The offer to host an online script is really helpful -- we just need to devise a way to get ourselves all onto the same page. If Commander and I are to be the chief architects, then it'd probably be most polite for us to work out the script and then post it scene by scene-ish. Some way for us to break the movie down to digestible chunks so that we communicate completely and quickly about what needs to be done.

So we still need to settle the current issues and agree on an overall outline.

I guess I'll give my say on the Gungans again. It sounds like there are some unspoken attitudes that need to come forth -- e.g. I would have no qualms taking good ideas from MagFan's edit. DarthPreston, you should get the AdMan JarJar dialogue for that cut because it really changes things-- Jar Jar is banished for losing the Gungan's Kaibar Crystal to the Naboo, not just for being clumsy. This change explains why he's outside the city and why it's a risk for him to take the Jedi to the city as well as why the Gungan hate the Naboo and why Amidala has no regard for the Gungan. Having the Jedi meet Boss Nass before they ask him to join the battle has clear value, if this sequence can be shaved down along these lines. This version of Jar Jar with the crystal pays off best in the final image of the film when Amidala gives that crystal back to Boss Nass. Finally, that pointless parade echo of the medal ceremony in Episode IV has some meaning. I don't want to give that up.

I never watched the MagFan JarJar dialogue, so I don't know if these are his ideas or AdMan's. But they work.

I agree the Gungan sequence is too long. I'd like to cut the planet core trip to nothing. Cut out the waterfall. But if we construct the intro of Jar Jar better, then the swim to his city can have a potent feeling of adventure-- it sets up things for later very well.

One of the things I really liked about the MagFan edit is the Kaiburr Crystal sub-plot. And while I myself would be a little leery about adding yet another sub-plot (there might be a pun in here somewhere) to the film, the idea of this Kaiburr Crystal would take care of a lot of footage that might have to be cut out otherwise.

I personally wouldn't want to see all the bongo footage cut. After Jar Jar's introduction to the Jedi, and he mentions that the humans have a city, Jar Jar could mention that he can take them there in a sub. We have a shot of the sub underwater and later surfacing in Theed. If they show up in Theed in the sub, then it might be important to show at least a glimpse of the journey. While the whole trip to the Gungan City is pointless (it's funny, because George cut the Analysis Droids from Episode 2 for the same reason, the scene started with nothing and ended with nothing). Maybe the Gungan city footage, or parts of it could be used later in an attempt to recover the Kaiburr Crystal.

Someone needs to host an annotated script online, where they make all the changes we decide to the script. If it's a text only web page, we all can check in every couple of days and see how the flow of the story is flowing. And maybe we can have links to all the sample clips we have been tinkering around with. If I still had my web page up, I'd be happy to do it.

When I originally thought of Grievous being Maul, such a scene did not seem necessary to me. A few hints and a brief explanation through Grievous dialogue would do fine, and I still feel that way. After all, in this version of the saga we aren't going to see the complete Anakin=Vader transformation, are we? Even so it would seem rather repetitve to see the same process twice. The last scene has potential, as Dooku and Sidious really need some more dialogue between them to explain just what the heck is going on. Christopher Lee sound clips seem to be in abundance, but what about Ian McDiarmid? Anyone have any ideas for possible sources for alternater Palpatine dialogue?

I don't know what the current plan is for seeing Anakin's transformation -- I vote we keep it because in this Saga it's always Anakin's story that counts and that is about the most powerful material in Anakin's story. Aside from the staging of his "NOOO!", that scene where Sidious tells his new best friend a horrible and corrupting lie is a wonderful portrait of evil. "by the way, you killed your true love. Don't let it get you down."

I'd miss everything but the "Nooo!" if we cut it out. That's the climax of the first three movies.

That said, whatever way we go I believe the Maul=Grievous story needs the transformation scene for a couple reasons -- first, it's a hell of a lot of off-screen action to cover in a couple lines of dialogue-- Maul is recovered in pieces, turned into a robot, and brought back onto the scene about 13 years later? Without the "rebuilding scene" it's almost like this stuff must happen all the time.

