ROTS in the IMDb top 250!

I think ROTS has two things going for it, and this isn't a defense of the movie. TPM & AOTC are so bad, ROTS looks like gold next to those two movies. Even when the reviews came out last May, everyone heralded it as the best of the PT, Lucas finally got it right, so it got pumped up so much cause it is so much better than the first two PT movies.

Again, even though I don't like beating a dead horse, I want to state that, in my personal estimation, The Phantom Menace was the best "film" out of the prequel trilogy. (It had a cohesive story, decent pacing, non-revolting acting, etc.) RotS can only be considered best film of the PT if you bring in the subjective viewpoint and expectations of a traditional Star Wars fan and TPM can only be considered the worst of the PT in those same terms. When further analyzing the basic movie merits of the PT, RotS was second best film and AotC was the worst of the prequel trilogy in my mind.

However, none of the prequel-trilogy movies deserve to be within the best 1,000 movies of all time as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, I believe I admitted it was in my original post. Don't see how it's any more "immature" than the other justifiably angry posts by other members cussing him out and describing with detail the sexual acts that Rick must perform on George to keep his job. So thank you for singling me out, Mike.

Heh, I believe you made a rather accurate implication with the McCockum name.

ROTS: Baby Scoops?

Yegh. But, if you only made the devices, why would you be required to learn how to use one? Or was the creation of instructional videos part of your job?

Poll: Who is more annoying, Lucas or McCallum?

McCallum just isn't very bright. George Lucas on the other hand should actually know better.

He may do stupid things and be stubborn, but Lucas is one the whole quite intelligent. He's just stubborn.

From my point of view, McCallum is a little pathetic worm who shouldn't even have the job he was given. He's not worth any attention or grief. In fact, any of his bad qualities only speak to the great mistakes and irrationality of Lucas, who is the one who hired McCallum in the first place. 'Nuff said.

True, but that would be a really, really stupid assumption on his part.

If the theatrical releases were given a high quality, digital master to DVD, with mutliple audio tracks available, and filled with other historical information and special features, it would make a lot of money. With this kind of OT release, most casual Star Wars fans probably couldn't give a shit (because of the sub-par treatment), much less think they should buy the same 2004 DVDs a second time just to get it.

Photosyth - The 'Star Wars' possibilities

It certainly looks like a very impressive way to view photographs at least. The internet linking concept is also pretty sweet. However, I don't believe it would be a great tool for simulating two-dimensionally pictured environments in three dimensions. For that to be truly successful you'd probaby need a medium that records three dimensional data in the first place.

"It's funny when people obsess over things like that - it' unbelievable. The person they adore and worship, who made the original film in the first place, says "This is the way it was meant to be..." And then they can't cope with it. The fans are strange, but in a delightfully damaged way."

Hah, what an ass!

If Star Wars flopped....

Perhaps it was Lucas' desire to build his own studio and be independant that caused him to start cheapening the series around Jedi (which I still believe was very good despite being very straightforward), but that excuse doesn't transate to the PT where his dreams have already been achieved. Plus, he was still making a lot of money going the more artistic route (ESB), just not as much. I believe he's just greedy and always wants the most money in exchange for the least effort.

What? You mean the great and infallible Lucasfilm cannot generate interest for their individually packaged (!!!) release of the 2004 DVDs?! I thought that was supposed to be the main attraction here. Weren't you demanding individual packages like the good, little, Lucasfilm-crony you are? Haven't you pre-ordered this limited opportunity, yet?

I'm skipping this release because I don't want some crappy, bonus-feature edition of the original trilogy.

Hmm, I looked up a page on the batman serials . . . Wow, Robin had bad hair in the 1943 one.

On topic, I think that some film makers do successfully use crapness to comment on certain issues sometimes. My first example would probably be Verhoeven's 'Starship Troopers', which, I would say, uses crapness to attempt to alienate us from the human characters and make us more sympathetic to the bugs.

Hmm, from what I remember of that film I doubt he succeeded with that goal. Kind of sad. I would have loved the bugs if they had been given more character. I enjoy entertainment that can make me identify well with an alien being.

The guy hitting the propellor is definitely dumb, hairy_hen, but equally hilarious.

Not according to George Lucas.

I've not seen any of the old serials as far as I know. I was just arguing against Lucas' position. In fact, that Batman serial sounds rather cool, Scruffy.

Alright, I'll definitely give it a whirl sometime.
