Correct viewing order of ALL official Star Wars related movies / series ?
Time

Of course I prefer the 4-5-6-1-2-3 order to be watched first,

but I think the 4-5-1-2-3-6 is really a good option too. Flashback PT appearing after the Ep5 father reveal makes sens, then continue with the conclusion in Ep6.

Plus the final space battle of ROTJ is still the best looking battle of all 6 movies IMO, so it would not be too jarring compared to the special effects of the PT.

Interesting they changed it to "black" in the French translation...  I assume you have a word for "clone" in French?

So the expression "clone war" is known only by those who found out that Palpatine is not the real Palpatine.

Not a bad one, other than Luke, a nobody on a nobody planet, knows all about "The Clone Wars!"

Yep, true. I thought it was only Leia talking, but I somehow forgot about Luke's line...!

Clone in french is... clone! Don't know why they used "black/noire"

EDIT: maybe for better synch of the dubbing after all.

(Sorry if my english is not that good on this post. )

I think there is no real need for Clone Troopers or soldiers, or invaders, in the story to call the war the Clone War.

Could have other options (?), I'm just thinking out loud:

- Good Palpatine secretely replaced by evil Palpatine clone (who is the apprentice of a Dark Lord of the Sith, but kills him when he has a chance, so he become THE dark Lord himself). So the expression "clone war" is known only by those who found out that Palpatine is not the real Palpatine.

- The Jedi fighting the Sith to prevent them to get their hands on cloning technology.

Mmm, I'm not too proud myself of these ideas, but it's hard to come with something really interesting with this Clone stuff...

To be really fair, in french, the "Clone Wars" was translate as the "black war" "la guerre noire", so as a child I never grew up with this Clone concept until I saw the movie with original audio! And frankly I did not like it much.

I kind of like the idea of "cloning" being the "macguffin" of the NPT.

The technology everyone (bad guys and good guys) wants to control but that don't really matter from the audience point of view, since what would be interesting should be the relationship between the characters.

Hell, the "moral" of the NPT could even be that the Force (used for good or evil, since the bad guys wins in the end anyway) is stronger than technology.

I was not trying to excuse the indeed poor writting of this dialogue. I hoped I was clear enough about that.

And you're right about Matthews (rightfully) telling about no matter how often Padme says she's in love she has no reason to be in love.

But Matthews stoped after those particular lines with his usual drawing and says "what that does even mean?". I'm just pointing that I find amazing that a guy with a real good eye an understanding about what should drive a movie can't even understand such a goofy dialogue.

I took this exemple because it is representative about what I feel while listening to him: some great points (keepers of the truth and justice my ass!) mixed with total misunderstanding of certain things.

Another comparison worth looking at is RLM70's and Confused Mathew's reviews of First Contact.

When I finally got to listen to his 2001 rant I was gobsmacked by just how asinine it was but it doesn't take away from most of his observations about the PT.

Yes, I agree he has a lots of good points in his PT reviews.

However, sometimes he don't think twice. exemple:

When he talks about the (awful) dialogue between Anakin and Amidala in EP3:

- You're beautiful

- it's because I'm so in love

- no, it's because I am so in love with you.

- So love has blinded you?

Matthew is condused once again... because he don't understand what it means. Well, I agree this dialogue is really bad written and really bad delivered. But it means something: Padme thinks she looks beautiful because happiness and love in her life makes her look beautiful, but Anakin saying no could be taken as "no, you're maybe not really beautiful, but I'm so in love with you that I see you as beautiful". And Padme is making fun of it.

God, I don't believe I'm writting an entire post about those shitty lines. They are bad, but they do have a sens. Sorta. What I'm trying to say his that that Matthew guy may have a great eye for plot holes and things like that, but when it comes to actualy think twice about something he don't understand, he don't take the time for it.

No wonder he did not like 2001.

I just started looking at confusedmatthew 2001 review...

