I can't remember who first mentioned it here but there was a suggestion of the Tantive IV [or whatever it was in rots] going to Dagobah and the Skywalker twins being born there.

I'd much rather have Yoda simply stay behind on the planet after this. I think it's simpler than having him travel there solo.

I like it too but I never saw a reason as to why they had to land there. Yoda going into hiding makes sense; Organa, Obiwan, and Yoda meeting together one last time makes sense. But why Dagobah? Just because Yoda is there in ESB? Seems rather circular.

Perhaps Yoda should just disappear? It's sadder and more appropriate to have him leave without a real plan, with just the force to guide him.

As it is now, the PT is using the OT as a way to pad out the story. It needs to be less of a grocery list and more of a mystery.

I do appreciate this point of view too. My main reason for suggesting Dagobah (as if you couldn't tell) is Luke's line in ESB.  ;)

OK, my take on Yoda and dagobah.

I don't believe we ever need to show Yoda landing on dagobah. That way it is a mystery. I mean, at the end of ANH are we shown rebels arriving on Hoth? No. At the end of ESB are we shown Luke arriving on Tatooine? No. Why bother? Everything that needs explaining is explained it each movie. We need some mystery between each movie!

However, I DO believe having Yoda and Bail hanging out there, then the twins being born there makes perfect sense. Luke's line "There's something familar about this place" would finally make sense! And I feel it should go *something* like this:

http://www.youtube.com/user/SSWR1#p/u/18/1uk8pB0nnu0

After this scene we really don't have to explain where Yoda goes...nor Obi-Wan! :D

OK here we go...

SOTDS is alot of fun! There. That is all. I'm done.

Just kidding.  ;)

OK, I'm gonna be kind of all over the place:

Editing: I personally think the first few scenes up until the Jedi council scene is the tightest as far as editing goes. Not to say it was terrible after that. But I was really invested up until that point. After the nightclub scene the characters wander around for a while before they start doing things again (the investigation and Anakin/Padme leave). I would think Padme's attempted assisination should put things into motion alot quicker...of course Lucas's version was even slower! lol :D

I should mention that the first few lines in Palps office really surprised me. I liked how you kept Padme out of the Dooku conversation. "I think Count Dooku was behind it." blech! ;) Although I don't care for the way the entire scene was flipped around horizonatlly. Everyone looks...off...for lack of a better word.

Use of deleted scenes: Hmm...well, the thing is...I just don't think they do much for the movie. The senate scene does help explain a bit more of what's going on. And of course the other scenes helps flesh out Padmes character a bit more. But they don't further the story. IMHO.

Yoda: I know what you were going for with the shots of Yoda where the frames per second were played with...but I would say get rid of it. If it can't be done for all of his shots...it just looks weird. Plus it looks more like stop motion than Oz performing him. Too bad though...I loved the idea...just not so much the execution.

The color "correction" (what is the correct word?) works in some of the scenes...I particularly liked the purple-ish look of the droid factory. But on the whole I'm not so sure...obviously *something* needs to be done to alot of the scenes within the film...then again I am no color expert... :)

Voices: Anakin's voice is not horrible...although I think I would try to find someone who has the Vader accent (is it british?). Lama Su is great. Jar Jar: I really like the idea...but the character mumbled a bit...I had a hard time understanding what he said. Marcus Fett...eh. Clone Troopers...I'll have to go back and watch it again but I liked them alright. I think you were right to redub these particular characters...but I think making it really work comes down to the sound mix.

I really loved all of the new character interaction you've added/changed in the film. Anakin now behaves more like a real person! Yay! Lama Su's new dialouge and interaction with Obi-Wan is wonderful...I'm amazed at how much you were able to change in those few scenes he was in...very much improved!

The sound mix: Yes, it needs the most work. When it's completed, it will work sooo much better. I thought that I should mention that whenever you rearranged any of the dialouge to different places within the film I couldn't hear any music bleed through the voices...how did you do that? Very nice! :D

The whole mother thing: I love how you explained WHY the Jedi haven't done anything to help Anakins mother. That was simply great!

