STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

This also reminds me, I wonder how easy it would be to remove JEJ’s own breathing (not Vader’s) in the Death Star briefing room scene:

“Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed (breathe) the ability to destroy a planet (breathe) is insignificant (breathe) next to the power of the force.”

Adywan, you may have come across this already but Adobe Enhance Speech is in beta right now:
https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance#

I used it here on some clips from ANH and it’s pretty amazing:
https://youtu.be/K3VBE5hMVu0

It’s not flawless. And I’m sure you can mix the vocals into your edit better than I did in my clips. But I thought you might want to consider using this for certain parts in ANH:HD.

I have tested out some of these AI programs for vocals, including the Adobe one. It a long way off being usable. All the processed stuff sounds artificial. It changes their voice for one. And a lot of the time they end up sounding like they have a severely blocked nose. Then they tend to alter words. I tested the adobe on with the cam SW Celebration footage of the deleted death star conference scene where they mention “Sith” for the first time. It was terrible. It altered so much of the dialogue. For instance, and i still have the audio clip, the line “until this battle station is fully operational, we are vulnerable” was changed to " until this battle station is fully operation, we are buggerable". Well that really changes the meaning of that scene 😉 These AI programs can be useful for separating music from vocals sometimes, but using them to enhance the dialogue is just not viable yet.

Well, that’s too bad it’s not going to work out. I can certainly see where you’re coming from. Thanks for getting back to me!
I had the same idea to test it out on that “sith” line from ANH…but then forgot to do it!😄

Just wanted to chime in and say things are looking great! The recovery in detail is absolutely fabulous!

Out of curiosity, have you been using any AI tech to help out in your edit?

Is that JK Simmons laughing at the beginning of the video? 😛 A part of me thinks that you should make a duet of your homestead song with Jar jar, who won’t stop singing with improper english. 🤣

When it comes to your edits, I like the fact that Anakin knows Owen. I think I would preferably also cut Cliegg’s introduction, because I guess it would make sense that they’ve already met. Perhaps AI could make him say “Hello, son” or just “son” since I think he later says “Your mother’s dead, son”. Then he would still say that they’ve got a lot to talk about. I’m also a big fan of cutting the bar scene with Zam. Before I saw that clip, I don’t think it occured to me that it was even possible! 😉

You mean sound effect with my logo? ha ha no…it’s some anime sound effect I found.
I hadn’t thought about changing any of Cliegg’s lines…hmmm…perhaps…

Someone in my comments pointed out that if they are actually brothers, Owen’s last name would be Skywalker and not Lars (which, of course, it is in ANH). I felt quite stupid after that was pointed out! lol
So, I’m thinking I might rework Anakin’s dialogue to mention his cousin Owen. That would work, right? Cousins?

And yeah, the cutting of the bar scene: I still think it’s my favorite cut I discovered while playing around in editing.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m honored to be the first thread you posted in here!😁

audio question for those who use Davinci Resolve...
Time

So in the past, I ripped AOTC from my blu-ray, used handbrake, and through some finagling, got it to import all the channels separately into Davinci Resolve. I’ve wanted to do the same with the other prequels.
So, as far as I can tell, I’ve done everything exactly the same way - the video imports fine, but no audio.
I go to Clip Attributes and there’s nothing! No audio available. But I know for a fact the audio IS there!
Anyone got any ideas as to why?
Or is there some software where I can rip just the audio, that way, I could just sync it with the video in Davinci?

Ok, yes, it’s not a deepfake…but it is AI. And it’s pretty amazing.

Adobe has Enhance Speech (in beta). Try it out now:

Here’s a video I made with some examples from ANH:

That’s really cool. Are you planning an edit with new enhanced audio?

