This is a great idea. I think disabling the discs is kind of unnecessary and takes away the civility aspect. But there's no way getting some discs back in the mail is going to prevent LFL from releasing this in future if it's successful - they're not doing it as a favor, they know there's money to be made. You can even write in your note "I look forward to buying the blu-ray edition, but would prefer if it is available without the SSE."

I'd rather buy a second set, donate the OT discs from that set and send back two sets of the SSE. I agree with you that there is a lot of bitterness and juvenile posting about these movies and I've posted in other threads supporting LFL on the new release. However, packaging the discs with the SSE discs is ridiculous. This is not intended as an act of spite, or to get a chuckle. George Lucas has said he wants to know if people really want the OOT or the SSE. This is a simple and effective way to answer his question.

Return of the Jedi was never as good as the first two. It shouldn't be lumped in with the prequels as parts of it are great. But SW and ESB are rock solid from start to finish and that just isn't true of Jedi. I mean Jedi Rocks sucks, but let's face it Lapti Nek wasn't all that hot in the first place. And the Ewoks did vastly change the tone of the series.

With SW there was a single plot thread (Luke/Han/Leia). ESB had two threads (Luke, Han/Leia). I think there was a draft of ROTJ in which Leia led the Endor mission while Han piloted the Falcon in the DS battle and Luke faced Vader/The Emperor. This would have worked better for me as it would have been nice to see the original three heroes each having a separate responsibility and then being reunited at the end. That and having Kashykk instead of Endor. And Luke doing some training.

Lucas claims he's not re-releasing the originals to appease fans, but rather to bate them.
If you read what Lucas actually said, without the interpretation put on it by the "journalist", I think it's pretty encouraging. It suggests to me that he will be using sales of the new sets to determine popularity of the OOT vs. the SSE, despite packaging them together. This implies that if the set is very successful, LFL will continue to release the OT in future editions/formats, which I think we all hope for.

Good thoughts on the PIF/torrent request threads, keeping project threads informational.

I'd prefer the SW and non-SW project threads to remain separated as they are now, especially if old posts are to be retained - I don't think the number of SW projects will drastically diminish as a result of the release, they'll just be different (more focus on 'extras', docs and maybe even '97 SE preservation? [oh dear]).

Presumably LD threads which are locked on 9/12/06 will be unlocked on 1/1/07?

I also wonder if the chatroom could be linked directly from the forums?
