Info Wanted: "The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie"... in Cinemascope?
Time

It’s similar to how a lot of these things are done, the original elements are always bound to show more information than what would be seen on a print. On the 4K release of the Charlie Brown Christmas/Halloween/Thanksgiving specials, the widescreen versions show more information on the sides than on the also provided 4x3 versions. Sure the animation in this movie was digital but once again, framing from the elements always differs from what’s seen in the final product theatrically and home video. The extra information on the sides of the trailer wasn’t meant to be seen in the final product.

Help Wanted: 'My Name is Earl' - uncut episodes w/original music
Time

Even shows from the mid-2000s have issues on DVD. The episodes for the show are all uncut on DVD but unfortunately a bunch of song cues originally in the NBC broadcasts were altered. The streaming versions of the show however restore all of the omitted cues. But in sort of a win-lose situation, Fox was very sloppy and instead chose to utilize syndication edits of the episodes that were originally super-sized (the pilot and season 1 finale being examples). To my knowledge the episodes that had a regular runtime are uncut. Fortunately all but one of the originally hour long episodes are preserved. The one that isn’t is in two parts and as a result has about 20 seconds of footage missing. What I’d like to do is if anyone has the right sources, for specifically the affected episodes I’ll create restorations that are more faithful to the original NBC broadcasts. All I need to know are which episodes were originally super-sized, an hour long, and what cues were where initially. Plus I’ll need someone with the right capabilities to send me the streaming and DVD versions of the affected episodes. If anyone is able to please let me know.

I managed to discover earlier TV airings are based off of the theatrical version, however it still has some edits regarding violence and swearing, but that does make somewhat of a preservation easier

It’s a super easy preservation. It’s just the two scenes that were added, IIRC.

actually it was far more than that, a bunch of other shots were added and alternate takes were used, and even some bits are unique to only the theatrical version

'That 70s Show' - with original broadcast music (Released)
Time

I’m sure a lot of already saw my thread on how I’ve restored a bunch of the broadcast music to a lot of episodes of That 70s Show, well since that thread I managed to locate a few more episodes but I’m sadly still missing a third of season 1, all of season 2, and an episode of season 3. I’ve run out of ideas on where to look and idk anyone else who could still have those ancient broadcast rips circulating around for years. I’ve been doing this project for almost 3 years and I still don’t have everything I need to finish. If anyone knows where or has any episodes from the original airings at all, please message me.

UPDATE: As of mid-2020, all of the episodes have been found and restored

Info: Films re-released with alterations

I know Grease has been added already, but there is more to it. The 20th anniversary 1998 5.1 remix of Grease had all of the songs remixed (like adding reverb and background vocals to a couple of the songs) and added a bunch of foley sound effects. This was the only mix available for 20 years. The 40th anniversary 5.1 remix restores the original sound mix and sounds far better than the previous 5.1 mix.

Think I’ve shared this before. Not a comparison of a surround mix to mono but IMO the mono track on the BD of Frankenstein is very flat.

Ah yes I’m quite familiar with this one, I own the 1999 DVD myself and despite being mastered too quiet it sounds far better and more lifelike than the blu-ray