Thanks! No, I’m not planning a ANH edit…I guess I’d like too…but I’d have to do too many fx shots that I don’t know how to do! 😆

@adywan SomethingStarWarsRelated just found a program you might want to use for your original trilogy edit. used in the right way it’s a game changer not just for Star Wars but for a lot of old movies shows cartoons etc. it’s wild https://youtu.be/K3VBE5hMVu0

You must’ve missed my post above yours.😄 But thanks for the shoutout!

Wow! That’s amazing stuff. I wonder how that could help with Vader’s lines in ANH to making him sound more like the other OT films. If Ady’s up for it I could definitely see the “Mix of both” being used to help with some of the on-set lines that are rather lacking in crispness.

Yeah, Vader was interesting. I did help and it also didn’t. It actually removed a bit of whatever filters they use on James Earl Jones’ voice. It still might be usable to a degree. It would probably have to be lower in the mix.

It’s interesting because it almost completely eliminated the filter on Leia’s hologram dialogue!

Just throwing this deepfake I made of Wedge for fun:

https://streamable.com/75hzbw

This was made using a program called Swapface. You upload the video (obviously) and then a SINGLE image of the person you want to deepfake. And it does it all…very quickly actually.

It obviously isn’t quite good enough to be used in an edit. It’s funny that it worked as well as it did because I used a tiny black and white image of Denis Lawson.

Even if someone could make a good deepfake for Wedge in this scene, I’m not sure it would still work because of the actors head shape? It’s just too off imo.

Download this now if you want it, cuz it expires tomorrow.

NEW COMPARISON VIDEO … See how many changes you can spot. I’ll put together an illustrated list of changes early next week so you can check if you spotted them all

Liking the Alternate angle of Obi-wan on the Chasm Matte very clever. I think it could be good to splice back to the closeup angle though just before he turns the apparatus on the tractor beam controls for Visual orientation.

I agree, however, I’m wondering if that’s too much cutting between shots that it would be distracting?

Oh, Man! That last one sounds on point. What technique are you using for lipsync?

I was just about to ask the same thing!

I’m using the highly scientific method of looking to see what mouth movements in the shot match the ones being spoken, then duplicating them and moving them to the correct place. Then I adjust their placement on his face so they fit over the top of the prior mouth movements and feather them into his features. It’s all quite crude, and I can do it right from Premiere most of the time. All a lot of simple tricks and nonsense 😉

Nice! I’m attempting the same thing here and there for my edit. I was hoping you’d have some magic software for me to use! 😄

I thought this was an improvement over the first video, with the only complaint being that he was a bit too flippant about Lucas adding and then removing Luke’s scream. (However, this again would’ve been a great time to note that according to Matthew Wood, it was an error that Lucas never approved of in the first place and that Ben Burtt put it in himself and must’ve forgotten to ask.)

According to Matthew Wood, the scream was added at George’s request for the '97 Special edition. It was when it came around to doing the mix for the 2004 DVD’s that Mathew , who hated the scream, removed the sound effect and George didn’t notice it had gone, so it stayed that way.

I didn’t know any of this was documented. Do you happen to remember where, Adywan? That scream is still burned into my brain.😑

An updated version of a shot of Padme looking worried:

https://youtu.be/C681fIdkaXw

My original version was done in EbSynth and it just didn’t look right…I ended up having to adjust it in Davinci Resolve and I just couldn’t pull it off to my liking.

For the new version, I was able to apply a photoshopped image to the surface tracker (in Davinci Resolve) and it turned out quite a bit better.

Per the WordPress site,
“Remove Yub Nub & Victory Celebration”

That must have been written waaaay back, during the briefest of times i was thinking of ending it on the funeral pyre. The ending is going to be pretty much the theatrical ending. NO planets, no Hayden, no Victory Celebration. I hate the SE planet celebrations and victory celebration music. Victory celebration sounds so out of place musically. Williams just basically ripped off the original animatic guide track ( and didn’t even bother to try and hide the fact) and it sounds so out of place in the OT. The guide track was for a Native American mini series and you can tell it still has that theme.

The original animatic guide track?

Yep. Here:
