Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
I always thought the '04 covers were truly awful, but I didn't care that much, 'cause they're only the SSE anyway. But it's really incredible to think that that "artwork" has been reproduced literally millions of times on what is probably the biggest selling DVD series there will ever be. Anyone who's thinking of sending back their SSE discs to LFL should include the covers.

ITS HAPPENED-- OOT AVAILABLE FROM LUCASFILM
Time
I'm hoping this refers only to the fact that the soundtrack will probably feature the '85 mix (I hope) or '93 mix (more likely), rather than the theatrical mixes. Alternatively it could refer to a restored version (i.e. digital compositing ONLY) which would be okay with me. Anything else would be worrying. I have to admit I don't like the sound of "a version".

Not to put too fine a point on it, those covers suck, big time. They're almost as bad as the ultra suck-fest that was the '04 covers. Someone is being well paid to do that photoshopping, and then those covers are passing through many hands of people being paid for quality control and approval. It's incredible that no-one says "wait a minute - these look terrible". If you want good covers, you'll have to make your own or use some of the great ones here.

I've read a few conspiracy theories about Lucas's plans with this release, none of which I believe. Here's mine, which I think is plausible: LFL have been planning the OUT release since last year. The three disc set was originally going to be it, which is why it had the original poster art on it (and no bonus disc, as it would be supposed to be a companion to the '04 set). Then George said "hang on, that way they can get the OUT without my improved '04 editions - what if it outsells them?" So they postponed the OUT release and just put out the '04 discs again. Now they package them together, so it can be spun either way, regardless of sales.

Why all the negative coments about george lucas?
Time
I have never understood the Lucas-bashing. Don't get me wrong, the SE and PT suck. But I've always thought that Lucas was doing what he felt was best for his films, even if he was horribly wrong. All the great film-makers of his generation (Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg, DePalma) have turned out progressively worse films in their later years, but I don't hate any of them either. Suppressing the OUT was his worst crime: and that was bad, but not badly intentioned I think.

Rewrite the OT in light of the PT
Time
INTERIOR: LUKE'S X-WING -- COCKPIT.
Luke lines up the yellow cross-hair lines of the targeting device's screen. He looks into the targeting device, then starts at a voice he hears.
BEN'S VOICE: Communicate with the midichlorians, Luke.
Luke looks up, then starts to look back into the targeting device. He has second thoughts.
BEN'S VOICE: Become one with the symbiant circle, Luke.
A grim determination sweeps across Luke's face as he closes his eyes and starts to mumble Ben's training to himself.
INTERIOR: DARTH VADER'S COCKPIT.
VADER: My scanners indicate that the midichlorian count is high in this one's blood stream!
