Padme's Episode I hair styles
Time

The outfits are a concern solely as part of an overall mentality which causes the lack of quality and lack of consistency with the OT.

The fact that the prequels are obviously not as good as the OT don't mean that every single aspect of the movies needs to be bashed. Almost every posts, with the exeption of yours, brought an argument about why the costumes are looking the way they are. If you don't like the style, you don't like the style, but the costumes are one the few elements in the PT that were done for good reasons. IMO.

I think your problem is maybe more that there are too much Queen, senators, politicians etc... in the PT. And I'd be totaly with you on this one. But once you have this sort of characters, you just can't dress them in rags.

The lightning of the movie is also big part of the way we look at the costumes. Take those same clothes in a dark environment with no oversaturated color and maybe you'll find them cool.

Apparently Prowse wasn't even told that this was the line, that instead, the line was "Obi-Wan killed your father."  So this is what he delivered.

According to what I've read, when Prowse saw the film at the premiere, he leaned over to George Lucas and said, "You know, if you had told me that was the line, I would have played that differently."

Yep, only Mark Hamill was told about it few minutes before shooting the scene.

Idea: Star Wars - Fan Trailers
Time
InfoDroid said:

I love making trailers.  In a lot of ways, they're actually more exhausting to make than a full fanedit because of the detail work and the fact that you have to tell a story in a very short period of time.

True but in the meantime you don't want to tell too much to the audience. I don't like trailers that shows elements of the story in chronological order for exemple.

Vaderios, do you have any ideas on the Gungan battle?

I'd say: let the droid army win! The victory would have a bitter taste to our heroes because they destroy the droid control battleship too late and EVERY SINGLE GUNGAN DIES IN EXTREME SUFFERING! MuuaHAhaHA.... How radical is this!

... just kidding...almost! ;)

I did not know where to post it: http://mysterymanonfilm.blogspot.com/2009/03/raiders-story-conference.html

The 1978 RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK Story Conference Transcript, with Lucas and Steven, avalaible on pdf format.

"GL:

The trouble with cliffhangers is, you get somebody into something, you sort have to get them out in a PLAUSIBLE way. A BELIEVABLE way, anyway. . That's another important concept of the movie -- that it be totaly believable."

Amazing reading, where GL looks like the serious guy and Steven like the one who want to make it funny.

Except there is nothing Plausible or Believable even in the Indy world to explain hiding in a fridge to survive a Nuclear explosion.  Or swinging with monkeys that attack Russians, jeeps falling down three waterfalls in a row. etc.

Where was this George Lucas from the transcripts, maybe it  is like invasion of the body snatchers, lol. Or he was replaced with a clone somewhere between 1983 and 1993.

That is why this transcript is so interesting and why I took that specific quote.

The People VS George Lucas teaser trailer
Time

I still think the "I'm not too old for this shit" mood of NSNA is fun to watch. It don't take itself seriously. That's why so many Bond fans don't like this movie I believe (like most of them don't like much R.Moore humor). I am not a real Bond fan (Casino Royal was quite good though) so maybe it is why I like this one!

But... I am french, and very often in the late 70's early 80's the guys who were doing the french voices made crazy stuffs  with the dialogues (most of the time some welcome humor, adding lines when the actors turn their back to the camera, etc... but always with respect of the movies mood) . Star Wars OT in french is almost better than with the real actors voices. I suspect NSNA had a good "french treatment" on the voices.

Now the french versions are quickly and poorly done these days. The prequels with french dialogues are even worse than with the original voices (if you can ever imagine such a thing).

I was thinking of storyboarding a sequence where Amidala's ship double's as a sub so she can meet Boss Nass at the Gungan City instead of the 'sacred place'.

I was thinking the same. Only, after her ship is landing maybe you can just cut to Qui Gonn, Obi and Jar Jar approaching and going into the water. Then when they meet Boss Nass, a hologram of the Queen appears right after Boss Nass says that he don't like the Naboo. (We need a scene where the good guys explain to Boss Nass what happens on the surface before the Queen asks them to help her, I think.)

Then:

- Whossa this?

- I am Queen Amidala (etc...)

