Hello all!
There have been several people who have asked me about trying out AI for Anakin’s voice in my edit. Well, I’ve just posted a test clip here:
It doesn’t sound 100% like Hayden…but I personally think it’s getting fairly close. I’ve also posted a poll in case you wanna vote on the quality of the voice. Of course, you can always sound off here too! But a lot of the discourse is on my channel.
Thanks!
I have to admit, for some reason I haven’t been checking your posts regularly, but man, I am IMPRESSED by some of the stuff you’ve done. You have been doing little things that I don’t think most editors have really considered, like changing Padmé’s expression in one seen, or create artificial depth of field in the shots of Geonosians to make it feel more real and to hide some of that early 2000’s CGI.
I may have overlooked some of your plans for the edit, but have you considered using voice AI to change Anakin’s dialogue, rather than totally redub him? I feel like total character redubs tend to break the illusion of fan edits, if you get what I mean.
But for real, you’re doing some pretty cool stuff with AOTC!
I somehow missed your post, RogueLeader! Thanks so much! I’m just trying things I’ve wanted to see so I’m glad others are enjoying it as well!
As far as AI voices, I’ve been testing it out in other videos. I’ve posted a few here and there. I did an early test of Anakin and it ended up sounding nothing like him so I used it as Owen Lars!😄
But I may try Anakin again. It can sometimes sound great but typically there are some terrible line reads as well so you have to try several iterations to get it closer to what you want.
I just put up another video of the deleted Padme’s Parents House scene:
If you wanna just see the scene itself, skip to around 12:26.
👍
A few short videos here…
“Geonosis Arena Shots”
Here I’ve altered a few shots to see if I can hide some of the dated CGI-ness:
“face restoration algorithm FIXES deleted Palpatine footage?”
In this video I’m trying a different way of upscaling SD footage (as opposed to using Topaz)
“ship fly by test”
This is an attempt at making a particular CGI shot look more like it was actually filmed as a model:
Anakin is knighted in the middle of AOTC when the Jedi give him the assignment to look over Padme.
This gives Anakin a more mature, independent role through more of the trilogy, so you don’t have to wait until episode 3 for him to not be such an underling anymore. It might also make Obi-Wan’s concerns that Anakin isn’t ready more sympathetic. I think a major problem with AOTC is that you don’t really emotionally connect to either Anakin or Obi-Wan, our two protagonists, and by doing this is makes the audience feel like Obi-Wan has more of a point.
The only issue is it’d require removing the padawan braid from a lot of shots which would be extremely tedious and painful.
I’m attempting something like this, only Anakin would be knighted at the end of the film.
I’m seeing a 40th anniversary screening with some family and friends on Saturday. The theatrical cut would be preferable of course, but I’m just happy to see a good Star Wars film in theaters haha.
Was it ever clarified why Empire’s 40th anniversary screenings used the 2011 Blu-ray rather than the more recent 2019 transfer? Hopefully that won’t be the same case here…
Yes, I was just wondering this. Once you see it, could you let us know which version it is?
What exactly is a Live to Picture audio track?
Jedi Council Marching Orders video:
In this video, I talk about what I’ve done to the scene in the Jedi temple where the Jedi Council give marching orders to Anakin and Obi-Wan.😁
Allow me to insert myself into the discussion with another shameless plug that very much addresses the topic of this thread:
Hopefully one can enjoy this whether they like the sequel trilogy or not.

This also reminds me, I wonder how easy it would be to remove JEJ’s own breathing (not Vader’s) in the Death Star briefing room scene:
“Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed (breathe) the ability to destroy a planet (breathe) is insignificant (breathe) next to the power of the force.”
OK, so I tried it myself and I think it works pretty well.
Granted, I “sweetened” it a little bit- or tried to. Anyways, it might help you decide if you want to try it or not in your version.

