Nice job on the music of the factory scene indeed!

I made a little edit of this droid factory scene few months ago, here's the link again:

http://rapidshare.com/files/166639224/montage_episode_2.divx

I tried to keep 3PO and R2 but cutted some silly parts and changed the order of the scenes.

(3PO still looses his head cause I tried to make the scene "better" without changing any element of the story)

The first Matrix film has its merits, but it's sorely overrated. The other Matrix films are better than they're given credit for but they're nothing great. Critics and university courses have all sorts of silly ideas about films and shouldn't be paid attention to. There's a lot of pretention going on about The Matrix. Another cyberpunk film which gets a lot of pretentious reaction is Bladerunner. The setting is good and Harrison Ford is good, but that's about it. The film doesn't work very well and is terribly disappointing. It's even worse with the director's cut making Deckard a bleedin replicant, which is NOT what Harrison was playing.

And surely you know better than the experts?

Such "expertise" is on very shaky ground. Yes I would know better than people caught up in pretention.

Bladerunner always worked for me because of its mood. Watching Bladerunner is like listening to a blues or jazz album. I just spend a good moment each time I watch this movie drinking a whisky and I free my mind as the movie quietely goes.

What I also like is that there are no bad guys in this movie. Sure some reps are killing people but they are just like childreen who grow too fast and let their anger go too far. Almost every major characters are in love or feel something for someone else. Bladerunner is not a simple "catch those guys" movie, it's a multiple love stories and a reflection about the time that pass. And the movie gives the audience the time to think about themselves (how would I react if I was told that I'd only have 4 years left to live?). I understand that it can be taken as a bore but I personaly think it's pleasant and beautiful.

I agree though that the movie works better if Deck is human  (IMO).

sorry to be a little mean but. You say this a week after adywan already said it. He is doing exactly what you are doing.

No he isn't are you kidding me!? Ady is planning to change the story around. He's giving it an overhaul. Not even close to the same thing.

I think there was a misunderstood here.

EyeShotfirst was only talking about what you said about ESB (I THINK? or maybe I misunderstood EyeShotFirst myself!). But as you said, your work here is about the PT, you talked about ESB only as an exemple.

Ady wants to add major changes to the PT story, indeed.

I like the little droid in Watto's shop kicking Jar Jar in the balls (right before the "hit the noise!" line). It's not really an hidden sequence but it's very short and almost unnoticeable at first view.

It kicks Jar Jar in the balls? Cool! Wait, does Jar Jar HAVE balls?

:) I'll try to make an animated gif out of it when I have the time.

Good points Heks, but I think the only way I would agree is if they went to the warehouse for the Ark for some reason. As it is now, the only real link would be the warehouse and it is already clearly extablished that the warehouse is the same from Raiders. Now, focusing more in Indy and Marion in that opening B&W bit makes sense since the movie deals with their relationship.

Just my opinion.

I had a little idea for an edit of Indy 4 that I'll probably not do now that at least 3 indy4 edits are on the making.

What about replacing the picture of Sean Connery that Indy look at by a picture of Marion? I don't know if it would make sens with the dialogue that come right after that though.

I did a mock up of what the shot of Veer's Walker being in the only one left might look like:

Used the shot of the tripped walker just before it gets blown up, the last frame of Luke's exploded walker, and Vaderios' matte at about the angle that it should be.

Vaderios has pointed out the turret facing the wrong way before and ImperialFighter has pointed out that the sun is behind the rebels in most of the other shots.  I don't think anyone has pointed out that there is a guy on a turret on frame right facing AWAY from the walker, confirming the oddity of this shot.  Were the Rebels supposed to charge the walkers at some point?  Beats me.

It's beautiful, but I feel like the mountain behind the walker takes away the feeling of a menacing big machine coming our way. I'd like to have the silhouette of the walker in an empty sky.

i was thinking last night, about the ideas for the fett scenes. would it work better if,

  • fett jumps out of hyperspace, meeting a gathering febel fleet (maybe a HUGE fleet seen orbiting a planet like some form of ring, more and more ships jumping out of hyperspace and joining the loop)
  • he flies towards a main ship, or station
  • delivering the plans to someone, maybe a general, or maybe just an underling
  • departing fett flies off, and then he gets a transmission from a cloaked figure (vader, or perhaps a cowled sidious) so the treachery is revealed afterwards

the question would be who is betraying who, is vader betraying the empire? is fett betraying the rebels, or mabe the cowled emperor is working both sides again like in the PT, fett would have no idea that the cowled sidious is the emperor, but we may remember him from TPM.

It's all part of the Emperor's plan. Like the actual movie. This new Fett sub plot does not change a thing. Exept for the mention of the Bothan spies.

The Bothan that were killed died for nothing else than to make the rebels believe that is was hard to get the plan.

EDIT: so I agree with Darth Piccolo. No Vader calls to Fett would be even smarter. It would make the audience think that the rebels have a chance. Until Palaptine says that it is in fact a trap, at the end of the movie. At that moment only the audience understand that Fett was working for the Empire.

Great job, Davnes on the Boba Fett plot.  I think it might actually work.  We could find people to do impressions of Vader, Ackbar, and Fett, I'm sure someone could use it!

The hard part would be making Ackbar... Maybe using morphing transitions between existing shots could works to get a good lips synch. But I fear that it would end looking like those youtube fake talking cats videos...

Not to mention that all the shots used on this new scenes should be deleted from the rest of the movie, otherwise it would look odd. Like those cheap B movies using several times the same footage.

If you gave Ackbar's current face to a lip reader it would make no sense at all, so lip synch isn't too much of a problem and Ady has proved that a lot can be done there.

But if it is too difficult, Fett could give the plans to a human Rebel general who could be dropped into the briefing scene.

