Holy crap, that’s amazing! Glad to see this edit is finally underway.

Did you really need to post this on 3 separate threads?
I think he meant, why did they add Yavin 4 to the background of the shot?
Well, that was the whole joke.
Oh, my bad. It seemed like you were answering why Lucas changed the shot in general, not just why he added Yavin 4.
Does anyone have a comparison of the scenes in Kylo’s quarters? Those shots are a pretty good way to determine whether the green tint has been reduced.
These new 4K HDR discs are the best I’ve seen these movies look and sound by several orders of magnitude.
I eagerly await the next Harmy Despecialized! The D+77 and D+80 releases are quite great if you don’t mind less than 100% despecialization (some recomped shots, etc).
Where can I find more information on these releases (D+77, D+80)?
Create an account on forums.thestarwarstrilogy.com. The D+77 and D+80 releases are there, along with several other projects.
Yeah, I’ve created two accounts there but I’ve never gotten my account approved by an admin so I can browse the forums. 😦
Wait a second… Can’t you just use your originaltrilogy.com login? I’m pretty sure that’s what I’ve been using. Haven’t logged out in a while so…
As I recall I learned that here, that you don’t need to create one just use your OT.com one…
I think you do need to create a separate account. Or at least, that’s what I did.
I think he meant, why did they add Yavin 4 to the background of the shot? Didn’t they know that would cause a huge continuity error? Then again, the people who made the Special Editions didn’t seem to pay much attention to continuity.

I’ve skimmed through a few recent videos from Mike Zeroh’s YouTube channel…where is he getting all this info? Stuff like a JJ cut of TROS in a few years. I dont see or hear any scorces…?
I feel like I know the answer to my own question…
You do. He just makes up some random info, gives it an insane clickbaity thumbnail, and calls it a “leak”. Rinse and repeat, every single day, to get maximum advertiser money.
Could turn Coruscant into another moon of Endor, or a neighbouring planet.
I know why you would want that (for RotJ) but it would destroy my suspension of disbelief to think that right next door to the galactic capital is an untouched forest world inhabited by primitive natives.
It breaks my suspension of disbelief that sophisticated robots and strong AI exist in this universe and yet most factions still use organic soldiers and manned fighters in combat.
That’s a problem with a lot of sci-fi. It’s just done to make the battles more personal, it’s not a big deal to me.

He could do that, if it means preserving consistency between sources. I don’t think added grain is much more radical than regraded colors.
I wouldn’t be too discouraged by the flaws in the recent transfer. It’s still the best the trilogy has ever looked on home video. I think it will make a great source for Despecialized 3.0.
We actually know that the scene of Kylo interrogating Chewie was filmed. John Williams recorded a track called “Chewie’s Interrogation” that was obviously intended for that scene.
Based on Anakin Starkiller’s suggestion in the sequel editing thread, here’s an EXTREMELY rough edit of Palpatine’s message added to the destruction of Kijimi:

Interesting ideas, RogueLeader. The only thing I have a problem with is changing the Resistance base to Naboo. I think putting the base on Palpatine’s home world, and one of the most important planets in Star Wars, would be too conspicuous. Other than that, all of these ideas have great potential.
I’m not a big fan of people trying to force Tatooine into every movie, but that might actually be a decent idea. Showing how the government that was created after the fall of the Empire completely missed the point of everything the Rebels fought for, and instead made the galaxy a decadent haven for the rich. It’s not really down my alley, but maybe someone with better editing skills than me could try it out.
There’s also this alternate shot of Resistance fighters approaching Exegol, with a sunset sky and no lightning effects:

All the other shots of Exegol in this trailer have a dark blue sky with lightning effects, so it’s clear by this point they were already starting to change the look of the planet.
I mean, haloing is appropriate, given that she’s an angel. 😉
I think the people who can’t stop complaining about the prequels after 15 years need to grow up. cough cough
I think Hal is justified in wanting to regrade the movie. It has the same problem as Attack of the Clones, where the entire movie has an odd blue-green tint. It is the way it was shown in theaters, but when you look at behind the scenes material the colors are much more natural.
You can always just listen to them on YouTube. There are plenty of people who have uploaded the soundtracks there.
NOW he’s beginning to look like a Supreme Leader. Just make the rest of his costume gold and I’ll be good to go.
And while you’re at it, make his lightsaber gold as well.
Amazing article, 005! I agree with almost every point you made. Hopefully an article on such a high-profile site will lend some kind of legitimacy to our movement.
“Innate talent” =/= command. Rey wasn’t merely “talented”; her actions indicated honing, which any talent requires to achieve its maximum potential. Yet the trilogy depicted no training for her ahead of time. This was a plot hole and indicative of Kathleen Kennedy’s hyper-feminism.
Okay, now you just sound like a whiner. Just because Rey has lots of power without training doesn’t mean that Darth Kathleen was trying to force her evil SJW agenda down your throat. And from what I remember, her powers where not “honed” at all. She almost crashed the Falcon, and nearly destroyed the Jedi temple when she first discovered the dark side. She had lots of power, but little command of those powers. So this just seems like a blatantly wrong interpretation of the movies.
I’m interested in replacing the “Nobody” twist in TLJ with the Palpatine twist, so that I can make a cut of TROS where Rey knows from the beginning. Does anyone know if/how I could adjust the audio of Kylo’s “You are a Palpatine” line so that it doesn’t sound like he’s talking through the mask? Or, would it be better to use a line from the audiobook?
I think this is the wrong approach. I understand wanting to give the trilogy more of a cohesive story, but I think it’s better to just remove the Rey Palpatine twist completely. I liked it more the way it was before, when the twist was that there was no twist.
I don’t have a problem with Ben’s force ghost. It doesn’t look weird to me, and the shot is short enough that any minor errors don’t really bother me. I do want to see a version without Anakin’s ghost, or with Hayden replaced by Sebastian Shaw. Just as a test to see what it would look like.
