STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

I made a mock up of it (yes, ik this is battle of Yavin but this had the greatest concentration of X-wings) and I changed to tint so that they look less CG it was so shiny in a matt world, just stood out in a bad way. As they are always referred to as red squadron I figure they should all have some red on them, maybe the patterns on the wings could always be red. I assume that the original idea was that they would have as many bands as corresponds to the pilots call sign, red Leader, two, three (Luke’s had five). That would also explain how they reconsidered each other’s ships and who to hail.

Saying this I just noticed that Luke’s X-wing isn’t his, they used red two’s fighter but Luke’s helmet and R2. SE = sigh…

Adywan, when you get to editing the battle over Endor (and the trench run in ANH-HD) could you change the colours of some on the X-wings as it has literally always bothered me how they all have the same coloured panels even when its meant to be random (maybe Y-wings, B-wings and A-wings but they aren’t as noticable). They also all have R2 when its not a cockpit view so if you can make some of them green or red, or even R5s that could be cool. Just a suggestion.

Remember how the Legends EU was supposed to be “what’s happening just the right of camera”? Just imagine that all the things you want to happen during the movies are happening just to the side there. 😉

Haha, like Tag and Bink. They should be added to special features. Just have Ady and someone else cameo, then play out a couple of scenes form the comic. That would make an awesome gag real.

I’m down for a Rogue One-esque cameo during the Battle of Endor and I actually wouldn’t mind Ady hiring an extra dressed up as Hera for the Home One briefing. Now if only Dodonna and Riekkan could have been present in some capacity. Lucas really dropped the ball there.

Nah, its not needed. Just remember that this little speck is the ghost.

If any references are made I’d rather them be subtle, back-background one. We don’t want to end up with the special editions or Rogue One again.

Oh and also HelloGreedo brought up an excellent point about the Han Rescue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhvDfkQK2gQ
Any ideas on how that can be “solved”/made less flimsy?

So what if instead it were made so Anakin died on the shuttle after it had already escaped the Death Star? Then we transition back to Han and Leia on Endor and any celebration there that might happen, then have the ending Adywan described (Luke burning his father’s body alone as the Jedi ghosts look on).

That actually sounds pretty awesome, I’d love to see that in the edit. The only hitch is how difficult it might be for Adywan to pull off, he could probably do it but it would take even more time and effort.

Well thank you, DominicCobb for your ‘valuable insight’ into the life of a belligerent sycophant. I’m sure Adywan feels so grateful to have such ‘Cobb’ (<— we all know what should be there) protecting his forum from off topic posters such as myself.
I am not someone to turn away from criticism. I am sure that there is a perfectly good reason why my opinion and attempt at constructive criticism to a topic of discussion - re-cutting the climactic battle of ROTJ, to more resemble the pacing of TLJ’s one - was so appalling to you, even when so many other had joined in. I am sure if I asked you would kindly and graciously, offer up to me some exquisite examples, of valuable and insightful comments, of you own.
But I urge you not to bother, for I am resourceful and found some of you finest comments (which I am sure Adywan found most helpful) and shall in future use these as a template for my own:
“I would like to declare that I have never read a James Patterson novel.”
“Um, no.”
“No. Just… no.”
"Hahahahahahaha"
So if we are all in agreement, I’ll leave you with: Um, no. Just… James Patterson novels. Hahahaha

RE: Editing / jumps between the three sequences of ROTJ’s climax.

I recently listened to a Rian Johnson podcast where he spoke about editing TLJ

Why would you use TLJ as a source for editing tips? I don’t want this to turn into a slag off session of TLJ but apart of some question plot decisions (Leia flying), the editing department was what really let the movie down.
Now I liked the climactic battle between Ray, Kylo and the guards but I hated that every time I got invested in it, it cut away. If you are going to cut from a tense moment, it’s best to cut to another tense moment and keep going back and forth regularly to give a sense of urgency. Other wise you should leave it to play out in full, but that is less effective if the situation is meant to be a climax, as it makes it makes it appear to happen sequentially rather than concurrently.

OK, so first off while i agree a build up to the puppet master would be cool, as already stated, its to late. ESB has revealed The Emperor and so leaving the main villain till the last 20 minuets (don’t quote me on that) would be pointless,
Second the early scenes of The Emperor, specifically his arrival on the DS2, are very important in setting up the differences between Vader and The Emperor. When Vader arrives he is greeted by a force of about 30-40 troops however, when The Emperor arrives they are in a massive hanger with hundreds of troops. These really serve to show how vain and politically powerful The Emperor appears, as with any tyrant his power comes mostly from his followers (although his is shockingly good when it comes to the force) and it sets up his death to come so easily once he is betrayed by his most loyal subject.

Oh and sorry for the “Joke” i just couldn’t resist.

[CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM]

OK lighting is important in visual story telling and the grey lighting in the POA+ films is representing the dark nature of those films. This just isn’t’ the case in the first to films which are meant to be more innocent and adventurous. If anything the later films should be altered slightly as the grey filter is heavy an over used, but still needed. You shouldn’t be adding that to the first two films though, that just shows your (please don’t take this a an insult) naivety, when it comes to the uses of visual effects and atmosphere.

Oh and the removal of all subplot from the movie, also a big no no when it comes to making anything … good. The later films suffered for it (though american audiences still lapped up enough of the fight sequences to make the millions) which can be seen in the increasing dependence on CGI where more time consuming (and there for more expensive) practical effects would have been more suitable. I am not saying CGI is bad, its good when used properly, but it wasn’t in later films. Therefore it is a bit foolish to model your remaster to fit with the shallow (in terms of subplot) moves 3-8.

