The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

but I guess it is kind of ridicules that it took about 20 years to make the first one and like 3 years to make the 2nd bigger one

Mmm, maybe we could say that the first Death Star took three years to build also. It is just its "destroyer of world" ultimate weapon that is not fully operational yet at the begining of ANH. Maby the Death Star was a secret base for the Empire for a long time.

I am not a Lucas apologist here, I just try to (desperately) find a solution.

But like almost everyone I don't like much that almost "arian" race concept. What I'm thinking is: what about only the Sith are using the midichlorians to have their powers? They need them, while the Jedi use "true" Force.

I'll answer to myself on this one...! :

It just can't work because in this case the Emperor could not brings Luke to the dark side just by twisting his mind like he try to do in ROTJ. Next time I'll think twice before posting! Ah!

Interestingly, I've never minded midichlorians. For one thing, we already knew the Force could be inherited ("The Force is strong in my family") and for another, it served the story purpose (which I think is the reason the entire concept was created) of identifying lil' Anikin as megapowerful, possibly the chosen one. But making miticloriens the basis for cloning evil Jedi with force powers I think crosses the line away from the Mythical Space Opera elements of Star Wars into something else.

Kind of agree. I always thought that, once Midicholrians being included in TPM (like it or not), it should have been a major plot in the other 2 prequels. Lucas was toying with the idea of Palpatine being the creator of Anakin through Midichlorian (the opera scene is a hint of this sub plot). Instead, like many other ideas or characters of his prequels, it leads nowhere.

And Midichlorian are not an explanation of the Force, which is still a mystical thing.

But like almost everyone I don't like much that almost "arian" race concept. What I'm thinking is: what about only the Sith are using the midichlorians to have their powers? They need them, while the Jedi use "true" Force.

That's called "dramatic license".  We don't need the audio cue to tell us that Vader was told the ship is clear.  We see the ship clear, then we see Vader go to talk to Palp.  Why else would he be moving?

Or Vader just don't want the Emperor to wait. He goes right in the room placed next to his chamber. If the transmition is not clear yet, he'll just choke one or two imperial officers...

Never had any problem with that scene.

Here's my problem:
If you cloned Mozart, would the clone be a great musician?

Depends of your cloning method... ;) (I guess I really go SiFi now here!)

If it is like in AOTC, where the clone starts from babies to adult, you'll need to teach them the specific skills you want them to have. But if your cloning method can duplicate a person to another identical one (same age, same body, same brain), then maybe you could make Mozart number 2.

I'm taking an film history and criticism class at university this semester (just an intro class), but I'm thinking about either sending my professor a link to the torrent of this edit or just burning him a copy of the DVD if he's interested, since we've been discussing silent films for quite some time now in class. Would you mind at all? I'm trying to get more exposure for fan-edits in general, and I thought this would be a good example of how fan-edits can be a viable art-form in and of themselves.

That would be cool. :)

I can't remember if you used both songs, or just the more famous, first one.

Both. I jump from one to the other.

And, well I mispelled, it's not exactely a song, it's just music. I think Jedi Rocks can feel a bit out of place also because it is the first and only time we hear a voice in my edit part1. Until Part2 where we can hear Laptic Nek and the Ewoks SE celebration song (but even this song is much like a choral)

Don't know if this was already discuted, but I Just noticed a thing working on my OT silent edit:

In the scene with the Wampa, It looks like just the forearm of the beast fall on the snow, but in the SE edition scene that follows, the Wampa have his full arm cutted.

I think That is one of those continuity things that drives Adywan mad.

The only thing so far that I've found jarring was using "Jedi Rocks" in the AotC bar scene. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing that it was used, it's just that it's been so long since I've seen the SE of Return of the Jedi that I forgot it even existed, and so when it came on my initial reaction was "The hell is this?! BLEEGGGHHH!!" I've since recovered, however. :P

He he, yeah I know this song is not a fav among Star Wars fans. Well, I don't like it much myself, but I Thouht about it as a little joke inside the movie. I wanted a song like if a band was playing in the bar.

