I'm just saying there is a lot of good reading out there for those who care to do it.

Maybe TPM's finale could be arranged around Anakin taking out the droid controlship. Qui-Gon is dead, Amidala is captured, and the Gungans are dying on the battlefield. After Qui-Gon's death, Anakin hears his voice, like Luke heard Obi-Wan's voice during the Death Star battle. The line "Remember, feel don't think" could be re-used. Anakin pilots (not by accident) his ship into the droid controlship, and takes it out. This way, Anakin is the true hero of the Battle of Naboo, and we also see just how strong he is with the Force. It could also be a nice mirror of the earlier mentioned scene in ANH.
Another idea I had was having Qui-Gon's body disappear, after he dies. The explanation Jedi disappearing as given in ROTS felt forced, and never made much sense to me. If it's something a Jedi has to learn, how did Anakin manage to reappear as a ghost?
I have no trouble believing that a Jedi disappering after his death has something to do with his state of mind. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself, Yoda went prepared and peaceful to his death, as did Darth Vader. The same could be said for Qui-Gon. Jedi like Mace Windu and the Jedi who died in battle didn't disappear, because they couldn't "prepare" for the deaths.
Having Qui-Gon's body disappear would sidestep the problem of having a forced explanation in the final 5 minutes of ROTS.
An idea I had for for the Senate scenes in AOTC was to remove some of the lights of the Senate pods lined up against the wall. The crawl states that many systems have left the Republic, so the pods of the senators of those systems would be unused, and there wouldn't be any need to see those pods "activated". I think it would be a subtle way of showing just how much the Republic is falling apart, especially in contrast with TPM.
all of these ideas are awesome, i cant believe noone has thought of having quigon talk to anakin through the force yet! that would be especially awesome.
it has been discussed lots before, just not in this thread.

Good for you, man. Good for you.
The cover is pretty good. I think I'd prefer the text on the back in a box instead of just on the image.