Then all we would need would an actor in a Fett suit, an actor in a Rebel general suit and a section of corridor.

Not an effortless undertaking but well within the realms of the possible.

I know Ackbar's "lips" are not really matching every words correctely. But I still think it would be quite difficult to just making it looks good enough. In fact that makes me want to give it a try and to "play my little Adyman" on this! Should be a good exercise for after effect!

"You'll have your reward, Fett", should be enough line for Ackbar. It only makes him open his mouth 6 times.

Fett simply giving the plan to another rebel could be another easy option indeed!

I feel more and more that this sub plot will be in the final cut! (hope so).

Maybe just an "Obi-Wan killed her" line can be done with mixing some Palpatine's lines and used on one of the shots of Vader (emperor as voice over), hope I make myself clear...! ;\

But it would be hard to believe, even for Anakin, that Obi-Wan killed a pregnant woman... God it's tricky...

And maybe pointless if we can find a more radical change for the end of ROTS.

One PT thing that kind of ruins the OT to me is the "where is Padme?/ I think you killed her" part. Cause now every time Vader is saying something like "You don't know how powerful the dark side is." or anything like that, I'm thinking "Yeah, right, the power that made you kill the one you loved and the mother of your childrens..."

So in order to correct (a bit) this issue, I think that if we could find a way to have the Emperor saying "Obi-wan left her for dead. I burried her." (or a better line in that spirit). It would appears less bizzare that Vader stays with the emperor at the end. Cause his anger would be more focus on Obi-wan than toward himself and Palpatine. (I think I should/could have done that in my silent edit...shit!).

Thinking about Indy's ending...  even the end of Raiders is not so explicit. Does the power of the Ark let Indy and Marion live just because they "closed" their eyes? Or because the Ark "knows" who are the good and the bad people?

This alien obviously knows that Spalko is a bad person, he can read her mind. So as a "gift" he confronts her to the horrible things past and future done in the name of communism (newsreels). And bam! head explodes.

It's not that bad. I'm open to others ideas, but for now it's the best one. It's no radical change from the movie though, but it adds a bit of an explanation about what happens.

What about  placing Spalko at the center of the 13 skeletons, indeed, then some sort of beams go from the aliens eyeballs skulls (ala Dark Cristal) directely into Spalko's brain, then the visions starts.

All right easier to say than to do.

And it' still not a real payoff, just another way to show that same newsreels ending.

We are not talking about some 30 seconds streaming youtube video. I for sure would not want to spend hours downloading a movie with changing AR all along.

Boon was not really bashing this guy (this is why he did not tell all the past events surrounding him in the first place) he just warned us about the quality.

Boon said: "Those who can enjoy releases that are technically insufficient are of course welcome to enjoy it." This line can be taken as ironic, but it is also actualy just plain true.

The Problem with George Lucas
Time

Okay I'll try to express my feelings about this matter in the "best" english I can...

Da Vinci did not try to sell his Mona Lisa in VHS, then in Laserdisc, then in VHS widscreen, then in VHS 97SE, then in DVD 2004SE, then in DVD 2004SE+poor 2006 original transfer... I can understand that an artist wants to give his fans the best version (or what he think it is the best version) of his work. But when it's turning to an easy cash cow, people have the right to be angry. Of course we are not forced to buy (I still did not buy the GOUT for I have nice original widescreen VHS). Shit, I guess I'll buy the blue Ray though.....

From an artistic point of view I think, like C3PX, that once a movie is becoming a big part of the pop culture, it should always be available in its original form (the one that made it popular). It's like preserving an ancient monument. If the artist wants to add something to it, fine, but I feel that not making the original available is something wrong.

BUT, some could also say that if in 300 years from now people still want to watch Star Wars, they probably will not care if it's the 1977 version or the 2004 version. Both will looks antique! And maybe no more avalaibe in the current "video" fomat anyway. But if the artist wants his latest version to be THE version that last, can he really be blamed for that?

Poll: ROTJ Celebration Themes - 1983 or 1997?

Even as a kid I never liked song A that much. And it's a little whatever to end the whole saga.

As much as I'd like to have the OUT in good quality DVD or blueRay with song A, my vote still goes for B when comes the question "what is your fav?".

Incidentally, the link also includes an English translation of Yub Nub, something I had no idea existed. Pretty crazy stuff. Some really weird stuff happened to my brain while reading them. Now that I know the words to the song, I realize how unbelieveable powerful it is, and see why it is necessary that this remains the true ending to the Star Wars trilogy. In fact, realizing I have gone my entire life without ever reading these lyrics, and not knowing them by heart, I no longer feel worthy to call myself a Star Wars fan, and will therefore be leaving ot.com forever. Farewell guys.

I felt the same when Someone told me that EWOK is in fact WOOKIEE's opposite word.

You see I'm still alive, hope it will help!

If people start debating with me it's only reasonable for me to debate back. I don't think it necessarily follows that if some people seem to dislike my posts then they must have a good reason. People can dislike things for bad reasons too. If you look at this thread, I got mocked before I did any debating with anybody. I'm not so sure that absolutely everybody is happy with me looking at things differently. Difference bothers people. That is well documented. I don't mean any offense to anybody by saying that (or anything else I say in this post), but I do seem to get an awful lot of trouble for disagreeing with the majority.

Thank you for your thoughts, though. I understand you're trying to help. But it would perhaps be more comfortable if you took that sort of thing to PM.

(And I know I just did what you say I do, I debated with you, but I kind of had to, because what you said was unintentionally accusatory. I had to defend how I post. But I understand you were trying to help and I appreciate your insight. However, like I said, I would appreciate if such stuff was done by PM in the future.)

Yep, fair enough.