Plus I think a hologram of the Queen would be much easier to do than to replace the whole set behind all the characters. (Some set behind Boss Nass would need some replacement though)

"Qui Gon - I need parts for a 327 Nubian

Watto - Ah yes, ah yes. Nubian. We have lots of that. Soooo, let me take- a thee out back. Ni you'll find what you need."

That's it! The Queen's ship can now leave tatooine without Anakin! Okay, it's not that smart of an idea, but it works! Ah!

Of course you'll then need to remove all Anakin's following shots (and some Darth Maul on Tattoine references) .......

The movie would not reach the 2h10 lenght Star Wars canon though.

Also the problem with this scene , that has been mentioned before, isn't the fact that Luke turns his head too soon but way he follows the path of the falcon. I'll be doing something to fix this

I always assumed that he listened to the Falcon before turning his head. So yes, no problem here. I need to check the way he follows the Falcon but I never felt anything really wrong in that scene.

I choose to insert Dooku in TPM's final moments because it's subtle, and because, to me, it works two ways: Mace's line and the pan hint at Palpatine being the master, and when Dooku shows up, it both creates some ambiguity

Subtility here is not far from confusion.

I think a "Palpatine or Dooku being the Sith Lord?" sub plot could work but, if so, I'd like it to be more obvious. I always found Dooku's character very poor on screen. Having a sub plot where the audience could wonder who, between Palpatine and him, is the Sith Lord could even add some interest in the political aspect of TPM. In other words I'd like to emphasis, in parallel, the dark side of both Palpatine and Dooku in TPM. (only that Dooku's is not yet a Sith, just a Jedi who don't like the council. He will turn to the dark side after the death of his only Jedi friend, Qui Gon.)

I think the audience needs to know even more obviously that the "phantom menace" is really hiding inside the Republic. The audience needs to know something the good guys don't. That's Hitchcock definition of suspens. Only here the audience also have a question in mind: Palpatine or Dooku?

EDIT: So showing Dooku having emotion at Qui Gon's funeral would be a way to tell the audience: Dooku is not a real bad guy (yet). So it has to be Palpatine.

Personally, why I don't like Dooku saying Obi-Wan should join him and help him destroy the Sith, is because it is a pretty big statement, that is never followed up on. Why does he say that? Does he really want to destroy the Sith? Or simply want Obi-Wan to join his cause? It seems like such a random line.

Kind of agreed. As much as I would like him to be the first leader of the rebels against Sidious, I know it would be hard to make an edit that follows that plot because of the small amount of footages we have.

Plus having him really turning to the dark side after the death of his apprentice (Qui Gon) is still quite an interesting character development IMO.

I agree that this new Dooku scene is cool, but if Sidious face is removed from all the movie, I still believe the audience will think that this new character, who shows up at the very end right after the "master or apprentice?" line, is Darth Sidious unmasked.

But maybe we could play with that, I don't know.

All in all a nice scene that opens new doors!

I think it's subtle, adds to his character when it comes to his feelings towards the Jedi, Qui-Gon and the Republic as he explains to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones, and it doesn't contradict anything.

Welcome!

Not a bad idea but Maybe a bit confusing placing it right after the "master or apprentice?" line. The audience would know that he's not Sidious unmasked (the beard!) but it would lead to think that there's a link. (and could be really confusing if Sidious face is completely hidden through all the movie.) But after all, there is the pan on Palapatine face... that should be enough hint to the audience to  not make confusion.

Also adding a new character at the very end of the movie is a bit odd. But why not, and I agree it would add more depth to the character. It would be a nice scene on its own; it's just the moment it is integrate that bugs me a little.

Sorry for my english.

French guy here.

Looks like the prequels are not aging well.
Time

You can seriously imagine someone going from looking like Ewan McGregor to Sir Alec Guinness in the course of 19 years just because of some stress? It is great if you can, but to me that is a pretty massive stretch. Again, nothing personal.

Well, some people really age fast once past 60.

20 years are not nothing on a human body.

Let's say "EP3 Obi" is 40, but looks a bit younger, and "EP4 Obi" is 60, but looks older.

Of course I'm in a full Lucas apologist mode here.
