New 4K releases - but are they any good?

I clearly don’t remember the theatrical look (oh wait I never saw it in theaters) but when the article says “less green” shouldn’t it say “no green?” I see no green in those pictures at all. Of course you can’t trust pictures like that, it might just be my monitor’s fault. Regardless I think color issues are way overblown, people are always trying to “fix” stuff here that doesn’t need fixing, and basically meh.

There’s still green in the new Matrix images I’ve seen.

I agree with you that sometimes, especially here, color issues can be overstated. And there have been a lot of projects here that seem to want to do away with the idea of grading itself, wanting everything to look as it might in real life. But the Matrix Bluray grading was really really over the top green. From what I’ve seen, the new images look like a nice improvement.

In this case, it’s possible that my baseline is “incorrect” being that as I said I never saw the movie in theaters. So possibly for me, it’s down to personal preference, what I’m used to basically.

With that said I barely see any green in the images shown in that review.

Many BD releases have gotten good video/audio reviews, like Jurassic Park, 007 films, Back to the Future etc. but on this forum people have had a different opinion as they have older releases and possibly even original audio tracks or film reels to make their point.

I’m just going to be completely honest with you, and some people here may get pissed off at me, but most people on here just generally aren’t the experts that they think they are, and that’s putting it extremely politely.

Damn straight.

The Last Jedi appreciation thread

We don’t need a TLJ appreciation thread - we just have a TLJ appreciation thread.

We don’t need several new new thread threads or 5th, 6th, 13th day of Christmas threads or whatever it was late last year - though we had them.

Those are joke threads (mainly), the creation of which was done for entertainment purposes. I didn’t make a third new thread thread because we needed it or because it was even useful, I made it because someone else made a comment in an earlier one that naturally led to the creation of that one, with an increasingly silly thread title. And the other threads are now the ones that are no longer useful and that one is the current one.

I’m not still arguing against that thread. Jay has made his position clear. I’m just pointing out that this is clearly not the same situation as that one.

It seems exceedingly weird to need a thread where a movie you like is safe from criticism. It’s a discussion forum for god’s sake. But if you want to allow a thread where no dissent is allowed, it’s your forum.

What a strange time we live in where I’m actually in agreement with Frink for once…

I hope it’s clear that I feel this way about any subject. It’s weird to have a thread where you are not allowed to criticize the topic.

I’m on record as having really enjoyed TLJ so it has nothing to do with that at all.

"I just want to watch the world burn."

I have been thinking that this is actually a big problem in politics today. People are so cynical that it’s taken for granted that government is broken and civic-mindedness is dead. Journalism is all but extinct, and truth is whatever is shouted the loudest by those in power. With this mindset, the best thing to do is look out for number one, since it’s a sucker’s game to adhere to any values or rules at all.

I think it would be really great if we started valuing things like truth, justice, and the American Way again, whatever those things mean to each individual. At least then when things go wrong we can at least say that we tried our best instead of settling for our worst.

Fully agree.

Ranking the Star Wars films

It’s a SW flick, you don’t need to be encouraged to watch it; besides you like the previous Disney Wars so I don’t think you’ll find anything to bother you with Solo if you weren’t bothered by the previous Meta Wars. Pretty sure you’ll love it and rank it above RotJ (a running gag since 2015…).

Encouraged = I know I’ll like it now instead of thinking I’ll probably like it.

And it’s not a running gag, my opinion is that RotJ is mediocre and earned its spot in my rankings exactly where it is. I could make my own comment about a running gag right now but it would be nice if this thread could stay open this time.

Have a nice day.