Addition of other movie footage: When other movie clips would come onto the screen it felt like I was watching an animatic or a workprint. This not only includes the battle at the end but also the nightclub scene. It just doesn't match the look of the rest of the movie. It pulled me out of the movie...especially the ID4 footage. Which goes into my next thought:

After effects would be a VERY valuable thing for this edit. So many things in this edit come so so so very very close to working really really really well...but without some software like after effects...well, it does indeed feel like an animatic of workprint. And I'm not just talking about the battle footage where it would come in handy. Even some scenes where the dialouge has been moved around or added/changed. One scene that came to my mind was where Padme and Anakin are on that ship headed for Naboo. There is a shot where Padmes footage was reversed which I *think* could be smoothed out using after effects. And another shot of Padme with the back of Anakins head where he begins to speak but nothing comes out. Something like after effects would help becuase you could isolate his head and keep it stable...becuase it does distract the eye. There are a few instances like that through out the movie.

I really hope I don't sound too harsh...I mean, I myself am known for my rough videos...and I really did enjoy this movie...there are so many things to enjoy...the new dialouge that helps explain things that needed explaining...things are more simplfied...the plot is not so sloppy anymore...the characters are more defined, more believable, and likable...the music is moving...the editing is much tighter...great GREAT stuff here, folks!

I hope everyone gets to see this real soon!

I am gonna sit and watch this again soon so I might have a few more things to point out...  :D

Trooperman, if there is anything you might like me to comment on spefically...like a certain scene you thought really worked well or didn't, I'll be glad to comment. Just let me know. I know what it's like to edit something and then have noone comment on that specific something.

After the past couple of crazy days here on the forum I think we need something to laugh at...it's movie mashup time!

http://www.youtube.com/user/SSWR1#p/a/u/0/9jPowDz3pQs

As I said at YT, that's one of the best videos I've watched in a long time, and I really mean it! Amazing work, fella! :D

I did a Star Wars/Napoleon Dynamite mash-up, too, but it pales in comparison to yours (but I still get a kick out of it):

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/Ripplin/falconsledge.jpg

I bet you could do a video version of it...WINK WINK! ;)

 Nice! lol

Yeah it took me a while to figure out who would play who in the video...I had thought that Han would've been a good uncle rico...but it came down to Vader being Napoleon. so i just had to ask who Vader interacted with in the OT and went from there...

Thanks again! :D

I have to disagree with everyone about the stormtrooper chatter. Even tho it wasnt the best technically it was one of my favorite changes. I did notice the music was mixed very low on a lot of parts tho. Also, I'd pitch up Anakin's VO. He sounds just a little too manly, I feel he should retain Luke's awkward man-boyishness. Also I noticed prevalent fade in fade outs, which goes against Star Wars editing conventions.

'Prevalent' is the correct word (it was only used, what, twice?). Because the fading out technique was used in ANH. As the droids follow Luke into the garage.

I got to watch it last night and really really enjoyed it! I thought i'd comment on the fades because that didn't actually bother me...it felt very natural...like out of the OT...i feel Lucas should have used it at times in the PT...not just limiting himself to wipes only. Also I would've like Lucas to use more hard cuts...why so many wipes?

I'm gonna write up a full review soon....just thought i'd throw that in there.  ;)

are you going to attempt to add the shipyard/star destoryer stuff in the background?

Well here is the first try after a long time.

Nothing to fancy like Ryan church's concept but it holds i think.

Yeah yeah! I like this alot. It actually makes me think of when they mention a space station in ANH....I wonder why we never saw one in the PT....anyways....very good pic! Is that Coruscant? That would probably make sense...Keep up the good work! :D

I love the SE ending to ROTJ, including the music (but I don't mind that Adywan is changing it). But this is an amazing mockup!

Lando's escape is even more dramatic, I actually wondered whether he was going to make it, great use of the "That was too close!" And I liked having the additional shot of Akbar relieved that the battle is won.

I would have preferred if the sending off was done by Mon Mothma, or Leia, Akbar there feels a little wierd.

