New HDTV Broadcasts?
Time

Very few french TV chanels presents their movies with subtitles. So is the french version. Sadly the files recorded by my father is a .wtv file with commercials inside the movie. Apparentely the .wtv files are easy to convert or cut in SD, but when it comes to HD the tools are not easy to find to play with it.

If my father did not already remove the file from his PC I can ask him to give it to me. (but it is TPM, not "Star Wars" 1977). But frankly everybody is pissed off about the poor quality.

The original trilogy will air in two weeks. But it appears that it will have the same treatment.

New HDTV Broadcasts?
Time

Okay, the french TV broadcast of the first two episode is a terrible, TERRIBLE mess.

Full 16:9 pan&scan... the horror... (No CGI yoda, of course.) Looks like the 80's all over again. First the crawl is in the correct ratio (if not you could not read the text) then BLAM! 16:9 zoom.

The worst part is that the audience was huge behind the screen, but people who like movies are really disgusted. I know there is even a petition somewhere against that kind of practice now.

TF1HD usualy zoom their movies in 16:9, but I had hope that M6HD would not, I was wrong. Alien also got that same treatment.

M6HD did a lot of promotion for this event (all 6 movies in HD) but it ends as a big fiasco. Shame on them.

TMBTM - an angry french guy. :/

(OT question: if you upload to Rapidshare, and you don't have an account, do they delete the files after a certain amount of time?)

Maybe they have changed the rule but I think that, with a free collector account, it's still: files deleted 90 days after the last download. I can't say with no account at all though.

His humor is my kind of humor I must confess. I like the idea of a brainless, stupid, dangerous and horrible geek person making "expert" movie reviews. I think it's fun. I don't mind the basement scene but it is a bit distracting and too long. I like his "ex wife" and family jokes because they are just quick lines. When he starts making little movies inside the reviews, I don't think he is as funny. You know, it's like those stand up comedians, so hilarious when they are on stage, but usualy kind of average on movies.

I like your ideas. Only I don't feel like ROTJ should be the darkest of all the movie at all cost. Well, there must be a point, near the end, where all things turns bad - and it is more or less the case in the actual movie (rebels capture on Endor, space battle avorted, Luke in trouble) - but I don't see anything wrong about a real happy ending for the whole saga. We already have three movies with a kind of dark ending (AOTC, ROTS, ESB). I personaly would let the other three with a happy ending. It would bring balance to the... oh well, you got me! ;)

But this is YOUR fanedit, and this is just my opinion. I like to watch new visions of this movies anyway. best luck with it!

Anakin is not going to look like Hayden for the simple reason that Vader died as an old(er) man, not as a young Hayden.  Look at Yoda and Ben; they are not their younger selves, but as they were when they died

Yes, but apparently when Anakin turned to the dark side, he became Darth Vader and Anakin died. Obi-Wan and Yoda even said that.

That is Lucas point of view indeed, and why not. But "there is still good in him..." after all, so you can also say that at the end of ROTJ it is Anakin who died. And we even see his face as an older man. So it is jarring to see Hayden's face at the very end (specialy if you choose to watch ep 4-5-6 before ep 1-2-3).

Problem is not that Qui Gonn and Padme don't have personnalities at all, they have some, in some way. But they are not very likeable to the audience, at least not to me. And surely not as much as the OT characters.

Frankly the word that comes to me to describe most of the TPM characters is: Stoic. So no wonder people have trouble when asked to describe them.

And even if I kind of like Neeson's Qui Gonn, there is part of his character that I don't like - like taking a child away from his mother based on the fact that he has "pure" blood or something. And I would not mind that much if there was at least ONE very likeable character to root for. But there is none.

My only disappointment is that the ending implies we won't ever get to see The Striking Back of the Empire...but I say it has to be done. I'm sure a solution could be found - death doesn't mean anything in a soap opera. Let's see it, TMBTM!

That's easy!  Just throw out the explanation that they pieced Vader back together again, and that's why he's all burned up and half-mechanical (that maybe he wasn't burned up and all in WAR OF THE STARS, just wearing the armor the same way the regular troops wore the Stormtrooper outfits).

He He, I thought about using shots from ROTS when he is on the medical room (without Hayden's face, for we can still see he is young in those shots), then his "Frankenstein" scene with Palapatine.

But really, maybe I will do a sequel but not before 6 months or more, if I have enough good ideas, why not, but not anytime soon.

I really think a "direct to video" sequel could be fun, with VHS look to the picture this time?