As I use the cantina song in EP4 and Lapti Nek in EP6, the only song left was Jedi Rocks, and it fits not bad at all at the end of the scene!

You managed to condense AotC down to about half-an-hour, and for that alone you deserve quite a bit of credit. ;)

Thanks, in fact I knew that EP3 had to be quite long, so I manage to make poor ep2 the shorter possible.

PS: in fact I also use Jedi Rocks in Ep6 at Jabba's palace, but not in the dance scene. And you'll probably not notice that it's Jedi Rock because it is the end of the track (that is not on the SE I believe) which is a bit better. You can listen a bit to this part in my ep2 when the Jedi get out of the bar.

PS2: thanks for helping on demonoid.

You guys need to remember that Star Wars is NOT SCI-FI. It's a fantasy/western/adventure story set in space. Cloning should NOT play a large part in the plot or your heading into sci-fi territory. Using cloning to amass an army steers clear of sci-fi because it doesn't really affect the plot that their clones. However, replacing important characters with clones seems like a no no to me because it's a very sci-fi concept. Futuristic space tech is just an element of setting in Star Wars, not of plot.

Well I kind of understand your point, I like my Star Wars western style too even if it IS sifi. But as we somehow needs to incorporate a clone story somewhere I thought about the "evil copies" plot cause it's more characters oriented than a huge clone army story. Plus you don't have to wonder if the OT stormtroopers are still clones or just human soldiers.

PS: Of course "more characters" oriented story does not mean no huge space battles!

If its the enemy I guess I can understand it, like a mystical powers arm race.

Maybe, we can find a plot AROUND cloning without ANY stormtroopers clones at all.

You know, the bad guy finds a way to clone people and he begin to clone some high members of the Republic to take control, step by step. The Jedi begin to suspect something. Everyone's getting paranoid. And that is the Clone War, a kind of cold war...

Hush!!! Still have to watch that episode! ;)

One thing that was what in heavy indiscussion by the time of 1998, during the hype for episode1 is that the Obi-Wan of the OT is actualy a clone of the real Obi-Wan that was killed during the clone wars. This story always made me laugh but maybe there is a thing that can be found behind this silliness, I don't know.

Let's say... Ben Kenobi is the first Jedi to be cloned because the Jedi are already not very numerous. His clone is called Obi-One (pronunced Wan... Let's say "Obi" means "Clone" in some ritual Jedi language I don't know.), then Ben dies and Obi1 survives. When on Tatooine he takes the name of his original model, Ben...

I can't believe I'm writting this! Ah!

A mix between the 2 technics seams a good choice. The hardest in 3D is to make realistic human characters and to animate them properly, that is why they go for the very design look for the 3D Clone Wars series.

I guess I could say: landscapes and interiors in 3D and photoshop matte painting, and characters in 2D (exept some creatures that can be made in 3D then transform with a 2D treatment).

TMBTM-In my Ep2, Palpatine does appear to be the right man to lead the republic (I'm not sure if his true agenda should be revealed in which movie, but leading toward Ep3) and Anakin doesn't exactly "choose" the dark side, but he does reject the Jedi and leaves the order (the twist is its an amiable separation).

Very good IMO. :)

What I'm saying is that I'd like to see, at some point, Anakin doing evil things, knowing it's evil, but doing it no matter what because the events leads him to think that it's the write thing to do. And the audience shares his feelings (like in a vengeance movie ala Kill Bill, I don't know). I'd almost want the audience to scream with joy when the Jedi are killed; then suddenly feel ashamed for that. And I think the killing of the Jedi kids could be useful here.

Like: "yeah, kill all those fucking Jedi Anakin!"....."Oh shit, he also kill the kids? I did not want it to go that far..." I'd want the audience to experience  the "angry, attractive and fun" side of the dark side, immediatly followed by its bitter taste.

and from that moment the story reveals the ugly side of the Empire. Anakin is too blind to see it though.

EDIT: sorry, it's getting harder and harder to follow the discussion and to make myself clear with my english. I'll try to make even shorter posts.
