I.T.I. coming at all but it makes sense given his past work we've seen in the films.

Also cool but strange to see Lola back in the mix. My brain just automatically says BTTFII when I see flying cars. It seems like an odd thing that doesn't quite fit the universe but even in the Winter Soldier Fury's Suburban was referenced as having that capability, it was just disabled.

Pretty disappointed in Skye though.

Lucasfilm clarifies the future of the EU
Time

Timothy Zahn's thoughts on the EU announcement:

Having now had a few days to process the news from LFL, a few thoughts:

First, since many of you are wondering, I have *not* yet been asked to write any new Star Wars books. But that doesn’t mean I won’t receive such an invitation in the future. If that happens, whether or not I accept will depend on what kind of story I’m asked to write, what input I’d have on the content, what era the story will be set in, etc. I would certainly *like* to return to the GFFA, but at the moment that’s not my decision to make.

Second, as far as I can tell from the announcement, LFL is *not* erasing the EU, but simply making it clear that nothing there is official canon. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, nor does it immediately send everything into alternate-universe status. If nothing from the Thrawn Trilogy, say, is used in future movies (and if there’s nothing in the movies that contradicts it), then we can reasonably continue to assume that those events *did* happen. It looks to me like the “Legends” banner is going to be used mainly to distinguish Story-Group-Approved canon books from those that aren’t officially canon but might still exist.

Third, even if something from the Thrawn Trilogy *does* show up in a movie in a different form, we authors are masters of spackle, back-fill, and hand-waving. For example, if Ghent appears in the movies but never mentions Thrawn, I can argue that he simply doesn’t want to talk about that era, or else has completely forgotten about it. (Which for Ghent isn’t really much of a stretch.)

Finally, there’s nothing inherently demeaning in the term “Legends.” Think back (a little farther…a little farther) to Disney’s 1950s “Davy Crockett” TV series, (a show I grew up with) which presented stories and legends about the King of the Wild Frontier. Historians have Crockett’s genuine history, but there’s nothing that says these TV adventures *didn’t* happen, right? So until and unless the legend puts Davy in Tennessee at the same time the real history puts him in Virginia, we can still believe those adventures happened. That’s how I expect it to be with the “real” Star Wars history versus the “legendary” adventures of the EU.

Bottom line: let’s all sit back and relax and see what new adventures are offered to us, both in new books and new movies. It’ll be Star Wars, and that’s what counts.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Time

Joe Quesada, Marvel's chief creative officer recently did a podcast and discussed the four new Netflix series that are in development. Here are some choice quotes:

“There will be some interconnectivity, much like the movies. They will exist within the cinematic universe again, so this is all the same world as S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.”

“Although these are superhero stories, this is different now. This is the street level…this is the street level noir side of the Marvel Universe. Something that you haven’t really, really seen in any of our Marvel movies, and probably more ground level, than I think you’ve seen. This is not like us doing Batman, Dark Knight or any of that stuff. This is very Marvel doing street level superheroes.”

“The scripts are coming in. They are pretty fantastic. They’re really emotional. They’re very, very original. But at the same time, it is Daredevil. It is Matt Murdock. We will eventually, hopefully start casting really, really soon, but I’m very, very excited about it.”

Chewie had a stand in on ESB, no reason someone can't double Peter for anything involving running down a corridor.

Yes, he had a stand-in during ESB and it never worked. They ended up refilming all of the stand-in's work because it just wasn't Chewie without Peter.

Lucasfilm clarifies the future of the EU
Time

They own Lucasfilm now yes. But they leave their various companies to mange themselves. It basically comes down to Disney ordering a bunch of movies and then leaving Lucasfilm alone to their own devices as to how to go about it.

Same as how Kevin Feige runs Marvel Studios. He's the one calling all the shots and Disney is basically just the distributor.

Bob Iger made it clear that when he buys a company, he's also buying the management because he knows they're essential to the continued success of that company.

The decision in regards to the EU was purely an internal one and Disney had no part in it.

They wanted to kill Luke, but Lucas wouldn't let them.

Which is exactly why it would be total BS to just throw out the EU now. The big three are still alive in the books. Why else would Lucas be saving them if not to give at least one of them a dramatic death in the ST?

Because the children in the ST are going to be completely different from the children depicted in the EU. There will be no Jaina, Jacen or Anakin. Some of the new characters might be similar but they are not the same characters and there's no way they can retcon something that huge.

Yeeesh. Some of these guys are bananas.

I don't mean to be dense (it just comes naturally), but I cannot make sense of the blogosphere\nerdom implosion over this. It's a business decision by Disney.

I feel the need to point this out again. That misunderstanding really urks me for some reason.

Episode VII Cast List Announced
Time

I AM EXCITE.

I can't believe they didn't save this for May the Fourth. This announcement is HUGE but now I feel like if they don't do something on May 4th, I'll be disappointed.

Anyway, this awesome. Looks like all of the casting rumors were true for the younger cast. I always knew from the beginning the big three were going to be in it but I'm absolutely delighted that Kenny Baker is involved as well!

It's like I've said. Whatever is coming in VII can't be retconned. Most of the post-ROTJ is likely going to be jettisoned but I imagine they'll slowly start clarifying how much of the old material still stands.

At that recent Del Rey panel the authors there viewed the announcement as a non-event and it hasn't changed the way they write at all.

We just have to wait and see how it all shakes out.
