Yes, I'm also at the stage of disc art only - I've just got too many discs to have covers and cases for all of them. I was planning to use exactly the same system as you are using - already made my templates (using the same posters you chose!), the only difference being I don't include the movie's title logo. What I didn't have planned is the optional format logos, which is a great idea. Did you scan yours or are they downloadable somewhere?

OT.com fan edit blog: your thoughts please (Update: development underway)

Sounds good Jay, and many good suggestions in this thread. A built in poll would be a good idea, so that all members could rate any edit they had seen out of ten, say, and there would be an averaged score (imdb style). This would avoid the "which is best?" poll immediately followed by "and who'll send it to me?" type thread.

The legendary "Starkiller Ranch" Thread

I absolutely love the boldness of this idea. I wish it could work, but I don't think it can. Presumably you still want a climax to each movie, despite the "saga" idea. Well, without the destruction of DS1, ANH doesn't have one.

You'd have to cut it off after they rescue Princess Leia and they move to Hoth because they find the tracking device on board the Falcon? No, wait - there is no Yavin base, they escape with Leia en route to Hoth - end of movie. Then the battle of Yavin is used at the end of ROTJ?

Idea: Fan Edit of ROTJ

I think the parallel action is effective in principle, it's just that the three strands are not equal in tension. The weakest is clearly Endor. Here's something I posted in MagnoliaFan's thread a while back, which might be more appropriate here:

MagFan,

long ago, before this forum, before there were prequels, I had a plan to re-edit RotJ (shock, horror, scandal). It never happened, as there was no DVD then and no access to 5.1 mixes. Now I know you are going to do all the movies eventually so I'd like to request for you to incorporate the main feature of my old plan: re-dub the Ewoks. Of course, judging by your prequels, you may well already be planning this. The idea wouldn't be to give them subs like your JarJar & Nemoidians, since I think it works that we don't know what they're saying, but just to change the tone of their characters. Okay, they look like teddy bears. Nothing can be done about that (CG wookiees?). But I think a lot of their silliness comes from the way they sound. If they had deeper, more guttural voices (think Samurai warriors in Kurosawa's films) they would be far less cute, and seem more serious, which would make their eventual victory over the imperial troops much more believable. This would be helped by removing their most comical antics like the guy who accidentally wraps his bolas around himself and so on. Just wanted to share this with you - I'm sure whatever you come up with will be great.

Classic Edition: Return of the Jedi by Ocpmovie (Released)

Ah, now I understand. Marvolo, hub-printable means the kind of disc on which you can print right up to the hole in the middle, whereas some printable discs have a clear plastic "hub" on which you can't print. My disc label (above) is designed for a hub-printable disc and therefore some stuff near the middle would not be visible on a non-hub-printable disc.

ADM, I'm sure the X0 capture was done in SD. As you are suspecting, there really wouldn't be any point in capping it in HD, as the information isn't there to capture (so they won't have to do it again). An upconversion would probably give better results than a hi-res cap - it will look better on your HD monitor, but it's not going to look significantly better than the SD DVD overall. I think DL DVD is likely to be the best format for this project and we all know that Zion & MBJ will be done long before Blu-Ray drives are on the market. Right, guys?

If you're referring to the Laserdiscs, then yes. Not only are the latter from a different telecine, they have also had image filtration applied, noticeably temporal smoothing.

I have seen some screen caps (don't remember what site) that show changes done to reduce the violence in the films. For example, blaster hits on stormtroopers have the flash and smoke reduced. Were these changes made prior to the SE in '97?

I believe those specific changes were made for the 2004 DVD, not the '97 SE.

Anything that promotes quality above quantity has to be good. However, I agree with Jay that post limiting should not be automatic on sign-up, but only used as a punishment. This would make a fair and visible progression towards a ban. Titles were always a nice touch and a free-for-all would just be having two nicknames rather than one. I like the idea of the 6 month (or a year) Padawan title, followed by titles assigned by the mods (and anyone else who had reached the Jedi Council). Number of posts should not be a factor at all IMHO, though they should be recorded for those who want to know.