You really show you lack of understanding when you removed and reduced the muggle section of the story. The entire success of Harry Potter as a franchise can be traced back to J K Rowling’s decision to start with the mundane and build to the magic before ending with drama and tragedy (both the tragedy come mostly in later films). Of course you have decided to remove the magical opening which is good! However, removing is perhaps not the best of ideas as it does serve a crucial part is that ever elusive (to you) over arching subplot. Simply put Hagrid brings harry to No. 4 and Hagrid takes him away.

Never the less I could go on about every single narrow minded point you’ve made about the changes you are making, but your still going to make them. All I can really say is if you are thinking of making a career of film making as I feel that someone with the passion and dedication to make an edit such as this (for all its floors) might, get your head out of the colour by numbers how to make a action flick book, like they have at ‘Hollywood’ ATM. Now good luck I DO I am hope you are pleased with you achivement, but I must leave you with these few words “… Much more, but my hands are tiering”.

P.S. RESCORE!??!?!?! Remove the John Williams score!??!?!?! “Are You Mad?!?!?”

Adywan, great to hear your feeling better, I think you should go with your gut on the ROTJ ending over anything else. I’m not saying peoples opinions don’t matter, but this is you vision and I am more exited to see that come to fruition, than see any of the suggestions feature, even mine - which of-course are unbelievably fantastic (jk there’re pointless and add little value to the plot). Its your floor man, don’t let anyone upstage you!

Oh really, I didn’t know that. Wow that’s weird. I need to watch ROTJ again.

What about the thing that Luke cuts in half when he cuts Vader’s hand off? It’s already broken before Luke cuts it, but only for a few frames.

Hey I’m just suggesting them because they’re there and people have complained about them. I never really noticed that the aliens didn’t blink in the Cantina nor did I notice them start to in the Revisited edition, but that was still added. These are just suggestions that’s all.

I read the list again to try and make sure I was treading new ground, and I noticed that you were going to add back in, the old female pilots. While in principle I agree with the idea, have you seen the actual footage? Their acting is just bad. They kept looking at camera, they would say the lines, but not mean them and there was no body language. Now before you said “Existing female pilot to be re-dubbed with a female voice” you also said “Add female pilots” which I’m assuming means there will be new actresses doing the whole thing as well? If so, I would stick to just that, because I’m not sure that just dubbing the old ones will work. And if you aren’t going to re-shoot them then… IDK are bad ones better than no ones??

Anyway if its fixing movie mistakes you want then here’s a few that have been going around for a while:
A) Vader cuts through a railing that is already cut in the final battle.
B) DV’s shuttle arrives, a DS technician’s hand is gloved but when it cuts between shots and he presses a button it isn’t.
C) Jaba’s Drink switch hands when he drags Leia over on the sail barge.
D) Billy D William’s stunt double is wearing black gloves when he is dangling from ropes in during the sarlac scene.
E) They flip the Han/Lando scene on Home One so that Landos badge and strap switch sides.
F) When Leia offers Wicket food it switches hands.
G) One of the Ewoks eyes is missing and you can see the actor when they first meet C3PO
H) A post moves when Luke is talking to Vader on Endor.
All of these are from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKe-9TpM7IM
IDK why I listed them instead of just linking it but I’ve done it now.
The only other thing I can think of is the X-rays of DV when he is electrocuted… Its just a bit weird but IDK also endearing maybe make his limbs seem robotic instead of just bone or remove or whatever.

I’ve never had a problem with lowering the shield to get onto the moon

OK, so I was exaggerating when I said I always had a problem with it. The scene does work as is, but I still think that my other reasons stand. It does seem like a massive inconvenience to lower the whole shield. It would also create an feeling of isolation as once the strike team lands, they are totally cut off form any outside help. I’m not certain but I believe the coms did’t work through the shield either (in RO) and I don’t think that anyone from the strike team (in ROTJ) contacted the rebel fleet during the whole battle. With hindsight (If I’m right) that seems naive as it communication is key in battle especially if the plan as not worked. But this would make sense if they actually couldn’t communicate.
But hey that my last word on this subject.

OK, well I feel dumb now. Lets start again.
I was looking at your list of changes and noticed you were thinking of having the rebels arrive in a Rogue One esque shuttle. I also saw that your preferred viewing set did included Rogue One (which I assume means you liked it) which is why I would like to suggest including a shield gate above Endor. My reasons for this are:
One, that It always seemed odd that the rebels needed clearance codes to lower the Death Star Shield so they could land on the planet.
Two, it seems to make far more sense that there was also a planetary shield (similar to the one above Scarif) which protected the shield base form orbital bombardment.
Three, there have been people that say that the detonation of the Death Star II should have caused massive debris and an extinction level event on Endor. which the presence of a shield which isn’t destroyed during the battle, would prevent.

I feel that this would tie in well with Rogue One and further cement it as part of the universe. I looked at the sense and I don’t think there would be an issue with any of the dialog, it also might make good explanation as to why the proton bombs dropped by the Y-wings resembled fireworks rather than destroying the ewok village (if of course that isn’t a part that you are cutting).

The only other suggestion is for your HD version of A New Hope: Revisited and that to replace the planet you had the Death Star hovering over, with Scarif. Other than that its all waiting hoping from me, and may the force be with you, always.

Does anyone know where to post suggestions? I know that is is Adywans edit and I don’t seek to meld someone’s personal artistic vision to fit to my own. I know that previously he has taken some suggestions and seen them through to fit into the final rendition, or at least found some inspiration of from them.