Adywan, you may have come across this already but Adobe Enhance Speech is in beta right now:
https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance#I used it here on some clips from ANH and it’s pretty amazing:
https://youtu.be/K3VBE5hMVu0It’s not flawless. And I’m sure you can mix the vocals into your edit better than I did in my clips. But I thought you might want to consider using this for certain parts in ANH:HD.
I have tested out some of these AI programs for vocals, including the Adobe one. It a long way off being usable. All the processed stuff sounds artificial. It changes their voice for one. And a lot of the time they end up sounding like they have a severely blocked nose. Then they tend to alter words. I tested the adobe on with the cam SW Celebration footage of the deleted death star conference scene where they mention “Sith” for the first time. It was terrible. It altered so much of the dialogue. For instance, and i still have the audio clip, the line “until this battle station is fully operational, we are vulnerable” was changed to " until this battle station is fully operation, we are buggerable". Well that really changes the meaning of that scene 😉 These AI programs can be useful for separating music from vocals sometimes, but using them to enhance the dialogue is just not viable yet.
Well, that’s too bad it’s not going to work out. I can certainly see where you’re coming from. Thanks for getting back to me!
I had the same idea to test it out on that “sith” line from ANH…but then forgot to do it!😄
Just wanted to chime in and say things are looking great! The recovery in detail is absolutely fabulous!
Out of curiosity, have you been using any AI tech to help out in your edit?
Bingowings! I think i knew that was you on YT a while back…but i forgot!😝
Thank you so much for your thoughts/comments! I really do like that idea of Beru being Anakin’s sister…maybe there IS a way to make that work…I’ll be thinking about that!
Is that JK Simmons laughing at the beginning of the video? 😛 A part of me thinks that you should make a duet of your homestead song with Jar jar, who won’t stop singing with improper english. 🤣
When it comes to your edits, I like the fact that Anakin knows Owen. I think I would preferably also cut Cliegg’s introduction, because I guess it would make sense that they’ve already met. Perhaps AI could make him say “Hello, son” or just “son” since I think he later says “Your mother’s dead, son”. Then he would still say that they’ve got a lot to talk about. I’m also a big fan of cutting the bar scene with Zam. Before I saw that clip, I don’t think it occured to me that it was even possible! 😉
You mean sound effect with my logo? ha ha no…it’s some anime sound effect I found.
I hadn’t thought about changing any of Cliegg’s lines…hmmm…perhaps…
Someone in my comments pointed out that if they are actually brothers, Owen’s last name would be Skywalker and not Lars (which, of course, it is in ANH). I felt quite stupid after that was pointed out! lol
So, I’m thinking I might rework Anakin’s dialogue to mention his cousin Owen. That would work, right? Cousins?
And yeah, the cutting of the bar scene: I still think it’s my favorite cut I discovered while playing around in editing.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m honored to be the first thread you posted in here!😁
Holy crap! You’ve convinced me! Someone should show this to EC Henry. Didn’t he use to be a member here under another name?
Glad you’re here! Can’t wait for the edit!
So in the past, I ripped AOTC from my blu-ray, used handbrake, and through some finagling, got it to import all the channels separately into Davinci Resolve. I’ve wanted to do the same with the other prequels.
So, as far as I can tell, I’ve done everything exactly the same way - the video imports fine, but no audio.
I go to Clip Attributes and there’s nothing! No audio available. But I know for a fact the audio IS there!
Anyone got any ideas as to why?
Or is there some software where I can rip just the audio, that way, I could just sync it with the video in Davinci?
I’ve been playing around with the scene where Anakin and Padme return to Tatooine:
shameless plug.
that is all.

Ok, yes, it’s not a deepfake…but it is AI. And it’s pretty amazing.
Adobe has Enhance Speech (in beta). Try it out now:
https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance#Here’s a video I made with some examples from ANH:
https://youtu.be/K3VBE5hMVu0That’s really cool. Are you planning an edit with new enhanced audio?
Thanks! No, I’m not planning a ANH edit…I guess I’d like too…but I’d have to do too many fx shots that I don’t know how to do! 😆
@adywan SomethingStarWarsRelated just found a program you might want to use for your original trilogy edit. used in the right way it’s a game changer not just for Star Wars but for a lot of old movies shows cartoons etc. it’s wild https://youtu.be/K3VBE5hMVu0
You must’ve missed my post above yours.😄 But thanks for the shoutout!
Wow! That’s amazing stuff. I wonder how that could help with Vader’s lines in ANH to making him sound more like the other OT films. If Ady’s up for it I could definitely see the “Mix of both” being used to help with some of the on-set lines that are rather lacking in crispness.
Yeah, Vader was interesting. I did help and it also didn’t. It actually removed a bit of whatever filters they use on James Earl Jones’ voice. It still might be usable to a degree. It would probably have to be lower in the mix.
It’s interesting because it almost completely eliminated the filter on Leia’s hologram dialogue!
Thanks!
Yes, the mix is simply playing both tracks at the same time. I’ve lowered the original some and the enhanced version is more prominent.
I would think one would have to adjust it on a case by case basis.
Completely agree. It would be awful applied the same equally to all dialogue.
ANH absolutely suffers the most in this aspect which is why it came to mind first.
