STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

As someone said Han is poiting at the crater (which would probably be an interesting place to hide) and then he see the cave (and say "yes", it's definitely a good place to hide)

I don't see it as a huge continuity problem. If Adywan feels uncomfortable with it he can change it, I don't mind.

But there's enough work to do without searching problems when they are not that obvious  (at least ot me).

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

That's actually not as bad as I thought.

We just need to find someone who's willing to do it (the hard part) and collect generous donations (the other hard part).  Dust/scratches are the only thing I'm worried about.  It would be best to have a second print, then combine them to get the best out of both.  This would of course more than double the costs...but would also be better in the longrun.

I think once we do EpIV, people will be more willing to make donations for V & VI.

In the end I'm sure we could find a lot of people toying with photoshop to clean up the biggest dust and scratches.

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)

Your heart's in the right place, but unfortunately, 90% of 16mm prints made before 1982 were on Eastman stock and have faded over time.  See P. G. reel #2 for a typical reproduction of what a 30ish year-old 16mm film print looks like these days.   Reels 1 and 3 of the Puggo GRANDE were very well preserved, judging from their color and contrast, (they may have even been Eastman LPP, a much better "low fade" film stock) but they had faded a bit as well and a true representation of brand new prints from 1977 are probably gone forever.

I understand. I even want to use the Plugo Grande for a possible grindhouse fanedit of SW! ;)

Once again I LOVE the color correction by Adywan, I just thought a color correction from the 16mm print would be easier to match the real original colors than use the 2004 DVD as a basis. But I guess I was wong.

I did not see the Puggo grande yet. I'm waiting for V3. :)

Puggo GRANDE - 16mm restoration (Released)
Time

Just a silly question:

I think that Adywan did a color correction of the movie based on the 2004 DVD. I mean he changed the 2004 colors with filters and things like that, right?

He did a GREAT job, but now that we almost have a 16mm restored dvd version (thanks to Puggo), can't we use the colors of the Puggo grande on 95% of the scenes of Star Wars revisted? Perhaps even on a HD version of SW?

I know photoshop and after affect can apply colors from a footage on a black and white picture.

Let's just turn a good quality version of Star Wars B&W and just use the Puggo grande colors on it!

Tell me if it's stupid or not.

AVATAR and 3D in general....
Time

Trailer is good and beautiful, but the creatures are not "photo realistic" at all. Maybe on the big screen (and in 3D) it will looks better though. (like the CG Arnold in T4 who looked nice on the big screen, but kind of fake on the trailer playing on my PC. CG needs the little details to been seen)

EDIT: 720p and 1080p version looks way better.

Some movements still looks odd to me but the level of details of the CG characters is very good. I guess I need to get used to the design.

My problem is not the fact that the macguffin deals with aliens, but I was hoping (maybe THAT is the real problem) for a movie more grounded in realism in the way things are shown (like in Raiders). God, aliens, I don't care, I wanted a believable movie.

I personaly don't believe in God but when I watch Raiders I kind of believe in what I see.

I personaly think we are not alone in the universe, but when I watch Skull I don't believe those interdimensional beings were here in 1957...

An interesting idea, but one i probably won't be doing. The clone wars is after all part of the EU.

I wish it was true but I think Lucas said that the CG Clone Wars movie and the CG TV series (series that I find myself enjoying for the most part, unlike the "movie") are Star Wars canons (?)

But of course on this matter it all depends of our personal state of mind!

TheBoost idea that I like a lot is to make it clear that Luke spent a long time with Yoda for the last year or so. If he never saw Yoda since empire that means he was only trained by him for few days. Even with the best skills Luke could not became so powerful with so few training from a master IMO. I like the idea that Yoda never wanted to tell him the truth, but once he feel that he's dying, the truth needs to be told. Problem is it needs dubbing Yoda or finding a workable line from Hamill from another movie. (like "I need to ask you again" or something like that)

AngryVideoGameNerd did a video for Spike TV "The Top 10 Dumbest Indiana Jones Moments".

Really it's almost a love letter to the movies.  After watching it I've decided to lighten up on Crystal Skull... a bit.

Definitely worth your time: http://www.spike.com/video/cinemassacre-top-10/3197473

It's fun to watch but I don't agree with most of them.

Number one being the screaming sequence of Willie in the jungle with Indy and short round playing cards? The guys playing cards without giving any shit about the noise she makes is what I call good fun.

Same thing about Connery and "the birds in the sky"scene. First we think: Henry Jones go crazy! Then we realise that HE saves the day just by having a great culture. It's smart fun.

The jump from the plane in TOD is over the top, indeed, but somehow I feel it is directed in a more believable way than Indy4 waterfalls.

No, to me THE dumbest scene in an Indy movie is when Henry Jones senior sits on a chair to think, because generaly when he sits and thinks...  it opens a escape door! It has to be the laziest idea in a Spielberg movie!

But I guess all this "dumbest moment" thing is very subjective!  ;)

A "grindhouse" edit of ANH is an idea that could become a work in progress for me.

Puggo is okay for me to use his 16 mm preservation edit (thanks to him).