Having the fleet breakup is a great idea, their missions is done, but I also think it went on too long.

I think the celebrations should have been used at the end, maybe inserting the Falcon flying overheard into the Coruscant celebration: now the people of the galaxy have heard the good news. It would be nice if we could get a shot of Leia in the Senate, but that might be a bit much.

The thing that bugs me the most is having Han's line be right before the credits. In the end of a Star Wars film the last minute or two is just music, no dialog, before we iris in to the credits.

Another idea building on this: the last shots are of the Coruscant celebration, but seen by Luke and Leia from a balcony on Coruscant, then the Jedi ghosts (rather than earlier on Endor), Leia smiles, Luke joins her, we see the ghosts one final time and iris in.

One small thing, maybe for the wishlist, I always thought Niem Numb was hobbit sized, but anyway seeing him be human-sized really ruins the illusion that he's an alien. Would it be possible to resize him in the Endor celebration?

Thanks for the great words, Angel Blue01!

Yeah I also liked the Ackbar relieved shot :D

The only reason I picked Ackbar to say the lines is because it seemed more possible to actually achieve...I mean, who *wouldn't* want Liea saying something like that? But *how* could we actually do this?

Yes, I also understand about Han's lines inserted right there at the end...yes normally it's just music...but I thought *if* something like this could be achieved (and everyone went for it) it would be worth it to change things up a bit...afterall it's the final movie of the saga!

Yeah, I'm still thinking about the celebrations at the end...I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around what should be done that is not only tasteful but also achievable.

I don't really like the Jedi ghosts on Coruscant idea...mainly because Liea is still in her Ewok clothes...but that's just me.

Thanks again!

Sorry for the delayed Feedback for your video but here it is.

First I like a lot that you change the angles when the ships comes out. Very sublte but it adds extreme feelings :D.

I LOVE the hold your breath moment before we see lando again (that was too close).

Remembering that ady said about a secret ending in ROTJ:R that we see why the planets celebrate so quickly after the empire's fall. Well Your idea with the rebel fleet goes here and there and alert the planets is a fantastic idea.

I really didnt expect to see a so good ending despite the fact i use to see ewoks and a party at the end :D

Bingo's ideas about Coruscant and Senate can be in too. This will tie things more to PT ;)

You manage to make me cant watch ROTJ anymore because of the all child shit and begging for an edit og yours as well :D

Great job once again :)

-Angel

Well thank you, Angel! Very high compliments there!

Yeah, I think the Coruscant and senate thing could work too...I'm just out of ideas as to how that might work/look...

Again a VERY cool teaser poster! :D

Really loved the video, apart from few minor things like reused clips but apart from that I loved Han being concerned for Luke, shows he has grown as a character. I think what Ackbar said about the rebels have won needs somekind of different dialogue, like the emporer has been defeated, not the empire. Wouldnt mention that the rebels had won because we had just seen that and Ric Olie has an excuse to be in ROTJ wouldnt ya Ric?

5 out of 5 Stars sswr!

Thanks! And yes I totally agree with you on what Ackbar is saying. Actually I don't know if I'd have him say anything about the emperor...actually I don't know if I'd have him say anything! lol I typed this up back when there was discussion about redubbing Ackbar (forgot why...). I decided to leave in everything I originally typed.

Where'd you get the C-3PO dialogue, about "completing his mission" and "giving R2 the credit"?

Another video...this time testing out a totally different ending for ROTJ.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUJL7c3-yro

I started this before Adywan had ever mentioned ROTJ:R...actually I got alot of the ideas from the Starkiller Ranch thread...back when it was still alive...*sniff*  ;)
I started this video about two years ago and continued to add and change things as i went along.
Some ideas I first started off with don't seem near as fesible now (new 3PO dialouge)...plus some ideas seem a bit...fan boy-ish.
But there are some ideas I do like...that being the main reason I decided to finally post it now. I want it to be floating around for a while so people can watch and comment on what they like and don't like...maybe this will help Adywan with some ideas...we'll have to wait and see!

