The War of the Stars Part II - The Future in Motion (Released)
Time

Hi all,

maybe some of you already know but I just finished the workprint of the sequel of my Grindhouse edit “The War of the Stars”. This new edit is not grindhouse though.

It’s a mix of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

It has some deleted scenes back in and some of them are old looking. But I don’t mind too much. The main sources used are the version 3 of Dark Jedi’s theatrical cuts. So the whole edit is not as sharp and clean as the DVD (but every other aspects are better as you know). I tried to match the new scenes (some from the prequels) with DJ’s theatrical cuts.

Ok. Perhaps. I meant it was lacking a house falling on someone specifically.

Anyway. Im currently working on an all-in-one Saga 6 movies in 4 hrs cut. And its just somewhat frustrating to deal with some of the connective tissue that isn't all that important.
Well, if it was that easy, everyone would have done it by now.

I did.

As silent movies ;)

Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)
Time

Ronster and Darth-Ender: I think both of you are right: you need a guide, a list of what you want to do or not. So the vote seems like a good start. But you know some of this changes will face the truth of what can be done or not in the end (and how many time people want to spend working on them. Because some things are doable, but would require more time).

The only thing you have to keep in mind is: if some ideas finaly can't be done, does this affect the other ideas or not? If most ideas can be abandoned without creating plot holes or that sort of things, then it's okay. People can give it a try. If it's a succes, it's great. If not, so be it.

What you don't want to happen is having a problem in the making of a new scene that you MUST do for your edit to have a sens. A list of those type of scenes could be done to check them prior to the others. To see how they can be done.

nevermind, just read my last reply before this one. It was just a useless added line.

I more or less agree with the silverwheel's statement.

But to play the devil's advocate:

(I'm only speaking through In Lucas's mind here...) The young ghost means that you look like when the "good" person in you died. BUT, we know Vader came "back from the dark side" at the end of the movie (hence the "return" of the title). So... does this means that the old dying Vader was a good man at the end of his life? I would say: yes and no. Yes, he brought "balance to the force" by "balancing" Palpy into the depth of the Death Star... but does this redeem a life of doing terrible things? No. So if we keep the "Lucas point of view" about Jedi's ghots, then it makes sens to have Hayden at the end of the movie, because Vader can't be redeem by one good move at the end of his life.

Of course that's a more cynical way to view things than the OUT, where it is implied that Vader, even with a life of being a "galactic vilain" could be redeemed by one good move. (something that I now find a bit odd, but that's just me).

It's a matter of point of view here. Both can be understandable to me. BUT what is not is seeing Hayden at the end of ROTJ if you did not see the prequels. Hence my question about the acknowledgment of the PT by this fanedit or not.

PS: hope I was clear, english is not my first language and this was a bit difficult to put out, lol...

Hayden's ghost makes no sens if you did not see the PT.

We just saw Sebastian Shaw without the mask few scenes before. Even when I was 8 years old I recognized him at the end when he comes back as a ghost. In fact it was kind of gratifying for the kid I was to understand by himself that "oh, that's Vader the way he looks when he is good!" without explanations or dialogue. Now if a young man's ghost would have appeared next to OB1 and Yoda I don't know what could have been my reaction, but I guess a big WTF?

This is probably the most intolerable change for me along with CG Jabba. Much more than who shot first anyway. Well, it is understandable if you watch the whole Saga from Episode 1 to 6, I can give you that. So this raise the question of: does this fanedit acknowledge the prequels? If yes, then I guess Hayden could stay, even if I'm against this. If not, then it NEEDS to go.

The music of the Original Trilogy vs the music of the Prequel Trilogy
Time

I love the music of the prequels, one of their very few good points.

My problem is how the pace of the movies affects the music. Specialy Attack of the Clones, where great music themes are mixed in a messy way because the pace itself is a mess: good guys + bad guys + separatists + silly humor + romance + pathos + OT references, etc... When you know that in Star Wars pretty much every important characters have a music theme, I can imagine the nightmares mister Williams went through when he wrote his part.

So I would say great individual parts, but a lot of time not put together in a very good way. At least not as good as in the original trilogy where the music had the time to develop and to really become part of the characters and not just "the music that plays when the characters are on screen".

How many people have had George come into their homes, alter their OUT VHS tapes and laserdiscs, then threaten to take them?

Since the VCR and laserdics, that were the best medium in their time, exist more or less no more I think it can be said that the only way to still have the OUT in its official today's best format is simply impossible.

If "the painter" comes into my house and says "listen, your painting is crackling. I can do some restoration for some money". I'll be pleased. If he draws a mustache in the middle, he'll just not have my money. Unless I think the mustache is good looking... but a lot of people don't and find this offensive for the original piece of art.

The problem here is that he gives us the choice between a crackling painting and a new version of the painting. While most people would simply want a good restoration.

Lucas often refers to himself as a painter continuing his work on one piece of art for many years. I say, fine. Artists can show first draft on galleries, then work on it more etc... No problem.

But a painter does not sell his work to someone then few years later comes in the customer's house to take it off the wall to draw a mustache in the middle, then ask few dollars more or he'd leave with it.

It's not even a problem of an artist vs his fans; it's just something that you don't do if you're a well educated person and if you love art. Specialy when the artist is not the only person who worked on the "painting". It's a slap in the face of the people who worked on that "first draft" and help the "painter" to get a name, fame and money.

Man, I feel like I'm posting these thoughts for the 100th times. But really, the guy does not seems to understand.

What I understand from this article is :

1 - The official releases are the way he wants them to be, no matter what fanboys says. (no news here)

2 - He will retire from doing blockbusters movies and focus on more experimental little movies (heard that before, a long time ago... no news here)

3 - If you want to make a fanedit of his work, then "fine", but be sure to remove his name from the credits. (big news!)

Thanks George!

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I personally don't think the donation is a good thing, I think it put useless pressure on Adywan's shoulders if anything.

I think the amount of energy and human's life time used for this project is at the same time amazing and maybe also starts to be not healthy. But that's just me.

Good luck and Keep up the good work though, just don't loose your mind.