I think I may steal some ideas from this thread! And the R2 subtitles are a must have.

Still not 100% sure I'll do this edit though, but if I have enough ideas by myself I may start in a month or two.

So for this edit, bad ideas are good ones!

Just wondering where the 'scene missing'(s) should go for maximum value. Either any time a really impressive effects shot/sequence appears, or just the whole Yavin 4 battle:

"Then man your ships. And may the Force be with you"
[SCENE MISSING]
*BOOOM!*

You gonna start a thread?

Haha, I  still don't know where the missing reel would be the best.

Maybe I'll start a thread when I'll begin to work on it, but I don't want to spoil any jokes and changes I would make. So I guess it would just be a thread to let people know about the progress of the project without telling exactely what happens in the edit.

If you change the Death Star into coruscant at the end you also need to change the admiral Ackbar breefing. And although the audience was told that the Death Star is not yet operational, it would be odd to not see it by the end of the movie as it is set as a major plot in the begining of the movie. The whole Emperor's plot is that the rebels must think that the Death Star is not operational, but it is.

What would be the emperor's great plot if the end was set on coruscant? I'm sure we could find something, but not without changing the whole movie and redubbing a lot of characters... I don't think it could work.

Trapping the wild creatures of Endor could provide a new interesting weapon for the Ewoks to use (recyling the Wampa subplot for a new version of Jedi).

Personally I'd prefer the Ewoks to have been fighting the Empire but if those traps were for keeping predators at bay, turning those predators against their new enemy would be a nice re-use of dropped concept from ESB.

Maybe just using possible shots from the Ewoks movies were they preparing traps (if it ever exist, don't remember) could be useful somehow?

Just cut the 3PO " oh my god they'll be captured!" scene, and it will look like they planned this (?)

Maybe color correct those  "working on trap-A-team-look-a-like" scenes like if they work at night. But again, I don't remember if such scenes exist.

Infodroid has personal problem (apprently now solved) that takes him away from the edit for a moment.

But the discussion continues at fanedit.org.

Lots of interesting "what if" discussions concerning the end of the movie.

I personaly try to make my new effects shots better in the case they would be used in the final cut.

So it's more or less a stand-by state until infodroid comes back.

I always knew Padme was Queen Amidala, too. If either of those were intended to be plot twists, then they didn't work.

The problem was everyone knew Portman was playing the role of the queen before even going to see the movie, then sudden she is introduced to us as the queen's hand maiden. So that was another one that wasn't too hard to figure out.

So true... I even laughed the first time I saw the reaction of Obiwan and Anakin. (Quigon stays a bit cold to the "news", even smile a bit, but to me he did not know either.)

It's a shame  that almost the entire theater audience guessed something the main Jedi characters did not.

People who watched the PT before the OT
Time

I don't know if this thread will have much succes but I'd really like to know if some of you watched Star Wars for the first time going from EP1 to EP6? (Maybe without even knowing the original characters, plot twists etc...)

At what age? Did the whole saga felt like one solid story to you? Did you find the OT a bore after watching the special effects of the PT? Or on the contrary you found Luke and Han's story more interesting? How Yoda's and Vader's "revelation" lines worked in that context? Etc.

About the Arena youtube clip: VERY nice! I like how Padme do not just "Jump!" that high.

But I don't like the first facial shot of Mace once in the arena cause we see some Jedi fighting in the background before the actual fight happens. Anyway it's a major improvement over the original and with a few more work on it I think it could be on the level of a AOTC: revisited version.

Good job!

Now, I don't know if it was already discussed here, but in a ROTS making of book it is said that in an earlier draft of the script Palpatine tells Vader that a Jedi killed Padme. I think it would works better than "you killed her" because it would emphasis the hate of vader for the Jedi and his submission to his master, instead of letting the audience thinking "hey Vader ,wake up! How can you say in ESB that it's such a cool power when it is the one that made you kill your wife?! ".

I think we have enough audio footages of Palpatine to make a line "I think a Jedi killed her..." or something.

Looks good, but... a bit too CGI-ish, I think. Good work, but maybe something could be done for the CG to not look so clean?

You are right. It's difficult. I made a version with a shaky camera movement, I think it looks better. I also added an orange tint to the smoke bursting from the eye.

http://rapidshare.com/files/256940038/DISINTEGRATE_4.mpg

Still CGI-ish. But I think that's all I can do on this shot  for now.

I think that's better, but you should take out the green lens flares, they scream CGI. Also, the background looks way too smooth and clean, as do the lights. Maybe it should be color-corrected to match the look of the originals? Otherwise, good job.

yeah, the lens flares maybe are a bit too eye catchy, I'd like to keep them, but bring the opacity down could be good indeed. It will be a quick shot anyway, so in the end of my shot where you can still see the lens flare spinning it will probably be cut.

About the background, it's a 3DSMAX scene so I can change it easily I'll see what I can do (for now I'm working on the disintegration/teleporation of other shots), but the original UFO walls of the movie are also quite clean and blurry and have changing colors from one shot to another (dark blue, bright orange and yellow...) so fr now I tried to make it quite simple indeed.

Thanks for the interest!
