Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)
Time

lol, i dont know if I would call it unduly complicated. it would take only a couple minutes to set up, literally.  But, yes, there may be a feather option.  I just havent used it.

The mask I created before was not a simple letterbox.  I had to vary the amount of transparency in certain sections (thus, a simple feather tool in Vegas wouldn't have sufficed).  I would be surprised though, if Vegas didnt have this ability built in, or a plugin available

Does Vegas allow you to create a gradiented (graded? gradaded...?) mask?

I think a slightly 'windowboxed' effect, with a soft vignetted edge around all four sides could be very effective method in masking those distortions, with the extra benefit of evoking that lovely 'projected' look.

I don't know Vegas very well at all, but we do have it running on some edit suites where I work, so I could have a poke around the masking options and get an idea of what's possible...

Yes, you could add a feathered mask in Vegas (or really any editor for that matter).  It would simply involve making a .PNG the appropriate size and adding it as a layer over the video in Vegas.  I have done this myself for something different.

Info Wanted: for a MST3K flash series?
Time

Silly me, this slipped by me, and I never knew about it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Science_Theater_3000_(Flash_series)

Does anyone know if these episodes are still available anywhere, or did anyone happen to save them?  If they haven’t been released, this could be a fun flash2DVD project like my Star Wars - A Flash of Spoofs.

(Obviously someone with a little more CC skills could desaturate Boba's shirt more, while leaving the skin tones and Jedi robes colors intact, but that's beyond my capacity)

This was always my problem.  I had to try and find a middle ground, or lose a lot of the flesh tones (which happened a lot, actually).

If there was a way to only desaturate certain areas without it affecting the whole thing, then that would be perfect.

well, you can desaturate only certain areas - with masking, although if movement in the shot is really fast and jumpy, sometimes frame by frame is a better way to go. Though if motion isnt too too bad, masking can really be a nice help.

i like the soundtrack it has its place with rest of my star wars music

the soundtrack for this was great!! It gets as much play as some of my Williams pieces.  I really loved this whole project.  Shadows was one of the coolest things to come out of the star wars universe.  I look forward to seeing any projects about it :)

I have to say that I love the color tests, vaderios.  It looks so much better without the ridiculoulsly saturated magentas and oranges. To me, its now a city, and not a giant outdoor rave.  kudos.

I think I will disagree with those who say the skin tones are NOW the same color as the background.  In the original, they are ALSO the same color as the background.  Only difference is, its a saturated orange to start, and now a desauturated brown.  Which I find more pleasing.  I will agree that it is a bit dark.  Some lightening and contrast would help that a bit.

Thanks for posting the images.  great stuff.

STAR WARS Movies Animated

I think rewriting the prequels entirely as animated "fanfilms" would be a fantastic idea.

I also think it might be interesting to do an animated version of the "Heir to the Empire" books as a sequel trilogy, but I'd be much more interested in "new" prequels.

I think that Zahn trilogy would be an awesome story to tell.  Those books are just great.  I got so excited in that animated trailer when I saw Grand Admiral Thrawn...