Oh! And I'd better comment now that I *don't* want Hayden in this version...I simply don't have a good copy of the GOUT to use. :D

It's not just change for change sake, it's change to make the story make more sense.

That part of the story makes perfect sense. Jedi has many issues, but a slightly exposition-heavy scene isn't one of them. In 26 years I never heard a single complaint about the Dagobah scenes.

Anyway, I thought we were agreeing to disagree :-)

It's not that it doesn't work the way it is in the film now. BUT if the restructuing of scenes does indeed happen (Luke on dagobah first)...then the film seems to slow way down before anything interesting happens...I tried it along time ago and it felt really slow.

Some good work there, SSWR!

I like how you got Yoda to do the coughing.  As a suggestion, could you make an alternate edit?

Personally, I could see the beginning with Vader removed entirely and just start on Dagobah.  In fact, I would not show the X-wing or R2 and just show Luke (recoloring his EMPIRE outfit to black) running through the forest and CGI Yoda off his back (since he would be back in the hut, with Luke doing his final training on his own) and maybe his green lightsabre on (or it could be kept off to save it for the barge fight reveal).  I would never show Luke's face, so when he reveals himself before Jabba, it is the first time we see him completely.

What kind of programs do you use for your editing?

Well, I like the sound of that too...If I tried that it would be even more rough...I can't erase Yoda very well with what I use (adobe premiere and photoshop elements)...I don't know...I might attempt something like this eventually...

Bingowings said:

There's a lot to love about SSWR's last lesson mockup.

To those who think it spoils the reveal at Jabba's Palace as I said before the reveal is already broken in the theatrical cut where the mysterious powerful looking Jedi falls down the first trapdoor.

To build a more interesting last lesson it may be fun to mirror the very first lesson.

Remember Luke deflecting remote blasts with his sabre?

If Vader can deflect Han's bolts with the Force alone it would prove that Luke has stepped up a notch if he learned to do it too (totally useless against the power of Palpatine's Force Lightning but he did say they were feeble skills).

Here's how I see it.

Sinister music (something like The Magic Tree from ESB).

A mysterious hooded figure approaches Yoda's house.

A couple of remotes activate and he effortlessly deflects their blasts against them using only the Force (no saber yet).

Is Yoda safe? Who is this sinister chap?

He lifts his hood to reveal Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight.

Yoda sitting on a log congratulates him and then coughs, Luke looks concerned.

Then the scene inside.

That way you can start the film (from Luke's end) on Dagobah and still have the mysterious intro, a final lesson that mirrors the first and sets up a scene at the end.

Is it doable?

"I'm just making this up as I go along"

I agree about the 'ruining Luke's entrance' thing. Although I have a slightly different view of this: I've never really thought Luke looked like a 'bad ass' in this movie...yeah kind of when he enters Jabbas palace...but the rest of the movie? nah...yeah, he is more wise than ESB...but to me he's still learning quite a bit...which is great! we can still relate with him becuase we are still on this journey with him. does that make sense? so to me losing that entrance at jabbas doesn't really bother me....but again that's *my* line of thought.

And Bingo, I like your thought on this scene too...I'm not sure how i feel about the remotes...i like the fact that on dagobah it's all organic lifeforms...no technology anywhere (other than what Luke brought...which maybe you could argue he brought the remotes...). But I like the idea of mirroring the first and last training scene...very cool...

Thanks again! :D

Well here's that 'Luke training on Dagobah' idea we were talking about the other day...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFBmHpcX4eA
This is how it would fit in with the fan-o-matic edit. Needs some more tweaking...ideas? Is this scene too early to show Lukes new saber?

You know what? That's pretty neat! I think it might work for some editor, definitely for the Fan-O-Matic. Nice reuse of the turn, he even looks concerned for the coughing (which I found both clever and hilarious). Great job man!

Obviously that's a crude edit but you can definitely see how it works. I approve. A bit of awkward rotoscoping on Luke's turn, maybe a long shot of new footage for him training in the swamp, and I really think that could work.

Well done.

Thanks guys! Yeah, you'll notice all of my stuff is awkard and crude and will need alot of messaging...but it gets the idea across.