Damn, he says that 2001 is about nothing but his review has nothing to say either. He just tells us what he watchs on the screen instead of telling us what he thinks the movie is about.

If you are bored by 2001 it's okay, plenty of people are bored watching this (great) movie. But don't make a supposingly funny review that is in fact embarrasing to watch.

CGI yoda is not bad at all, but he almost always has a suspicious/angry look in his eyes. His personality it is not. Okay personality can change, but I prefer my OT Yoda to the Manga lookalike character we have in the prequel. That said I don't hate it. He's quite good.

Looking at all of Vaderios's mockups makes me more excited about ROTJ:R than ESB:R.......

Until we had these mock ups I never really noticed how sparse and uninspired the sets of ROTJ are.

Matticon.

While I feel the same and find Vaderios's mockup really great, I think that the austerity of the Emperor's room and the fact that we see the outside battle from very far is a nice way to show that the Emperor is playing with the faith of the galaxy from a place where he thinks he's safe. It is also quite intimist and it serves well the purpose of the scene because we have this very personal fight going on between 3 characters. I'm all for having some nice views of Endor though the wide windows and cool atmospheric lightning effects in some shots, but seeing too much of the space battle would end as the Dooku/Obi/Ani fight in Ep3. Not very OT looking.

In short I'd like the throne room scenes to keep their "intimist" mood.

I kind of like the concept of Anakin having a dream of Vader killing Padme. In some way he sees the futur, but don't understand it (could mirror Yoda's teaching in ESB, "difficult to see the future is"). It could even make that horrible "Nooooooo!" line works (not that I want to keep it!) because he realises (and the audience too) that not only the dream happened but he was that masked man. He knew it but did not understand. There is no way to escape to the dark side: even if you think you're doing the right thing it will turn bad. I think it is already more or less Lucas's vision of the story, but if we want to follow that same idea (but maybe we don't want!) it would be more effective with this dream part. But it's tricky...

Well, I will not feel guilty because I laughed and you don't. But really, I did not laughed AT the poor women, I laughed of the situation and the way it comes from the left field in a Star Wars review. Humor often comes from the way you present the subject, not the subject itself.

But at the same time I'm not saying that you're wrong. You just did not feel the same, and I fully understand.

Humor doesn't excuse absolutely everything and nor does playing roles or whatever shit a person might want to try. What you find worthy of being presented as humor says something about you. And some things should not normally be used for humor.

Showing a guy with a tied up woman is his basement only shows that some guys are weird and dangerous. That is not humor against women, it's pretty much the opposit. And here the humor comes from the fact that the shot of this girl takes us by surprise, not because it is good fun to watch a woman crying.

Well in answer to your question I put together a small video, it was done very very roughly and I'm sure someone as skilled as Adywan could make it way better.

URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Lg8nk5FArU

It's a nice try on few frames, but doing the whole sequence would be another task. Jabba needs to look at Han in the eyes (not always maybe, but sometimes at least), plus his movements needs to match the scene, plus the lips synch, plus in the end of the scene he turns his back to the camera and I don't think we have good footage of that in ROTJ.

All in all I'd say I doubt it could be done that way. Or at least it would not be easy, even for someone like Adywan.

I guess making a new CG Jabba would be even easier! (not that I want that scene back, just answering the question)

In the current version a lot of Vader's dialogue is incoherent and comes across as non-sequesters,

While Vader is indeed very lunatic and change mood all the time ("TAKE HER AWAY!!! / I think you'd better calm down") I don't feel any of his lines in my edit are really incoherents. Vader just need a good doctor! He is a stressed guy who constantly try to keep himself calm. At least that's the way I see it.

About the audio drama thing. I did not want to use dialogue made to match the movie, I wanted really new dialogue. At one point I even contacted a youtube guy who does JEJ impersonation. Perhaps it would have been better this way to get a kind of continuity to the voice of Vader, but in the end I really wanted to edit JEJ voice from other sources, because the fun of doing it was more important to me than the continuity problem caused by using different audio sources.
