nice!! thanks sluggo :)
nice!! thanks sluggo :)
thanks mum, I'll take a look into those options. :)
Moth3r said:I personally wouldn't use AutoGK for this. VirtualDubMod is probably the easiest to get to grips with. You'll need a lossless codec (e.g. Lagarith) as well.
Load the VOB into VirtualDubMod, go to Video->Compression, select Lagarith, and configure it to use YV12 colorspace. Select Audio->none (as you will be loading your demuxed/decoded audio separately). Then save as AVI. Do not change any other options; the output AVI will be exactly the same quality as the original DVD.
Moth3r, I'm working on a short edit, and I wanted to give the lossless route a go, since I've purchased a new hard drive. I am having some issues though with the AVI. My VOB is NTSC 16x9 anamorphic, with a framerate of 23.97. When I save the AVI using the methods you have suggested above, it gives the video a framerate of 30fps. Obviously, its a little out of whack. Is there anyway to manually set the framerate on this. I tried some other lossless codecs with the same result (btw, Lagarith does a nice job at keeping the file size a bit smaller).
Thanks :)
spot on Hade. The Battle of Hoth should really set the stage for the movie in my opinion. The Rebels really need to get broken down here. Making them more successful in this scene seems contradictory to the tone.
Suggesting somehow that all the transports didnt get away would be agood idea. Not sure how you could work that in.
I couldnt get the youtube clip to work, but the stills look awesome. beautifully done. I may suggest trying to upload video clips to Vimeo. Its a nice site, and you can watch them in HD.
looks awesome. keep up the good work :)
is this on the preview window? or in a final render? what are the specs on your PC. it might be too slow to properly display the real time preview
what do you mean by merge tracks? you can have multiple items on a layer, or multiple layers for the same speaker if thats what you mean.
I'm not sure if there is a limit to the number of audio layers in Vegas. Its essentially unlimited.
You can set the pan/speaker of an audio layer. If you are working in 2.0 Surround, there is a pan slider on the Audio Layer name. If you are working in 5.1, you can set which speaker, and how much it is isolated on that speaker.
mrbenja0618 said:Wow. I have no idea of how you convert your audio to 6 wav tracks....Can someone explain this to me in simple steps? I mean, how do you even seperate them?
get besweet (make sure to get the GUI too). Its freeware. You can load your 5.1 ac3 file and decode it to 6 wav files.
you want quality at 100? i believe auto width should be fine, and remember that audio doesnt really matter since you are using the ac3 file from the DVD. so choose whatever you want here.
yes, virutaldubmod is free. google it or go to videohelp.com or doom9. Yes, Moth3r is right, a lossless codec is quite nice, just keep in mind you will need A LOT more hard drive space for that.
yes it will rip as a vob. and what do you mean rip as a HDD. How do you rip a movie as a hard drive? if you want a mpg use vob2mpg. otherwise you can juse use the vob files for autogk (to get it to an avi)
yes if you want deleted scenes, do full
yep, autogk is fine. less options, but its much much more user friendly. And yes the BeSweet program does do something, lol. Correct its a command prompt, you can use it without the GUI, but I wouldnt suggest it, ever. The GUI makes it pretty easy.
wow thats quite a list. very cool. keep us posted
As I mentioned before, I'll suggest the method I prefer.
- DVDFab HD Deccryptor to get disc to HDD
- Gordian Knot to convert to high quality AVI (Vegas handles AVIs better)
- you can use PGCDemux to get your ac3 from the DVD folder on your HDD
- besweet to convert 5.1 ac3 to 6 wav files
Frameserving sends the video frame by frame to your editor or encoder. Check out doom9 or videohelp.com for more information.
Vegas comes with DVD Architect. Its very nice, and you can do just about anything you want with it with regards to DVD design.
some cool ideas here. I would love to see something come of all of this. keep at it!!
I am using the pro version of Vegas 7. I love it, the only gripe is its incompatibility with some file types (but this is overcome with frameserving, which I do). I think Vegas 8 has the same basic fault, but I hear nice things about it. I've not tried the entry level Vegas versions
You can select a portion to render out if you want sample clips. There is an option for that on your time bar in Vegas. If you dont render out the final project as one movie you will likely get a pause between scenes. This may vary on different DVD players.
Think of it this way, when you watch a movie on DVD, is it one file, or is each scene a separate video?? Its almost always one movie and one file. You can insert chapter markers in your DVD authoring program if you want to (but in the end its still 1 video)
you will have to get the ac3 on your computer. you can do this either before or after you rip the DVD. To get the ac3 from the VIDEO_TS folder, use PGCdemux as Moth3r suggested.
after that its besweet time. you choose ac3 to six wavs. and hit ac3 to wav (after setting the input and output). this will give you 6 wav files that you can import into Vegas. You will have to assign them to the appropriate channels there.
Correct, you really dont need audio on yor video file since you have the 6 wav files.
For output, I would suggest frameserving to a high quality encoder like CCE or TMPGEnc. All of the frameserving directions are in the link I provided above.
I would suggest exporting the video as 1 file. NOT scene by scene.
yes you will sustain the 5.1 audio from decryptor. I believe you can go directly to an mpg from it also, but I'm not sure because i usually skip that step. If not look into vob2mpg.
you can choose to keep the 5.1 audio in gordianknot. you can also just use the original ac3 file to get your 6 wav files (see below)
an ac3 file is the elementary audio file from the DVD. Unless you convert it specifically, it will be in 5.1
besweet is a free audio conversion utility. It can convert ac3 to wav and vice versa. It can also separate your 5.1 ac3 into 6 separate wav files (which you will need for 5.1 editing).
frameserving can be a rather tricky process. I made a tutorial for Vegas here (you have to register to the forum).
For those interested there is a DVD version on fanedit.org that a member capped and authored. i think its available via RS and torrent
wow, thats pretty cool!! it would make for a great plug-in to a video editor.
Also, check out the freesound project for various sound effects. There are a lot of generated effects that might fit what you are looking for, though may not specifically be called "speeder"
