Star Wars Saga: Silent Film Edition (Released)

A new test made with Triaxes stereoTracer...
As a pair of "stereo" pictures I simply put 2 consecutive frames of my Star Wars scene.
The result was this depth map (the grey bar at the center is simply the restriction of the unregistered version):

And still with StereoTrace I generated 5 frames and made an animated Gif out of them:
(the movement may takes few seconds to show, I don't know)

While there are some obvious very bad unwanted distortions, I think it's pretty amazing giving the poor amout of difference that the two original pictures has.

If someone were to take a video clip, produce a 3D effect for each frame (like you've done TMBTM), and then slap all the frames into a video editing program, would it create the illusion of a 3D video without the need for any 3D glasses?

Of course, to keep the same length, the final framerate would have to be double the starting framerate.

Does that make sense to anyone other than me?

I understand. Maybe it would be fun for a couple of seconds. But to an entire movie I don't know. Headache is not far! And I'm not sure of the result anyway.

Maybe a test would be fun. Maybe not doing a "second eye" picture for each frame BUT applying directely the effect on the frames, once right/once left eye etc...

thats really cool! I think I'd rather see it on high quality star wars though as opposed to the dusty silent version

Yeah, I agree.

But I'm FAR from able to do a 2D to 3D convertion of an entire movie.

I think I can do nice 3D frames, but I don't think a "one 2D picture to depth map" converter ever exits. The program I talked about generate Depth map out of 2 different 2D pictures (of course...) but I think it don't do that from a single 2D picture. It is said that it "generate depth map from a pair of 2D pictures" and it that it "create depth map from a single 2D picture", but it appears that "create" does not mean "generate" from the point of view of the creators of the program...: it only makes a greyscale version of the picture, which is of course not a depth map, at all...

I'll continue my search.

Episode 5 DUSTY version framing is on it's way.

Episode 4 DUSTY version is done (I just need to watch it to avoid some little mistake maybe).

I'll launch the framing of episode 5 tonight.

Speaking of 3D Star Wars I continue my search for a methode to (maybe) make one of my episode in 3D.

I think I could do it if I find a program that can automaticaly transform a normal 2D picture to a Depth map picture like this one I've quickly made on photoshop:

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/707/ep4old3177depth.jpg[/IMG]

perhaps this program can do it automaticaly. I did not try it for now (not free):http://www.3dmasterkit.com/index.php?id=59

and here is an animated gif of the result between the original and a distorded one (made on photoshop using the depth map):

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6664/vader3danim.gif[/IMG]

Maybe I should have painted Vader a little more white so he would be more close to the viewer. But you should see very well the 3D effet on the dead bodies at the bottom of the picture.

Of course making the depth map by hand means I can only do "layer 3D". I wish a software can do better result. I know some folks worked on a program using pixel recognation of the focus and the shapes to make depth maps out of 2D pictures, but I did not found a free program that do that sort of thing for now.

I also opened a thread at http://www.faneditforum.com/viewforum.php?f=20 to discuss this matter.

The red glow in the AT-AT interiors. Thanks for doing that mock-up. that has really helped put my point across that adding red lighting to the interiors will look fake. This is really something that doesn't need doing.

NooooOOOooooo! :( ;)

Just kidding, while I really like the idea and the mock-up, it would probably be a bit distracting inside the movie, indeed.

(But to be 100% logic, if you don't add that red light to the interior, it shoud be erased from the exterior of the AT-AT... but it would probably be too much work for such a detail anyway)

STAR WARS Movies Animated

My goal is to have the audience ROOT for the SITH, support Palpatine in doing what is necessary, AND THEN feel guilty when they realize what is happening. Ep3 SHOULD almost feel like a good ending (to the clone wars) until you realize that the Might Makes Right mentality brings an end to peace and justice AND the republic.

I can't agree more. The audience must feel "betrayed" by Palpatine.

But maybe this shoud happen at the end of EP2. I really would like to have a full episode left to actualy see the Empire at its top, hunting the Jedi to the last. And bring our good characters to the point where they loose all hopes.

Info: About this whole Indy 4 debate.

Remember the second in the old trilogy had some good moments too but ended up being overall crap.

I lOVE Temple of Doom. And here's why:

1- I care more about the fate of innocent childreens than what happened to the ark of the convenant.

2- I love to hate Willie Scott

3- Short Round, not too bad for a kid in big movie IMO.

4- Non stop action, what a treat.

5- The darkest AND the funniest of the 4. (We...are..going...to...diiiiie!!!)

6- I like the fact that the movie is focusing (mainly) on one location.

7 - I like the fact that this movie shows us Indy before the event of Raiders, when he is just a man who want fortune and glory (and discover along the way that fortune is not the ultimate goal). And so I don't like the River Phoenix opening in Crusade where Indy is already a museum freak).

8- Mola Ram, best Indy bad guy. I mean, okay, Bellocq is a better character for sure, he's smart and all; but to the point he's almost a good guy. Mola Ram is just one dimensional bad guy, and I think it fits that movie very well.

9- I don't fall asleep when I watch TOD these days. Unlike Crusade.

10- That music during the sacrifice is so evil. Man, good job mister Williams.

11- Best Harrison Ford performance of the 4.

So, yes, Raiders is the best movie on a cinematographical point of view, no doubt about that, but to me TOD is just behind for its fun and for the ride treatment. THEN Skull... but I guess it is because I almost can't watch Crusade anymore.

The torrent for part1 can't be find anymore by searching on demonoid. I don't understand what happened.

I still have the link to the page, but it is said: no seeders, no leechers. (but 2 hours ago they were plenty of them...)

Could this possible that Demonoid deleted this torrent without warning me?

EDIT: okay, it works now... still don't know what happened, demonoid technical thing I guess.

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist

These changes are a bit out there but they would make the film much more different than just a rehash of ANH and a bit closer to what Jedi originally was going to be.

Simply awesome.

Hard to do indeed, but according to all this thread ideas, ROTJ really is the movie that could be transformed in totaly something else. I know Adywan is not a magician but I'd like him to take some of those wonderful ideas for ROTJ revisited.

I was wondering when we see the flashes of the sabers of the duel, the walls are getting brighter.

This cant be right because the walls are supposed to be awaay.

Well, it's only on 1 frame and it is more to deliver a feeling than to be realistic. I can live with it.