Second, I think the skeptics of this idea will be able to say we took the easy way out if we don't do this scene. The strength of this idea is that it adds depth to something shallow. But if we make the viewer work too hard to understand it, or if they feel it should have been done better, then I don't think we're going to achieve what we want.

But I, of course, bow to the decisions of the actual editors on all these things. My powers are not yet great enough to force my changes upon you...

My jaw dropped when I read DaystromX's idea. Fr*ckin' brilliant!! While the scene would be difficult to construct, the payoff would be huge. I think to 'seal the deal' (to quote Strongbad), a strong musical cue would be needed to introduce Maul's introduction (preferably when the doors open before his fight with Obi and Quigon), the cue is played again strongly at his re-construction at the end of Episode 2, and again at his bursting through the doors at the start of Episode 3.

Regarding the whole Maul/Greivous thing: What if Sidious viewed Maul as a failure after his supposed destruction on Naboo and dropped him as a Sith apprentice? Maul would undergo years of salvage work, and after a bit of bond-o, we are left with Greivous, a shell of what he used to be. Maybe the overall lack of a body would also account for him not being able to tap into the Force. That alone would result in being re-assigned by Sidious. This would be just a step beyond what Vandal just suggested.

Well, THX, that is a good idea.

Infodroid: I'm starting to see it now. Honestly, the biggest convincer for me is "Why not?"

The clip of Vader on the blockade runner was cool. The music gave the clip a nice little punch. But not too much. Along a similiar vein, since you have been talking about (I think it was in this thread) modifying the Emperor Hologram scene in ESB, I'd like to see a bit of the Emperor's theme there. Just enough to give Palpy a bit more menace, as it were.

I can't say I have been sold on the whole Maul/Grievous idea either. I think it would make a cool seperate 'Star Wars Infinities" project, where someone edits together an hour long Darth Maul movie with the first part being TPM stuff and the last part being his reincarnated grevious self.

And my take on the Jedi Ghost thing...

What I would like to see (I've posted this before), is this:

-Luke looks off to the distance.
-Old Obi-Wan and Yoda are there, and old Anakin appears.
-Luke smiles at them, and Leia comes over to him.
-Old spirits transform into their prequel trilogy selves, dressed appropriately (no cut-and-paste jobs).
-Luke and Leia join the rest of the group.
-Qui-Gon appears beside them and the group acknowledges each other.
-Final shot of the OT characters.
-NEW final shot of SAGA characters, the spirits.

Since the saga is really about Anakin, the final shot should feature him and the other full-saga characters. That, and I never liked that last shot of laughing Leia, clapping Lando, and dancing Ewoks. A new, triumphant musical cue should also be added to end the saga with an emotional bang. It would be nice to see Padme there with the rest of the spirits, to have Anakin reunited with his love and Luke and Leia see their mother, but the logistics of explaining how that would be possible would outrage many fans I'm sure. In my opinion, NOT seeing Padme really weakens the saga; what kind of happy ending is it when we're left to assume the hero's love is lost to oblivion? All that aside, seeing Qui-Gon makes perfect sense as he is the reason the rest of them are there in the first place.

I really like this. I would dig seeing old Anakin and Ben start to glow brightly and then as the glow dies down, we see a yound Anakin and Ob-wan. And Qui-Gon fades in and there ya go. Honestly, CC is a fr**kin' genius.

Even if having more ghosts in the movie doesn't fit the over all Saga feel of this project (I think that it does), I still would love to see this scene made as CC has it. I'd find a spot for it somewhere.

What I'd really like to see for the Episode Six edit is a re-dubbing of Mon Mothma's lines. Since none of the movies ever featured a Bothan, the line doesn't have any punch. Maybe she could take a second to mention that she has been fighting against Palpatine from the beginning, how the Rebel Alliance has lost such valuable members such as General Jan Dodonna, Senator Bail Organa and maybe Senator Padme Amidala. There ya go.

Thanks for the link, CC. I can't wait to see what the buzz is about.

