Beverly Hills, 90210 - with original music (Released)
Time

So I’ve heard rumors that someone on Instagram has been selling these restorations and taking credit for them. These restorations are NOT for sale, they are 100% free and if you see someone attempting to sell them, they are a big time scammer. Please do not fall for it, just contact me instead and I’ll send you the link directly and completely free of charge.

I would love information on getting the full episodes. Please and thank you!

Hey @SpacemanDoug, thank you for the PM invite, but when I try to click on it and accept it I get “Forbidden” message. I think it maybe due to the fact the website says new users aren’t allowed to PM for 7 days after creating an account. If that is the case I’ll have a timer set to check again once I hit 7 days. Didn’t want you to think I was ignoring your PM. Thank you again!

I think I’m having the same issue lol

I sent you a PM

Do we have any project for Brazil (1985)?

tarantino probably has a print, but then you would be whining because its the theatrical cut.

Another thing I found out today is that Universal’s theatrical cut (Blu-ray) has slightly less brightness than Criterion’s Blu.

Proof:

Universal:

Criterion:

UHD:

Also, some caps-a-holic images showing how the 4K and Blu-ray differ: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=19074&d2=1833&c=34

Again, it was a transfer personally supervised by Danny Boyle and he’s not a known revisionist. The old masters were DVD era neutral and were clearly not theatrically accurate. Teal always existed as a color and idk why people are always so insistent that DVD era neutral and magenta pushes are theatrically accurate when they’re clearly not. The color timing on Trainspotting looks so much better than the various old masters.

midnight cowboy was tealed to death, but it actually very close to the og trailer

Here’s an excerpt from Criterion’s booklet regarding their restoration of Midnight Cowboy:

“A 35mm theatrical print made for the 2004 twenty-fifth anniversary of the film – supervised by director John Schlesinger, producer Jerome Hellman, and cinematographer Adam Holender – was referenced for color correction.”

Here we go again with the teal and orange accusations. Teal existed in 1985 and the old masters are magenta tinted. People only hate the look of teal and orange because it was so popular in the late 2000s and are used to the old magenta tinted masters and thinking they’re correct.

No one has said this, only that Criterion went full-retard on this 4K remaster. Instead of fine-tuning the picture, it looks like this:

UHD:

Blu-ray:

UHD: https://i.slow.pics/Z8kHLrDB.png
Blu-ray: https://i.slow.pics/SxQKLKVf.png

++++++

UHD: https://i.postimg.cc/cx8sY8Mm/UHD-DELES1.jpg
Blu-ray: https://i.postimg.cc/D2Nv8cs0/BD-TEA1.jpg

The only thing you’ve proved here is that Brazil’s 4K color timing has a much more photochemical look to it compared to the old BD master which is another DVD era neutralized master with no care put into the color timing whatsoever. Teal and orange existed in 1985, the BD is far from theatrically accurate.

'Dirty Harry' - with original mono mix (see kchrules' posts) (Released)

Dirty Harry is going to have the mono included on the upcoming 4K

fidelity wise it will probably suck compared to VHS/LD.

you don’t really know that, because the LD was an analog track with typical shortcomings (and it very well could’ve used an optical element as base) and this 4K would clearly be from lower generation elements so it would still likely have improvements, Warner would REALLY have to screw up the mastering for it to sound worse than a 42 year old analog laserdisc

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: original broadcast reconstruction project

I know the original broadcast version of Series 6 finale (eps 21 and 22) was 2 episodes together as a “film”, I should have it recorded on vhs and all intro credits are at front, nothing for second half. The vhs release for season 1 episodes 1-6 (https://buffy.fandom.com/wiki/The_Slayer_Pack) I believe has the 90 minute version with no credits on Harvest episode. I also have this series of PAL release (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Complete-Seasons/dp/B005MX6Y6E)

If you have the uncut version of the season 6 finale that’d be fantastic

LOST (2004-2010) -- ORIGINAL BROADCAST RESTORATION PROJECT (ON HOLD)

Also, I noticed that you made no mention of the LOST Pilot episode, which also originally aired as a two-hour “movie” version… Does a proper version of this already exist somewhere in 1080p?

Incorrect actually, the movie version of the pilot never made it to broadcast, it originally aired in two parts and has always been that way since

Friday Night Lights: NBC captures for seasons 1 and 2
Time

Anyone have captures of the original NBC broadcasts for the first two seasons of this show? I already have the extended 101 Network captures for seasons 3-5 and was hoping I could get the first two seasons from the NBC run as well. Mostly because I want to make sure there are no music edits on the DVD and BD releases.

Please PM me if you have them.

Info: Mono soundtracks that were butchered with 5.1 remixes in later releases
Time

The Decimator said:

Bruce Lee’s classic film Enter the Dragon is only available on DVD and Blu-Ray as part of an “extended version”. This version of the movie has different music cues in some scenes and most of the sound effects have been replaced.

The 4K release from last year that Warner Bros. themselves released has the original mono and remix options for both cuts and apparently they tinkered with the remix to more resemble the original

One thing I will say is while it’s a shame the episodes aren’t completely uncensored (not Paramount+'s fault), they’re at least a lot better than the bastardized DVD episodes

MTV in general bastardized their catalog considering the state of the original Jackass series on Paramount+

Yeah, we are still discovering changes made to the Mike Judge Collection DVDs even in recent months. Part of it is revisionism, and part of it is going back to lower gen masters for that set (like Citizen Butt-Head, for example came out less censored). But their new releases just grab a random tape for an episode, clearly. Beware of the Butt is fully uncensored, and that tape was pulled from rotation after like two days in 1993.

Just to be clear, though, this project is fully uncensored.

I believe some of the censorships are permanent since apparently some episodes had their actual masters altered

It’s hard to say other than speculation. In some cases, probably. In other cases, like Citizen Butt-Head, clearly the master was not altered.

Doesn’t matter for the new streaming masters though, because those are all from broadcast tapes and not the upstream masters. Which is why we can have things like the Beware of the Butt “F UCKER” scene even though it only aired around twice in May 1993, and always censored after that. Or the voiceover on Give Blood’s credits, which was changed, etc.

I remember reading somewhere that Mike Judge once said he doesn’t even know if the early episodes in some cases even exist in their original form by now
