I thought I’d post a link to my new dumb (but topical) video.
I thought I’d post a link to my new dumb (but topical) video.
For those that would like a link, I have a WIP version uploaded now!
PM me! 😄
Minor bump… Just realised I had forgotten to mention this earlier in regards to your Palpatine’s office video, but I do really enjoy getting to hear fan-editors break down problematic scenes and explain their reasons for changes etc… I dunno, I guess especially with the prequels, learning someone else’s take on things that don’t work and how to address it really helps me approach my own attempts to edit with a different mindset.
So by all means, if you’re planning on doing more videos like this, I’d very much be interested! 😉
Probably part of the reason I’ve always been a sucker for the behind the scenes content of films more so than the actual film is just because I love learning about the hidden creative process and mentality behind things that isn’t always so obvious onscreen.
Your commentary on how you felt watching all of this unfold in cinemas is great as well! 😄
I’ve always loved reading members of this site’s stories about experiencing the prequels for the first time and I still continue to get a laugh out of it. 😆
I totally forgot to respond to this! Thank you so much for the kind words Chase Adams! I certainly enjoyed making the Palpatines Office video because I did finally get to put some thoughts out there that I’d had for years! I’m glad it has been of at least some benefit to you!
I am considering doing some sort of commentary track for the workprint…so I can put more of my thoughts out there as well as explain some of my unfinished ideas you’ll end up seeing. 😉
Hey everyone
Just droppin’ a link for a fun little thing I whipped up these last couple of days:
https://youtu.be/OK9zXs7qMJI
ALSO, the news you didn’t want to hear (but might’ve began to wonder about):
I’ve pretty much given up on finishing my edit. I think I started this project with delusions of grandeur. There are certain things I’ve wanted to pull off and I just haven’t come up with decent solutions. I just don’t have the patience to do all the things I want to, nor the experience-…nor the software.
I do intent to finish a workprint because I don’t want to disappoint those who have looked forward to it. But I want to warn you, you will find sections of it disappointing because I just haven’t completed a lot of the things I started.
What a fun way to end a message! 😛
You got it!
Well, you will once it’s done 😉
@Chase Adams, I still appreciate your comments!
Thank you for the kind words, everyone! I really truly appreciate it!
I always wondered if Anakin would have been a stronger character if he just spoke LESS in AOTC, that shot pretty much nails that!
Yeah, I would say he speaks quite a bit less in my version. There are just too many angry/hateful/whiney comments. Wherever I can, I’ve tried to rework the dialogue…but a lot of the time his face says “I’m pissed” so it has to be cut.
The cut after Mace says “we’re keepers of the peace, not soldiers” I found a tiny bit jarring for some reason. Maybe have the hologram noise start a sec before the cut? Just an idea.
Thank you for this. I wondered about that instance myself. I tried out your suggestion and, yep, I think that did the trick! Thanks for the idea!
By the way, I’m working my way towards a VERY rough workprint. I believe EVERY scene in the film has been reworked to some degree. There will also be some half-baked ideas left in…incomplete scenes/visual fx/sound fx/music…scenes that are almost like an animatic. Why? Well, I’m hoping for specific feedback- … I don’t want to invest all my time and energy into some of these scenes if it’s not working properly. It’ll still be a hot second before it’s ready but it’s getting there! 😉
As long as everyone’s ok with it, I’m gonna include everyone who’s commented here in the thread in the credits.
testing out EbSynth:
I have tried to deepfake fake Wedge in the ANH briefing scene before at Tobar’s suggestion, but never got a very good result from it. I’ll give it another shot when I one day get a new GPU (assuming the prices ever drop to reasonable levels again…) and can experiment with some of the newer model architectures in DeepFaceLab.
Holy crap! That’s looking really good!
Thanks, yeah i had forgotten 😀
Happy Friday everyone!
Here’s another video from the upcoming edit. I share my comments on the Palpatine office scene, show you my edit, then comment some more on what I did to accomplish it.
Not only do I welcome feedback on the clip, I’d like to know if this format is something any of you enjoy.
BUT for those who don’t want to sit through my ramblings and just watch the clip, skip to around 6:44
I feel very honored to be listed in the credits! I haven’t been very active on the forums- mainly because I don’t like taking the time to type. But I have followed a lot of this edit because DAMN, the work you’ve done here is amazing! I’m in awe of the creative ideas you’ve been able to implement! You’ve been able to achieve huge and also subtle changes that, if someone had only seen the film once or twice, might not be able to figure out what you’ve done. I certainly look forward to your version of TLJ!
