Classic OT covers
Time
Due to poular demand (well, Jaster Mareel and oojason), I'm doing a matching Holiday Special cover. The front cover is fine, but I'd appreciate some feedback on the back cover. I'm basically trying to choose between four different layouts (below). If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate them. I'll edit this post to link to the final cover when it's done. Thanks.

DVDcover art for Rowman Bonus Features
Time
I believe that RowMan only compiled the first three discs and the fourth was made by Cowclops for the TR47 set (correct me if I'm wrong guys). I have an almost complete cover for the Holiday Special disc, a work-in-progress for the DefCol disc (both will be posted when complete). I was planning to do individual covers for Rowman's three-disc set, but since I keep them in 2-disc cases with my TR47 OT discs, I like ReverendBeastly's system. Anyhow, RowMan has nearly completed a new set, which is superior to the set listed above (and is the best extras set around IMHO), so you might want to wait...

Idea: Ultimate Extras Discs Challenge
Time

This is a related thread to Project To Collect All Star Wars Documentaries, but I didn’t want to send that thread off topic.

What does everyone think the ultimate extras (supplemental materials) discs for the OT should be like?
I think there’s room for more than just the one official disc, and there’s obviously plenty of stuff out there.

Should they include the supplements from the DefCol and/or Faces sets?
Documentaries (if so, which ones)?
Trailers? Auditions? “Lost” scenes? Stills Galleries?

So, if I make an arbitrary rule and say three discs, one for each OT movie, what would you put on it?

(If anyone can figure out how to format this as a poll, please do)

PAL vs NTSC laserdiscs

I don't think anyone's gotten further than I have (even though I haven't released jack),

Karyudo, I have been consistently impressed by your interesting posts and technical knowledge. You are obviously questing for the "ultimate" transfer yourself. I'm just wondering if you are intending to release when you're done. If so, how about starting a thread so we'll be able to follow your progress?

Classic OT covers
Time
Thanks Neil,

Yes, I was thinking of doing a pre-ANH version for those who wanted it. I've tried to make these as "classic" as possible, hence the use of "a long time ago...", opening crawl text and end-title style credits. However, sharp eyes will detect that the crawl and title fonts aren't identical to the originals, so I'd like to correct that. Can anyone point me to free downloads of these or email them? The other thing I thought of was putting a starfield behind the main title logo on the back. Does anyone have a screencap of the opening starfield?

Info: OT 'master prints' question & Lucas' claims it no longer exists
Time
There is a link to an article somewhere on this forum that indicates that Lucas and Kurtz received British Dye-Transfer prints (at least of Ep IV). I have never seen a dye-transfer print of Star Wars, but I have seen a couple of other movies and let me tell you, they blow away the regular prints for color reproduction. One of the best things about these prints is that they do not deteriorate in the same way as regular prints, but retain their truer colors for longer. There's no way these prints would have been used for the SE process in '97 (though the original negatives could have been), so they are probably the best source in existence. Getting one on the other hand...

As far as LD tape masters are concerned, that's an interesting idea, but:
1) what tape format were they telecined onto, and is it:
a) higher-res (extremely unlikely) than the LD?
b) significantly less soft/noisy (possibly) than LD?
c) less deterioration prone (possibly) than LD?
2) the tape masters would almopst certainly have been retained by LFL after the pressings.
I suppose there's always hope that an LD mastering employee would have run off an extra master for personal use...
