The really messed up ones are the ones who completely surpress or ignore the EXISTENCE of either side.  If you go through life NEVER getting angry, you will probably just explode one day

I think it's what Lucas TRIED to show us in the PT. I mean, to me Yoda telling Anakin that he must accept the lost of the ones he loves is one of the few really good moments in the PT. You can see that Anakin is starting to think "being a Jedi really begins to suck..." And it was one of this moment that rings an OT bell with Luke trying to save Han and Leia in ESB despite Yoda's speech.

That makes me think about a new "point of view" about the NPT: what if the script gives the audience the feeling that Anakin MUST turn to the dark side, that it is the GOOD thing to do. That the Emperor is WRITE to eliminate those religious JEDI guys?

I would like that the audience also turns to the dark side at some point of the movie!

Of course by the end of the third episode the audience must feel that the Empire is not a good thing for the galaxy either.

I think it might look a little less puppety by leaving it as is, but maybe slowing it down a tad more and maybe showing some dust/debris/whatever flying out around its mouth as it slams shut. The scene has never bothered me, but I know Ady will do something to it in the usual subtle, logical way. :)

Yes, I think that the speed of the action is a major part of the puppet feeling. Like the old movies with little boat models on big waves. Here we "see" the human hand behind the slug.

Prior to adding new teeth this scene needs indeed a treatment to make it looks more real in scale.

I think you need her in it as much as possible to make the love stort convincing. They need to have important scenes together..

I think the classic hate/love story (ala Han/Leia) could also work between Anakin and his futur wife in NPT EP1... but if you ask me, I don't even think they have to be married at some point at all.

But I think the "impossible love story" that Lucas tried to sell us could work if done the write way.

You know: first they hate each other and the moment they finaly get close some event separates them. But whereas in the OT the love story turns well in the end (with Leia rescuing Han), In the NPT the love story turns bad. Anakin arrives too late to save his love (maybe because of Obi-Wan's order to follow another mission or something like that). Just an idea.

It's not very original, but with love story the big deal is making the dialogue believable or at least not too embarassing; and the situation must be desperate.

Restore Yub Nub. Axia Euxines opinion : NO, SE music is SOOO much better

Agree. That music is one of the few good things from the SE.

Attempt to morph Shaw and Christensen into the Anakin Force Ghost. Axia Euxines opinion : have Christensen show up first then fade into Shaw

Nice idea to think about but I don't see it working in the end, either way.

I was thinking about the Worms teeth again!

One thing I think that can be made is to make them retractile teeth, like a great white shark. Mostly in the last exterior shot. The worm would look a bit more terrorizing and not just a puppet with someone's hand inside. (I guess I'm in a Lucas mood today...)

Again, I have to question the desire to keep the OT's secrets. People already know them. There's no unscrewing the pooch. I say we use these things (if they are relevant to the story).

I have a mixed feeling about this matter.

While I'd love to have a story that keep the OT's secrets (for staying true to the Star Wars canons we all love) I'd also like to see a story with big twists and surprises that even change our vision of the OT (in a good way of course, not just by screwing the surprises like Lucas movies but also by adding new ones).

You know, things like (I'm in a total "what if" mode by now:) Obi-Wan being the real father of Luke without knowing it. The mother of Luke and Leia lied to him, pretending they are Anakin's childreen, for some reason.

I know it's sounds silly (and yes, it IS silly), it's just an over the top exemple.... But it would makes me laugh, when Vader tells Luke "I am your father", that all the audience thinks "No, you're not!".  Hitchcock often said that a good movie is a movie when the audience knows more than the characters. Perhaps we can find something to play with this.

I guess I'm in an "Lucas X1000" mode. Really it was just an exemple, don't throw too much rotten tomatoes!

Edit: and again, sorry for my english in that post... I have the feeling that it's not really good.

I did not notice, as a Frenchie, that the Utapau guys had an accent like ours :P

Well it's not a BIG french accent, but I always thought it sounds a bit like that. And I must admit that the Utapau guys looks like a french cliché. You know: the-guys-that-have-intruders-on-their-soil-but-needs-the-help-of-a-big-foreign-army-to-help-them....

Anyway back to the Adywan episode V revisited!

About 99 and 04 Jabba

For the most part, a vast improvement over the '97 Jabba, but perplexingly, it doesn't look as much like the '83 Jabba as the '99 model does!