Yes, they want us to buy new 3D TVs, but a friend of mine works with stereo pictures and see them in 3D with just a kind of modem and an additionnal screen put over his regular 2D monitor.

He tried his "Avatar glasses" on it, and it works...

When I was a really young kid, I thought it was "Dark Vader". Then I turned 5 and realized the error of my ways.

Here in france they slightly renames some characters, for they were not easy to say in french, so it ended as:

- Dark Vador

- Z-6PO in the OT, then renamed C-3PO in the prequels (what a mess)

- Chicktabba (Chico) in the first film, then regular Chewbacca (Chewie) in all the other movie.

- Yan Solo

Oh, and Avatar is a good movie. Not an original story, at all, but it was somehow needed to make half the planet earth go to the cinema to see a SiFi movie in 3D. JC has taken a story that he knew could work on the masses because he needed some money back. I can understand that. Even people who don't like SiFi (and it's more or less 70% of the audience IMO) go to see this movie! The theaters are full even almost a month after the release. That don't make Avatar a GREAT movie, but Cameron made a movie he likes, people like it also. And now he can do sequels with more complexe stories because he knows people will go.

Really, I can only applause to this.

As far as I think killing Han would have been a great idea, I can maybe understand why Lucas did not want it.

Remember Alien3? Killing Newt and Hicks after all the suffering endured by Ripley to save their skins in the second movie was not a clever move (at least not for me, and a lots of fans).

I think killing Han after all the risks taken by his friends to save him at the begining of the movie would end the same way: the audience would feel like "what? So half the movie was pointless?". The only way for Han's death to be interesting would have been killing him on the Falcon, right after a great heroic move, giving a new hope to the rebels during the final battle.

But as we know, Han is on Endor, and killing him in the destruction of the bunker would not be visualy amazing and we don't have any footage of other characters reacting to that; although seeing Lando laughing right after that (cause he don't know his friend has been killed) could change the mood of that scene... but we're not doing a Grindhouse ROTJ here! ;).

Killing Lando could work indeed, but franckly, as much as I like him, I think he is more a friend to the other characters than to the audience. I would probably be more shocked by seeing the Falcon destroyed... Poor Lando, I always felt he did not have enough screentime (or interesting lines) to really be part of the story (exept his great betrayal/friend move in ESB, of course).

Killing Leia would be a amazing twist, but I don't know how to do that with the footage we got. And I'm not sure we could bring some sens to this.

So, in our quest to find "who must die", we're left with: killing Luke, indeed.

I don't know if it makes sens, but I sure can already see Vader's funeral pyre with the ghost of Luke appearing in front of it. Then he turns and there are the three other ghosts, and everybody smile. A little cheesy, but good cheese.

EDIT: And that could be called "End of the Jedi".

Hehe, some very nice ideas. Although I don't have Adywan's magic (or patience!) to do all of them (the "MAD MAX eyes" shot, would have been GREAT. I wish I had the idea!)

I just want to point that the Death Star added scenes, even if poorly directed, I agree, are not "fan" films, but part of the Star Wars video board game. Meaning it IS David Prowse under the suit. Maybe there is still too much contrast on the picture to really fit the Puggo grande style, indeed...

I saw Battle Beyond the Stars, at one point I thought about using SFX from others movies (I think there is also a battleship design real close of the Tantive in BBTS if i remember well. Or was it Star Crash?) but in the end I felt that not many shots from those movies could have been used for what I had in mind (exept maybe some explosions). And I wanted to do a Star Wars edit, not a mash-up of several movies anyway.

Mixing new music with Williams score is tricky, indeed. But replacing the whole music is almost imposible because there is still a bit of Williams score in the center audio chanel (the one with most of the voices and sound effects).
And the audio programes I tried to remove the music also removed some voices frequencies and ended with robotic voices feeling.
I spent quite some hours replacing every laser sounds on the bridge scene and play with audio volume to insert the voices back. Don't ask me to do this on the whole movie or I jump through the window, with a wilhelm scream ! ;)

Also, RD-D2's subtitles were difficuly to read at times because they would appear on top of a light colored backdrop. Maybe you could fix this by making the subtitles yellow with a black outline?

There is already a kind of black outline, but it is so thin that it does not help a lot, I agree.
I have no plan to make a version 2. But I will keep all the data on my PC for some months. I think there could be enough crazy ideas from you guys to make me change my mind. lol.
But I'd prefer to move on, and make other kind of edits for now.