Since you guys are starting with Episode 1, I'd recommend figuring out the major changes that need to be made for all six films before actual work is started. That way, you guys don't paint yourselves in a corner later on.

And while we are on the subject of ghosts, (here's where I get stoned for heresy), Alec Guinness might have to go. A guess it depends whether Shaw or Christensen is going to be used. I would not mind Christensen as much if he were next to Mcgreggor. Actually, even if you guys don't use it, it would be neat to see 'prequel version' of this scene with Hayden, Neeson and Ewan (not necessarily to put into the movie, but maybe to have as an 'Alternate scene' for a Bonus Material disc). Anyway, we need either only the old actors or the new actors. Not both at the same time.

If Quigon is in this version, then Luke would need to know who he is so his appearence makes sense. This seems like a good reason to replace Ben's mention on Dagobah that Yoda trained him to Quigon trained him.

It would be great to see more ghosts in Jedi. We need to keep the music at the end of Jedi. PLEASE don't put back the Yub yub abomination.

Let me toss out an idea. Are you guys planning on keeping the extra planet montage at the end of Jedi? Now if you guys are crazy enough to cut out other Jedi like Quigon and drop them into the end of Jedi (crazier things have happened), what if you put Quigon or Mace (or Quigon and Mace) appearing at Coruscant or in the Jedi Temple. This would look a lot cooler than some dorky Gungans yelling "Wesa free!".

I don't think it needs its own thread so I posted here. If anyone objects to this post being here, I will delete it.

It looks to me like Deleted Magic meets Forgotten Scenes plus a bit extra. I will tell you when my PAL copy arrives.

Does anyone know any more about this DVD??

When I told OCP about this he said.............

That looks like something new, though I'm sure he
took material and ideas from T'Bone's site. Weird. I
have no idea. It's not nearly as bad as The Forgotten
Scenes from what I can see, but not essential viewing.

STAR WARS fans – this is the documentary you’ve never seen about the STAR WARS you don’t know!

NOW THIS HIGHLY ACCLAIMED FAN DOCUMENTARY IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN NTSC FORMAT FOR U.S. FANS!

STAR WARS – FROM THE FILM VAULTS is a fan-made documentary and the result of sixth months research, editing and a lot of hard work. It follows the evolution of STAR WARS Episode IV – A New Hope from the famous ‘lost cut’ to the dvd release of 2004.

Using rare footage and information from sources as diverse as 1970s television broadcasts, long deleted videos, archive tapes and the internet, STAR WARS – FROM THE FILM VAULTS recreates the famous lost scenes from Episode IV in full screen video with sound with full explanations as to how they fit into the original narrative.

The “Original Jabba” scene alone uses footage from no less than eight different sources and is skilfully knitted together to present the full scene as it would have played if George Lucas had abandoned the idea of an alien Jabba.

From the ‘lost cut’ of Episode IV to the Special Edition of 1997 and the even further enhanced dvd release of 2004, this fascinating and well-crafted documentary contains countless clips and facts following the various versions of the film – complete with a never-before seen split-screen comparison between the 1977 and 1997 versions of the film, highlighting the obvious and subtle differences.

This documentary is a labour of love and it’s time to share it with fellow fans. I know you’ve probably never seen it before because it’s all my work – I’m the writer, editor and producer of this DVD. I say “probably” never seen it before because a cut-down version of my work ran in the foyers of certain ODEON CINEMAS during the release of REVENGE OF THE SITH – that version was full of corporate idents and was incomplete – this version is finished and tailored for fans!

This is a not-for-profit venture – hence the low price – the fee charged covers the cost of the disc and packaging, wear-and-tear on equipment and time spent on duplication.

Did anyone ever pick this up?

I was wondering about them flashbacks. If you use footage and audio for flashbacks, are you still going to keep the footage in later on. For example, the Obi-wan sequence in ANH that quotes the monologue from Jedi. If you guys are making this a whole saga or trilogy of whatever, would you cut out the scene in Jedi because the audio was already used in ANH, or would we have it twice? Does this make any sense?