P.S. I would also like a link to the latest version 😉
Are you going to redub Cleigg, Owen, and Beru so it seems like Anakin lived with them before becoming a Jedi? Maybe you could have a deepfake flashback of Anakin leaving with Obi Wan?
That’s an interesting idea. I can tell you there will be no flashbacks in my edit. I’m not the biggest fan of those. Even when well done.
I’ve always enjoyed the performance from the actor playing Cleigg…especially his voice. But if there’s something else i can set up by doing this…hmm…I’ll have to ponder this.
Anyone got ideas on this scene and what should’ve been setup?
I haven’t given much thought about their introductions…other than it’s pretty lackluster. If i had a way to do it, I’d cut Beru entirely out of the film. She does nothing but bring unnecessary blue milk to the table.
😄
If you go to the teaser, the link to watch is in the description:
Theres a few interesting ideas in the edit. I don’t remember everything. It does have a new intro using TPM footage. New Jango Fett footage from video game commercial? New voice for Watto which is very nicely done. Dooku with a blue lightsaber. Anakin basically brings Padme back from the dead. New score for the ending.
I liked some of the ideas here. The new Jango footage didn’t fit in. I appreciated the effort all of it took. But imo there aren’t enough changes to the film.😉
Dang i feel old.
This is great! Thank you for so much hard work!
Question: Am I missing something? Anakin’s eyebrows being removed was a 2011 change, right? Not an 04 change?
While in the midst of editing AOTC, I began to see some things here and there that I’d never seen before. Maybe you haven’t seen them either. 😉
P.S. Oh yeah, this time you have to look at my face. I’m sorry in advance. 😛
JEDDIT: Oh and I got my pc worked on…and got a new hard drive. Working good as new!
Here’s the Kylo Deleted Scene integrated into my edit in what I’m hoping is a final form:
Password: fanedit
If this is acceptable there’s just those couple of shots near the end of the film to complete (as well as any Restructured changes I missed)!
This is great! Extremely well done!
Me too please! I’m very interesed in moving the deleted obiwan/droid scene to kamino…might have to use a version of this in my own edit. 😉
Deepfake monkey eyed TESB Palpatine into RotJ with an AI or impressionist Clive Revill voice.
To be honest, I’d like to see this. Not that I’d want to replace the original…
Testing the waters with an early deepfake. Full disclosure: I screwed up one of the steps and haven’t gone back to fix it…but still it’s not quite there anyways.
I chose this shot for a couple of reasons:
For those interested, I just went step-by-step with this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAFBgOUFLpA
P.S. It looks like I’m gonna have to break down and buy another pc. The one I’ve been using was already used and had several issues…and now I’ve got the blue screen of death and have tried everything to get it to boot up with no success. I’m waiting for some additional funds that should be on the way…then I can determine how much I’m gonna spend on a new pc. So it might be a hot second before I’m able to give another real update.
This is looking nice! What software are you using to colorize with?
This, to me, is probably the best deleted/extended/alternate/whatever scene in all of the ROTJ material we’ve seen.
Thanks, guys, for the interest in a workprint. When i have one ready, I’ll post an update for sure. But it’ll still be quite a while before one is ready!😆
Hey, thank you MisterBenja!
Your observation on the "did you hear what they said was right on. And something about it has just started feeling off to me.
Wait- the way you cut it sounds like the theatrical cut…or am i misunderstanding?
What I’m looking at doing now is to keep everything as i have it but revert the dialogue back to “don’t worry we have R2 with us”.
As far as a workprint: it’s funny- i originally didn’t want to release one mainly because i have a lot of ideas that (if i can pull them off) i don’t want them to get out there until it’s completed. However, because some of my ideas are a little “out there” and/or extremely hard to pull off, i think i will indeed release a workprint because i have a feeling I’ll need lots of feedback in order to get everything working! Lol Plus, if there’s enough interest in this edit, maybe i can get some help from others on some of my crazy ideas.
Hey, you know what would be awesome and extremely helpful? Is for those watching the workprint to record there reactions. Like a director at an early screening, ya know? Now, i can certainly understand if no one wants to put their face out there for all to see…but something to think about!😁
But that’s so fitting!
