Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Allrighty, Here's my 2¢ about the Ghost of Gui-Gon Jinn. (Thanks character map!)

1. The body of Qui-Gon can not dissappear. As it has been mentioned, this would create more problems than it would fix. In addition, Yoda and Obi-wan pretty much evaporated soon as they were dead. If this is the norm, then he would have to dissappear in Obi-wan's arms in the reactor room. Otherwise, he'd still be alive when they put him on the pyre and would have died in the flames.

2. I've been trying to talk somebody into re-editing the Anakin destroying the Droid Control Ship for quite a while. Having Qui-gon speak to Anakin through the Force is the way the movie needed to end up. The allusion to Luke destroying the Death Star would be perfect. The only problem would be that in the final edit, Qui-Gon is still alive. He dies after Anakin destroys the ship. Having Qui-Gon 'communicate' with Anakin while he is still alive seems problematic. Moving the scenes around fix the problem. Incidentally, the revised 3rd draft has Qui-Gon dying before Anakin does his stuff.

3. As far as having Gui-gon communicate with Anakin or Obi-wan later in the movies....I think I'd leave the communication to a minimum. Qui-gon is a prequel character. If he is talking to everybody and appearing to everybody, then there's no reason for him not to be in the classic trilogy. If I had him appear, I'd have him only at the very end of the movie, As Obi-wan is walking back to the Eeopie. He'd appeas as Obi-wan walks towards him.

The only thing that bugs me about that movie is Anakin destroying the droid control ship by accident. I know that the MagFan edit takes care of this (and I haven't seen the ADM edit yet) but I would love if someone would dub in Qui-Gon's voice to Anakin right before he blows up the ship. This would be a deliberate allusion to Ben helping Luke destroy the Death Star. Maybe putting in some lines from before the Pod Race, where Qui-gon tells Anakin to "Trust your instincts" or such. You would have to move the death scene of Qui-gon a little earlier in the movie, but it could work. Besides, Qui-gon's death precedes Anakin's blowing up the control ship in the revised 3rd draft of the script. Am I making sense?

Never mind. This is already being discussed in the Episode 2 edit thread.

Great covers! Do we get to download your handiwork?

Info Wanted: Close Encounters Of The Third Kind - a preservation?

I know that the current DVD release is closer to the 1977 release than the Special Edition was. (boy, that's a weird sentence)

Aside from the bizarre idea of showing Roy go up into the ship, the only real differences were a few new FX shots and some new musical cues. Shouldn't be tough to restore if you knew what you were doing. I for one would love to watch it.

Interested in everyones opinion when ROTS DVD Comes after Nov 1
Time
Yup. Sign me up for #3. The prequels never bothered me much aside from the poop jokes. And as far as other hot points like Vader's Noo!! scenes or Greedo shooting first, eh, I just don't care anymore. I was betrayed by them Ewoks back in '83, spent years stewing over the faults, and now I just don't care. I'm turning a blind eye to the faults.

Besides, thanks to the work of such brilliant editors like ADigitalMan, MagnoilaFan, Darth Editious, and old OPCMovie (the G-man), well have tons of .vob files to choose from. Just plug-in what you like and there ya go. We'll all have our own personal edits then.

speaking of mcquarrie it's weird no one has made a fan project using his paintings to make movies, since their was a trailer for empire that did. a fan dvdr of his stuff would be cool. other than his star wars stuff, i love his artwork for the asimov series of books.

Once I have a few million in the bank, I'm gonna hire an overseas animation company to make a cartoon version of Lucas first draft of Star Wars: The Adventures of Luke Starkiller in the artistic style of the McQuarrie paintings. And then I'll be going to jail. It'll be worth it.

How about r2d2 beneath the dome? It was an exclusive to AOTC DVD.

Yeah, but to me that is a little different...this is available seperately and as far as I know, one could still purchase it.
That makes it a little more commercially available than the others, you know?
But you're right...it was included as a bonus disc with AOTC...

Actually, it was an exclusive trailer that wasn't on the Beneath the Dome disc. Maybe one of you guys could make a Beneath the Dome Superdisc...

Idea: Preserving Episodes 1-3?

there was a marathon theatrical screening of the saga just before the general release of Episode III. It was at the Empire, Leicester Square in London, England. However, the OT prints screened were of the '97 SE.

Weird.
Well, I hope you made Telecine versions of them! hehe!

Actually, I kind of want to see Ian as Palpy in ESB on the big screen some day.

hehe Let's not drown old DE. He'll treat us right. Kinda like Dairy Queen and their delicious sundaes.

And while a Clone-dub might be interesting, I am sure a few dozen guys here would riot if it was done. Re-dubbing Boba Fett was bad enough. And did the stormtroopers really say anything in Empire and Jedi? And are they necessarily clones?

If they did a re-dub of the stormies, I'd want it on a seperate audio track buried deep down on the disc.

Well, totally off subject, I guess this is why I never heard of any marathon theatrical screenings of the saga when Episode III came out. None of the prints that Lucasfilm and Fox have are the current DVD versions. Could this mean there could never be another theatrical release of the Classic Trilogy, special editions or otherwise?

I for one would love to have a decent theatrical prequel trilogy to go with a theatrical classical trilogy set, even they don't really match each other all the same.
