Help: looking for... 'Clerks II - The Budget Cut'
Time

yeah, i have this edit.  It has a ton of problems, and I cant watch it because of them.  The video is greenish, and a really bad cheap "film effect" was applied to the movie.  While it was a good idea, I wouldnt waste your time trying to get this DVD.  A new edit on this concept would be cool.  I have been thinking about doing it, but it would be a long time until I ever have time to get to it.

Font help needed
Time

haha, its funny how these fonts can be so recognizeable for one film series, yet go unnoticed for another.  These look like just about the same font.

Someone just pointed out to me the other day that the "Terminator"  font was also used in SPACE CAMP during the credits.

lol.  ozzy + gene simmons + 1986 movie = awesome

I cant stand when I buy a cd (metallicas new album) and it sounds distorted. Louder is not better.

I haven't really heard that album yet, but just about every review I ever hear about complains about the sound quality, which is a shame. Maybe some talented editor will take a stab at it. ;) Think it could be done, based on what you hear? (if it's simply too loud and gets distorted/farty, maybe nothing can be done about it) I wouldn't be surprised if they release a remastered/fixed version someday.

not to get too off topic here, but that Metallica album had a different (read: much better) mastering for the video game "Guitar Hero" (I think it was that game).  Anyway, there were fan-rips of this floating around.  And Metallica (read: Lars) claimed that it was bullshit, and they wouldn't release another version of the album

To veer back on topic... I am really looking forward to listening to this set.  Sounds amazing.

Nice.  thanks for the comparisons Puggo.  I for one prefer the straight version a little better.  Really I don't see the benefit of a couple extra pixels in some areas (and also it shows some edge artifacts), and the straight crop seems more natural and less distracting.  Its not an extreme curve though, so whatever you choose will be fine in the end I think.

I'm thinking that we should see Sidious's "sith eyes" there in the darkness.

Eh, no - the whole point is of those edits to keep Sidious's identity (and face ) a secret until the third and last film of the trilogy (The Black Knight Rises).

I don't think he was referring to a feature that would identify or allude to it being Palpatine, but rather just wanting to see some evil looking eyes (akin to some sith) peering through.  Either way, I dont think it makes a difference, though from your test shots, the last was the most realistic/believable, and this had no eyes at all.  So I say leave them out.

If you do end up creating a mask externally, I don't think you would have too many problems with a jagged or stairstepped edge.  How would you render from Vegas?  You could save it as a lossless AVI, or frameserve directly to something like CCE for a good DVD render (I usually do not render to DVD straight from Vegas).  Either way, I think that the result would be fine.

I would probably use avisynth/virtualdub to do the resize, then - and this presupposes that I am using Vegas to do the curved border instead of avisynth - I would take the resized .avi file and open it in Vegas to add the curved additional border.  I'd render that as an avi, and use TMPGEnc to encode the final result for DVD.

sounds good.  I cannot imagine that this would produce any sort of stair-stepping or pixelation, if you are encoding to a lossless AVI from Vegas.  and the translation to DVD through TMPGEnc should be fine too.

It might be interesting to see some samples eventually with the different "fixes" you proposed.  A picture is worth a thousand words.

...oh, and if I hadn't said it before.  This project totally rocks!!!! Keep up the great work Puggo :)

So it may require building a mask externally.  As ThrowgnCpr said, that's actually not particularly hard either.  The hardest part may just be playing with it and verifying that it is good quality after encoding, that it doesn't get all jaggy.
