New test clip: the Hosnian destruction and Holdo’s Escape Redux!

https://vimeo.com/691641417

Right before I made the thread for this project, I did a mockup for the idea of having Holdo and The Raddus barely escape the destruction of Hosnian Prime. This would, in my edit and in most Sequel edits I think, introduce a glimpse of the character before her appearance in TLJ material and tie things together slightly more than before. This clip is the updated version of that idea now slotted in with the rest of that material in the current edit. Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Like the previous clip, this is more of a test than even a workprint version, so there are things to fix/change/finish at every level. But it helped me work out some pacing issues, start testing Force-tinting again, and made me come up with a hopefully simple solution for the idea that Hux broadcasts his “last day of the Republic” speech to the galaxy before firing the weapon.

As for the workprint for THE NEW ORDER as a whole - my spreadsheet tells me I’m 86% done with it. Getting the workprint done would probably be a score of 95% or so, so that 86% feels kinda about right. I’ve got three or four more sequences to lock down before I’m ready to start sending things out: (1) the Senate report, (2) Rey’s extended flashback, (3) Galen’s explanation of how this new threat works, and (4) the weapon firing & post-fire debate from this clip. Probably sounds like a lot, but everything already has a mildly rough edit in the timeline, and I have notes/thoughts for each one that I just need to implement. So without screwing myself by mentioning an actual deadline for this, I’ll say ‘getting sooner every day’ and leave it at that.

Looks really great, love the red, and I think the Holdo escape was done really well!

Spider-Man: Web of Fate "Fan Mix" Series
Time

Sorta inspired by Anakin Starkiller and u/Electrical_Ad_7194 on Reddit.

This series is a fan edit, including several Spider-Man shows, movies, and even video games. This edit is not the best way to view this material, but I think it’s a fun experiment It lets me craft my version of the Spider-Man mythos using my favorite bits and pieces. You will definitely need a lot of suspension of disbelief to enjoy this edit due to the change in actors and the change from live-action to animation, it won’t be for everyone. The editing itself might be kind of crude and far from perfect, that’s because this is the first time I’ve ever edited anything, so go a little easy on me. Still, feel welcome to give some constructive criticism.

The thing is the separatist have to speak English, because Obi is listening. Other ways it would feel jarring.
I think the problem with the voices is that they sound like they were recorded on a toilet, it doesn’t sound like they are standing in this huge hall.

Yeah, I guess you’re right, I don’t really know how you’d fix that problem though.

I am planning to complete the first 30 minutes with all the Geonosis stuff this week. Most of the difficult dialogue work from the first act is already done so all that remains is to throw everything together.

Here are the first five minutes:

Let me know what you think of the audio, working with the AI voices was a little harder than expected.

EDIT: There are some audio cracks during the opening, I’ll try to fix this later today.

I really like this as an opening to the movie, it’s eerie and darker than TPM which is perfect for the second film in a trilogy. I think the AI voice for Obi-Wan worked very well, but I don’t think the Separatists didn’t sound the greatest IMO. Instead of going with AI voices maybe you should try what Anjohan did with the Nemodians in his Phantom Menace edit. Overall this makes me more excited for this edit!

Right, I’ve finished the JAR JAR VOICE TOOL.

You can find it here. Thanks again to evansj1983 for identifying all the Clone Wars clips.

The spreadsheet now contains a list of 300 Jar Jar voice lines, timecoded and marked as clean or dirty. It also contains a link to the accompanying video file (4GB, ~35 min) featuring all 300 lines in order, indexed back to the spreadsheet and also timestamped in case you want to re-source them for your own edit.

Basically, anyone should be able to now search the spreadsheet for the line, word, or sound they want, then use the video in any editing software that splits audio by track in order to play around with Jar Jar’s audio.

There’s lots of good stuff in there - many references to him supporting a Queen, discussing the Force and the Jedi, being a Senate representative, and having proper motivation and character beyond passivity.

If you notice any errors, let me know, because it’s set up in such a way that I can fix it easily.

Go play!

If you need anymore lines there is always the Disney Infinty 3.0 lines for Jar Jar. Here’s a YouTube link to all of his lines if it helps: https://youtu.be/uoGGwG4-JUU

(The Last Jedi) Fate of the Jedi | A Star Wars Legends Re-edit [Workprint Released]
Time

I finally got around to watching this, and just like the last edit, I absolutely loved it! The things that really stuck out as great were the Training montages, music edits, slight tweaks, and giving original scenes entirely new contexts. For example I loved the Order 66 soundtrack you played at the end of the Kylo and Luke Duel, it really fit imo. Giving the guards lightsabers will always be cool, and it fits more in line with Legends materials like The Force Unleashed. The Mandalorian Season 2 soundtrack in the Luke and Leia scene fit perfectly, and I really love how you end Luke’s journey.

There is one complaint I have though, I feel that Rey went from “YOU’RE A MONSTER!” to “There’s good in you” To quickly, I think that would’ve been fixed by adding back the last two Flashback sequences. I can also I understand why you didn’t add them, I personally feel like they show a very Human side to Luke, but I know in this edit you were trying to place the blame more on Kylo and less on Luke.

Other than that I feel like this edit is perfect for my tastes, Green Saber Luke, World between Worlds, and the tease for the next edit at the end are all awesome. I hope to see TROS edit soon!

Attack of the Clones - Altered and Extended Edition (V.1 Now Complete and Released)

Just created a mockup for a Clone Wars “ending montage” for a potential V.2. It’s very rough and has no sound effect or score, and is more of a proof of concept. It uses clips from the Dark Times and several other cinematics. When V.2 comes around I hope to make my own cinematics to match the aesthetic of the first clip from Dark Times. The purpose is to really cement home the idea that the Galaxy is now engaged in a full-scale war, and to adopt George Lucas’s early ROTS ideas of wanting a montage of the Clone Wars, albeit in a different way.

I like the concept, and I think this could really work within the context of your edit!
