STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

And let's not even talk about Vader NOT knowing Leia was his daughter when he was interrogating her with a MIND PROBE! Sure, she could have hidden her knowledge of the Death Star tape whereabouts, but everything else would have been an open book, especially with his super sith force powers.

Yeah, but Leia does not know Vader is her father, so I assume Vader can't feel that she's his daughter. Even on the Death Star trench he just sens that the Force is strong with Luke, but that's all.

I suppose that, after the battle of Yavin, the name of Luke Skywalker became quite famous in the galaxie for being one of the leaders of the rebellion. So that's why the Emperor and Vader knows his name in ESB.

Thanks for the support! I finaly find why there was a shaking picture problem using some filter on my premiere pro 2 : it's because I worked with the low quality preview render to make my video flow faster. Now I use the better quality preview and all the problems are magicaly gone (so it was just a preview problem). The "new camera movements" give a new dynamic to a great number of shots. I'm very pleased with the result.

However, I would not add any character names in the dialogue cards unless you plan to do it with every single card.

Well, in fact I was thinking more of lines like:

-"What's the situation, Captain?"

-"All communications are cut, Madam."

rather than:

Amidala -"What's the situation?"

Panaka-"All communication are cut".

So it's not really always adding the "names" of the characters before the lines (this I don't want, for various reasons), but giving hints about who is talking inside the sentences. There are already lots of lines like this in my edit, I just want to add a few more at some point. But just a few, really.

But maybe some subtle new editing will do enough.

I'm planning to make few editing changes in the new version.

One of them is about the meeting between Maul/Obi/Qui Gon.

Now it goes like this: first Maul shows his first blade, like a normal lightsaber. Then cut to Obi and Qui Gon. THEN cut to Darth Maul showing the second blade. I think that "mine is bigger than yours" joke always works. What do you think? Maybe some editors already did that?

Someone told me to bring back the second shot of Vader escaping the Death Star on ANH (the one where he is alone in space) to the very end of the episode, after the medals ceremony. I think it's a good idea.

I'll also edit minor shots of speaking characters for a clearer understanding about who talk, and to whom. I will also add more characters names inside the dialogue. I know sometimes it sounds too formal, but some reviewers express difficulties to understand who speaks from time to time.

Just a thought about the moving mask thing: in ROTJ when the Ewoks fight inside the biped walker, the imperial soldier also have an obvious moving plastic helmett.

"???WTF??? I don't get what you are saying!"

Lol, sorry, I'm french, sometimes it's hard to make myself clear. I just wanted to say that, in ROTJ, the imperial soldier who is attacked by 2 Ewoks inside the biped walker (don't know how you call it in english) also have a helmet (and not "helmett", sorry again) that really looks like cheap plastic.

I take that to mean that he will crop it the way he wants. if he got a pre-existing 4:3, he couldn't really do anything with it if he plans to show different portions of the picture.

Exactely, the only problem if I crop one side of a picture would be when there is a camera movement that ends with something on the other side (cause I still did not find a way to animate the cropping, that would add a kind of new camera movement. That would be helpful sometimes, but I think I can do the edit without it anyway.)

Just a thought, aren't there already official Pan-&-Scan releases you could use as a base? I don't know, but merely a thought.

Aside from the fact that I could not crop what I want, I cuted the original 16:9 sources in 4or 5 parts before integrate them in the montage program (because my premiere pro 2 was really slow when I tried to work on just one full movie video as source.) So if I would use a Pan-Scan source I would need to cut the same exact parts in order to replace my 16:9 sources. And I would need to make new video alpha for my old filter etc... Well, I feel it will brings more problems than solutions.

The wish for a 4:3 treatment always comes first when I talk to someone about this version, so I thought about it and, even if it was not a priority to me, now I think that this version needs to be as different to the clean version as it can. And people that will download the 2 versions would not feel to have twice the same product.

EDIT: now I know how to animate my cropping! So I can add "new" camera movements! Of course it needs to remains subtle, and only when I don't have the choice.

Forget about my last posts...

I think I will try a new 4:3 version. I know, I change my mind everyday! I think it could work in 4:3, cause I find the way to choose what I want to show on screen:

Original 4:3 cropping

New 4:3 cropping

Notice that in full 4:3, there will be some bluring effect to the picture. But it looks old and that's what I want!

Now I have to deal with the dialogue cards issue...

Episode 2 "Dusty" version is done (I only need a screening to be sure of it). There's no big changing tint in this episode exept for Tatooine exteriors and another little part of the movie.

Work is almost finished on EP3, I hope. Big changing tint from a planete to another, maybe a bit "over the top" by the time of order 66, but for now I think it works.

Next I'll need to learn how to add a choice between two audio mix in a DVD menu.

maybe in the new live action series that takes place between 3 and 4 we'll finally see Vader as the man...

I heard the live action TV-series will mostly have no big name characters on screen. Just as guest from time to time I think. Although Boba Fett may be one of the only well known characters to really return.

Star Wars: One Death Star to Rule Them All (6 become 1) (* unfinished project *)
Time

Great ideas around here.

When I did my 4h40 long silent edit (2 parts) I wanted to stay as close as I could from the original story and I did not care much about the lenght of the scenes I cuted because I knew the music will blend them well together.

