theslime, I usualy agree with your Hitchcock reference (often say it myself in fact!). The audience knowing who Vader is and not Luke is obviously the option Lucas choose. It's not a totaly bad thing, indeed, it brings new "point of view", and possibly more suspens. And it is also true that by 2009 (soon 2010) almost everybody who like movies in general knows the line "No, I am your father" even if they did not watch Empire!

The fact is that in this particular case (the revisited Adywan versions) I personaly feel that everything needs to be done to preserve the original trilogy as much as possible. If surprise was a key element in Empire, I'd prefer it to stay an element of surprise.

I'm sure has been already discuted here but:

In EP 3 revisited, maybe Adywan could cut any Vader name references and cut the Anakin story when Palpy find him on Mustafar (cut the "he's alive, bring the medical shuttle" lines). No Vader under the mask in EP 3 at all. That way the Vader/Father thing could still work in Empire.

I personaly think keeping the father surprise for Ep 5 is a must have.

What about making notPadme the secret apprentice of Palpatine? Or even his daughter would say Lucas...

Make Anaking falling in love in episode 1. Then it is revealed to the audience that she's Palpatine apprentice at the end of episode 2 and that her love interest in Anakin was purely part of a plan to convert Anaking to the dark side (maybe she would fall in love at some point, but it's never really explain), then Palpatine kills her by episode 3, blaming the Jedi for it.

I don't know just an idea.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

To me 3D is cool as long as the movie don't throw things to the face of the audience every 2 minutes (unless it's a ride of course)

Bad thing about old 3D was that the effects were way to over the top, resulting headaches.

I heard Cameron said that a simple 3D scene with two people walking in a garden with the snow falling could be a good use of 3D cause in that case the effect would help the mood of the scene and would not be just an "in your face" effect.

I think 3D could be a good tool in the right hands. About turning 2D movies in 3D... I don't know. As long as it's just for the fun of it, why not.

All in all I think we are still taken out of the movie by the 3D because we are not very used to it yet. I don't want 3D to take over 2D, but I'm not against it.

That highlights the problem with TPM; it's structured around the wrong character - Padme. The blockade of Naboo should just be a MacGuffin to get the events in motion and lead to them meeting Anakin, which it does, but it becomes the actual focus of the story and the goal of the characters. Anakin is secondary, when he should be the focus. Instead we get an entire movie wasted on his introduction, a fatal flaw.

I don't always agree with DV, but THIS is so true.

I even think this is THE biggest problem with TPM. The MacGuffin is usualy the thing the characters care about but the audience not. In TPM we, the audience, are suppose to care about taxation and blocus of Naboo while we just want to know what  the characters feel and think. We only have "I'm cold" and "I sens much fear in you" (notice how Yoda needs to explain how Anakin is feeling. It's not a good thing when you need to tell the audience what you could have shown. An now I'm waiting for the Ric Olié post.)

There is a deleted scene where Yoda, Mace and Obi are talking about taking control and putting Palpatine under arrest or something like that.

There is a similar scene in the main movie where Mace is at a briefing holo-table with Yoda and a couple others in holo-form.  Anakin has just left to inform Palpatine that Grievous is destroyed.  The Jedi discuss how Palpatine needs to step down now, and they may have to remove him if he will not do it himself.

Yep, true, the deleted scene would be too similar. In an edit of mine I would try to remove this scene and replace it by my idea (!)

Now, what about using, I don't know, the scene in the Jedi chamber where Anakin is thinking alone, cut to that deleted scene and cut back to Anakin like if he "saw" them. This could show the powers of Anakin and the audience would see the Jedi through his eyes: like traitors complotting against his friend.

I'd just want more connection between the audience and Anakin.

The idea to introduce a more sinister side to the Jedi Order also appealed to me... Something to suggest the decadence in their organization and their stubborn adherence to outdated orthodoxy...maybe'd give a bit more credence to Anakin's betrayal.

Agree, we often try to make Anakin darker here and it's good, but the thing to do is to make the Jedi less likeable so we can connect with Anakin.

At a point (maybe when they watch the hologram of Vader and Sidious) Yoda and Obi needs a scene where they understand that what happens to Anakin is as much their fault than Palpatine's. And all their actions in the following scenes and movies will be to redeem themselve.

Well I think that is already pretty much what Lucas had in mind, it's just not very well done actualy.

"The Force is an energy field which surrounds all living things" isn't really that far from midichlorians being something genetic found in all living cells, is it. So that idea doesn't bother me, I just wish it had been handled a lot better.

Let's say the midichlorians are "IN" living cells and the Force is "BETWEEN" living cells (or everything else, like the rock). Midichlorians just are the connection.

In either case, midiclorians serve absolutely no purpose to the plot and can easily be removed from all three films without it affecting the story at all.

Yeah, but at first midichliorians had a purpose. Palpatine creating Anakin through midichlorians (and in a way it is what he says to Anaking in the opera scene if we read between the line).

But this explanation was abandoned god knows why. Maybe because it would be hard for the audience to believe that Palpatine also oversaw Qui Gonn would finding Anakin on Tatooin etc...

Welcome The Concierge, your idea is interesting I'm not sure how to work it in to ROTJ, could Padme become a Force ghost when Mace couldn't? It could be a dying dream of Anakin but that might get in the way of the pacing of those crucially fast paced scenes.

I'll have a think about how it might be done.

In my silent edit I just used some few frames of Padme crying (from ROTS) when Vader is looking at Luke when the Emperor is killing him.

That way we can connect with the PT (although it is not the taste of everybody) without having to show another silly ghost. It shows that Vader still remember her and it could even work without the PT because of all the talking about Luke's mother before. The audience should guess this "new" character have to be Luke's mother and the lost love of Anakin.

Although it would be more suitable for a fan fiction or EU, I have an idea.

What about making the lightsabers changing color, depending of the mood of the character... For exemple in ROTJ Luke saber could turn to red for a moment and in ROTS Anakin's saber would completely turn to red.

I know, it's a little silly, but I had to share the idea.

Well that doesn't really make any sense, since they're constructed with a specific colour crystal, and that's just too much like a mood ring.

I personnaly only pay attention to what is shown in the movies, and colored cristals are not mention anywhere. (or di I miss a line from Jedi? cause I did not see this one in english a lot, and sometimes traductions are not exately the same lines)

I think my idea makes sens. It's just a little over the top and (like you said about the mood ring) can be taken as a bad joke. ;) So I think you're right, this idea can' t belong to the Adywan projects.
