Star Wars Episode II, The Hidden Planet (1956).
Time

The opening crawl from the long-thought-lost Star Wars Episode II, The Hidden Planet (1956).

Immensely superior to the 2002 remake, The Hidden Planet captures the mythic nature of Kurosawa (The Seven Samurai, The Hidden Fortress), the suspense and intrigue of Jules Dassin (Rififi, The Naked City) and the fun and adventure of the 30’s and 40’s serials (Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers).

Awesome.

I think the idea of having large ships hovering above Mos Espa could be interesting and further differentiate it from Mos Eisley. Also, adding things to the soundscape like the distant sounds of laser fire etc.

Keep up the good work, I’m loving each update on this project!

Thank you! The laser blast i could do with someones death scream (Maybe a good wilhelm scream) in the back ground. Not sure what you mean by ships in the sky tho. I don’t wan’t to imply imperial control or anything. Lawlessness i like, but id need more context for the ships. I was thinking about sneaking a mandalorian in somewhere. Not the main guy but one of the other ones maybe if i can

I was thinking more like freighters/ cargo ships. I like the visual of Anakin’s dream being just out of reach. Similar to the planes flying over Rick’s cafe in Casablanca.

Ahhh ok. I have a scene in mind i want to try to create (binary sunset moment for Ani) that i think it would go good in. Plus i can try to add more traffic possibly to the sky in other shots.

Oh nice, Anakin definitely needs his own binary sunset moment.

I think the sabre hidden in the rocks should be Ben’s. The one we see in the flashback in TLJ. It could be easily implied that he abandoned his sabre after destroying the temple, and Luke found it and hid it the walls of his hut. Metaphorically, Rey repairing Luke’s mistake. Also, it’s as if the force is aware that Ben has turned and his calling for his sabre to be returned to him.

The tricky think is Ben uses Anakin’s saber throughout the third act, while Rey uses Leia’s. It would take a lot of work to swap out the hilts for every shot.

That’s a very good point. Though if someone could accomplish it, I think it would be the best option narratively and tie the film in a little closer with TLJ and make the three films seem a little more cohesive.

Something I would like to see is a dirtier/ smokier Mos Espa, closer to the concept art. The same with slave hovels, I feel they should be dimly lit, not warm and inviting. During the sand storm, the lights should flicker. The Phantom Menace makes slavery look far too pleasant. We should be rooting for Anakin to escape this environment and feel his pain at leaving his mother there.