IMO the most difficult thing in a 3 hours "normal movie" will be to keep the scenes long enough so they will not seam too rushed. The main characters needs time to speak so a lot of second characters will have to shut their mouth! I think it has to be an Anakin/Vader movie, so you'll have to make heartbreaking things like turning Han Solo into a quite minor character (screentime-wise).

And another thing that should be kept in mind: the age of the actors... Ford did look older in Jedi than in ANH, and so the others. You can't put Solo helping Luke to destroy the Death Star at the end of the movie if you already used ROTJ footage of him earlier in the movie for exemple.

But I'm sure you already thought about all of this. Just few thoughts as I was reading this thread.

Here is a 3 minutes 30 secondes 23M Divx video sample of an EP2 edit I've made. R2 is still flying (but trimmed to the minimum), 3PO still looses his head (but all the awful CGI falling is gone). I tried to make that scene less cartoonish and shorter. But I kept all the informations the original has.

http://rapidshare.com/files/166639224/montage_episode_2.divx

Although in my silent edition I just replaced that scene by the Anakin/Padme/Dooku meeting bonus scene. That way you can also cut all the R2/3PO shots in the arena for they are still waiting in the ship.

I think I'm going to erase the rapidshare links from my first post. I don't want this site to have troubles like fanedit.org just has... The torrents link will last a few days and I'll close it, too. Then if some wants the clean black and white version they'll have to PM me to get RS links.

I hope Episode 1 dusty version will be finished tomorow. So the work on EP2 can begin!

How do you see the PT?
Time

The OT was a great "western in space" type of movies, with charismatic characters and good fun from time to time. The PT is more like watching an old historical movie, with nice costumes, great battles, cool story but (as often with the historical movies) pretty boring to watch from time to time, with one dimensional characters.

I think the well known passion of Lucas for history has killed his skill to simply tell a good story in an entertaining way... But I don't hate the PT. It's just like being forced by a school teacher to watch a movie: first you're happy because it's not as boring as the everyday lesson, but you fall asleep anyway. I feel that the dialogue (specialy in AOTC) increased the feeling of watching a dated movie. I even think that is what Lucas wanted.

I think we see the spinning starfield it in ANH and ESB because it is cockpit shots. We don't see it in the PT because there's no cockpit shots (as far as I remember) when the hyperspace jumps happends. Even in the OT, when the jump is filmed from outside the ships wee don't see the spinning starfield. So I don't feel it like a continuity problem.

In full "Lucas apologist mode":

There's, first of all, the "do you remember your mother", "yes", "but she dies in childbirth", "oh, well, i dunno lol" blunder.

She talks about her stepmother (hope it's the right english word...), who is her real mother, to her, at the moment she speaks.

Then of course there's the "he thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved", "what? and remain a slave? gee, uncle owen sure is a dick!" blunder which is also connected to the "how can he make judgements about him leaving tatooine? he never knew him until he came back!" problem.

First it's not Owen speaking but Obi-Wan ( the "point of view" man). Second, Maybe between episode 2 and 3, Owen had conversations with Anakin about how he thinks that he should stay on Tatooine, in the family.

Then there's the "wait, nothing at all happened to my throat or lungs, why do I need a breathing mask again?" problem.

Getting burned like this is not good for the lungs I think!

Then there's the "I was trained by yoda...well, actually, i was trained by liam neeson but whatevs lol"

Yoda personnaly follows young Jedi's trainning. Obi-Wan also learned from him.

and just the overall irreparable fail of the series. No central, identifiable sympathetic main cast and no nasty antagonist.

You got a point here! ;)

bet if they had been made in that order the fact that Luke and Leia are Darth Vader's children would have been downplayed considerably in RotS so it could have more of an impact in ESB.

Maybe even don't show at all the anakin/Vader transformation. Anakin dies in episode 3, then there is a new bad guy in episode 4, periode.

That way the secret is not only kept for Luke and Leia, but also for the audience.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

I did not read all the 262 pages of this thread but I just found a little thing in ANH (original or revisited) that bugs me (a bit).

I'm sure someone already mention this but when Luke (still in his trooper uniform) close the door behind him, after the first shooting on Death Star, that door just shake on the last frames like it was a falling piece of wood.

I wonder if Adywan ever noticed that? (it's no big deal anyway, It's pretty funny to watch when you know it!)

I've always had a mental block when it came to the Prequals coming before the Original Trilogy relating to time. It was two shiny, clean, and modern to actually believe it took place before the events of Luke, Han, and Leia.

In a way it makes sens that the world was clean and shiny before the wars. I think Lucas wanted to show us this world at its peak of splendor. Curves and colors of the prequels are replaced by grey tint and flat lines in the OT, once the Empire takes control.

I kinda wish the color was like those old clips you posted, of the ship landing and the viceroy and Sidious... I like it more brownish. The yellowish is ok, but I don't think I'd like it as the dominant coloring.

Mmmm, I think you're right Ripplin... I thought I was the same color but, not. This one is indeed more yellow. The other was too, but not that much. Well, I like this tint, but I think less yellow could be good to be the main color. And it will show more difference with the yellow/orange tint of the exterior scenes of Tatooine.

Unfortunatly I lost my old tint, but I'll try to recreate it. Just need less yellow I think.

About the text cards: I have done a test with the blue tinted scene with text cards tinted B&W/yellow and it don't feel right to me. Maybe a true B&W text will be good.