When looking closely at the shape and skin of the 99 and 04 Jabba I really think it is the same model. It is just that the ANH scene has close up shots that don't make that CG model look really good (I know TPM has a close up shot, but the face was not too animated in this one). The lightning is not the same, and the animators did not make Jabba react like the same character. But all in all I feel it is the same CG model, maybe reworked a bit for the purpose of the 04 SE scene.

I do edits every now and then to,and I read some of these posts on possible changes and alterings and cuts, and I just cannot believe the arrogance, and Holier than though attitudes I see

I understand your point, but to me there are several kind of fanediting, those done to make the film better (from the point of view of the editor of course), and those made to radicaly transform the movie in "something else", not necesarry better. I like both.

It all depends on what is the goal of the faneditor. If you want to make OX less crazy in your edit, well, why not give it a try? Perhaps it 'll work. I don't see that as a disrespect on Spielberg's work. Unless the faneditor is an arrogant asshole that spit on the original movie all the time in his comments. But then it's an attitude problem, not an editing problem. (I really don't point at anyone, I check the Indy4 thread from time to time, and I usualy like what I read).

Very good job Eric!

I still think that we need a scene where Obi-Wan learns what happened to Anakin (without the movie actualy telling it to the audience... that's the tricky thing) Because otherwise there will be a plot hole in ROTJ where Obi knows and explain to Luke what happened to Anakin. I already said that before, but I really feel it is a major point to tied the NPT (new PT) to the OT.

I can't quite see the point of the shot of the bigger fish eating the big fish staying in (it sees to be setting up a bit of danger for latter which doesn't actually happen).

Sure the scene is a bit silly and useless, but I like Qui-Gon saying, "there's always a bigger fish", it always makes think of Palpatine and rings a bell to the title of the movie.

If she was recoloured gold and given some of Anthony Daniels lines from the prequels or the Radio Drama you could create a different arc for him.

I like the idea, but then we could not use any of his episode 2 shots, because he is not shiny at all in that episode, almost no reflection on him I mean. Turning him the same gold looking as in the other episodes would be difficult I think. And using too much OT, or episode 3 footages would be redundant.

Anyone notice that in Ep 14, as we see Ahsoka's shadow slicing up a pair of droids, her lightsaber also casts a shadow? That can't be right...

Some CG graphist probably forgot to turn off the light...

Graphist - Please George, I don't want to be fired!

George - Don't worry, let's say that it's a new kind of lightsaber, the fans will probably don't even notice anyway. Ho... and you are fired by the way.

I think I will not make french subtitles after all... Maybe later will do a full french version.

I need to reframe some shots of episode 2 (not too long). And this evening I'll see if episode 3 is okay.

EDIT: well I will give "aegisub" a try, to make my french subtitle. Maybe It will be good for what I want to do.

I hated the idea of the "Sith," especially the way they operate in the current PT.

Maybe we can twist the thing a bit. What about the Sith (don't even mention that name anyway) being "separatists" Jedi?

I can even see the movie starting with a reunion between a Queen, a Trade federation and two arriving Jedi, unless the Jedi actulaty kill everyone.

This create a tension between the republic and the Jedi council. Yoda is under arrest for being the leader of the Jedi, and Obi-Wan leads an inquiry to redeem the honnor of his master.

I don't know where this story could go though, just an idea.

Info: About this whole Indy 4 debate.
Time

First, sorry for my english...

I don't hate Indy 4. I think it is enjoyable. Well, at least it don't put me asleep like when I am trying to watch Crusade for the 40 times... Dare I say I prefer to watch Indy 4 than 3 these days? Yes, I think. (Maybe it is just because it's new...)

It has some "TOD over the top" in it, and I truely love TOD.

That said, I think that movie could have been X10 better. It's not the SF vs religion thing, it's not even the CGI vs practical effects thing, it is that I find Indy too passive in this movie.

And it is so obvious that this movie is a compromise between Lucas and Spielberg visions. The movie tells us that right on the opening scene, with the 50's "american graffiti" car full of young folks that wants to have fun (Lucas...) and the serious tone of the army guys (Spielberg). I think the movie had no real vision from the begining, it was just a way for the 3 men (+ Ford)  to have fun again (and some say to make more dollars, but I think they all are rich enough not to think that way, of course I may be wrong).

The script was good enough to make a fun ride with a well known character that I am pleased to watch again. But it don't really make you feel part of the movie, sharing the adventure with Indy, like the first 2 (Oh shit, I felt asleep during Crusade once again!)

I think it don't deserved all that hate. But it is far from being a masterpiece. And with Spielberg making a fourth after saying for years that three is enough, we had the right to wait for more than this.