What is pre-post?
Angel, that clean-up was nice. It seemed a but washed out, but the source is pretty crappy. I like the sky in the correction. The original looks like a smog is rolling in.
I don't like the idea of a lightsaber being built with the Force. It sounds too PT/EU to me. I'd bet it would make Obi-wan very grumpy.
Oh, for those of you that haven't seen Jambe Davdar's Returning to Jedi, he has a clip of the original prop lightsaber that Luke filmed but wasn't included in the final cut.
It's all cool. I was just makin' sure we weren't jumping on one cool idea at the expense of the rest of the scenes. I think a lot of ideas that are posted on these threads work great on their own and would make a cool youtube video or alternate scene on a bonus disc, but might not work when incorperated into one of the films.
Akwat Kbrana said:Of course, I find option '3' the easiest to swallow, but it won't fly with TFNers. I don't really see any other way out, though. I'm perfectly happy to just write off the PT as poorly-written revisionist historical-fiction and consider "canon" only that which doesn't conflict with the OT...
I wonder if the TFNers ever complain about OTdotcomers?
It is a floor-polish and a desert topping!
I suppose the gimer stick would be a design leftover from when Yoda was a blue small hobbit-like wizard in the early concept art. Sort of the equivalent of the hobbit's pipe.
I could be totally wrong, but it seems like that is that is going on.
That would be a pain in the butt to pull off.
And totally cool.
Since it removes Ben and Luke from Dagobah, would Luke still travel to Dagobah to complete his training with Yoda?
Can do. I'll send you a link tonight.
vaderios said:Hey Ady, I was just glancing at the excellent comparisons you have in the first post when I noticed something:
On the lower right pic, it looks like almost all of the stars on the left of the star destroyer are duplicated on the right side, not just the circled examples.
Are you thinking of his cane? I think somewhere along the line, the cane started to be called a gimer stick. I don't think they were the same thing originally.
The montage shows that a bit more time was devoted to Luke's training, although it doesn't answer the question of how much time.
Seconded.
I would like to donate a cover to this project, but I am having a hard time getting the time to finish it. Is there any one who would like to take a crack at it. I'll send you the WIP I have so far.
I stopped buying CD's a while ago (hello itunes), but I might make an exception for this set. Besides, my vinyl Revolver and Sgt. Peppers are about worn out.
Great, now that image is in my brain. Dammit!
Getting back on topic, I think ending Jedi at the funeral pyre isn't a bad idea. It may not offer the closure for the movie the way it is now, but if the movie is less about the rebels and more about Luke, I think it would work.
Johnny Ringo said:There's really nothing in the movie to indicate a great passage of time. Maybe they should have done a token 80's training montage?
Funny you should mention the token montage:
From the 4th draft of the script:
306X. EXT BOG CLEARING - SWAMP - DUSK - DAGOBAH
(formerly part 310)
Luke runs through the dense jungle on the last leg of what must have been quite a marathon. Yoda rides in a pouch on Luke's back. The young apprentice is sweaty and exhausted. He stumbles into the clearing where Artoo has been patiently waiting. As Luke is about to collapse, Yoda throws a small metal bar in front of him. Luke ignites his laser sword and swings at it. He missed and the bar falls to the ground. Luke does too.
LUKE
(breathless)
I can't... Too tired.
YODA
It would be in seven pieces, were you a Jedi.
LUKE
(gasping)
I thought I was in good shape.
YODA
Yes, but by what standard, ask I? Forget your old measures. Unlearn, heh, unlearn.
307X. EXT YODA'S BOG (MONTAGE) - DAY - DAGOBAH
(formerly 308)
At the edge of a wide pond, Yoda sits on a log. In his mouth is a Gimer Stick, a short twig with three little branches at the far end. Luke is nowhere in sight, but now we begin to hear the sound of someone crashing through the foliage. Suddenly Luke appears on the far side of the pond at a run and leaps out toward Yoda. It's an extraordinary leap, but he falls short by six feet, creating a huge splash, which drenches Yoda and his Gimer Stick.
308X. EXT YODA'S BOG (MONTAGE) - DAY - DAGOBAH
(formerly 307)
In the bog clearing, Yoda and Luke sit facing two bowling ball-size rocks. Artoo observes from the side. Luke stares at the rocks, Yoda stares at Luke. Slowly, one of the rocks lifts from the ground and floats up to rest on the other. Luke smiles with satisfaction and turns to Yoda for approval. The floating rock tumbles off. Artoo beeps his review.
309X. EXT YODA'S BOG (MONTAGE) - DAY - DAGOBAH
(formerly 309 and part 310)
Luke's face is upside-down and showing enormous strain. Soon we see why. He is standing on his hands and Yoda is perched up on Luke's feet. Yoda taps Luke's leg. Luke focusing and quickly removes one hand. His body wavers, but he maintains his balance.
Artoo races up to his master whistling and beeping like mad. Luke is trying to maintain his balance, desperately and finally collapses. Yoda jumps clear.
These ideas are carried over from the novel. There is evidence that most of this (like Luke cutting the metal bar) was filmed, but cut out later.
I always wanted to see a Biggs lives version where he and Han became rivals for Leia's attention.
ben_danger said:if you are unsure about the celebration ending, could you have it end with the pyre, then when we pan up, there are no fireworks, but maybe just end there? if we pan to stars it would be like a reverse of the star wars opening.
You should do a reverse crawl with 'The End' rushing towards the camera.
I agree.
But to answer the question directly, the design of the 'monitor' is buried way too deep in its housing to make it look appealing. It looks more like a square cup-holder than a monitor. Maybe if you had a better display surface, you would get better results.
And the ESB:R Select #1 is beautiful, Ady. Good work as always!
I love democracy. I love the Republic.
Some type of sun crusher or a star destroyer or something perhaps maybe
R2-918 said:"[Uncle Owen] didn't hold your father's ideals - he thought he should have stayed behind and not gotten involved."
Theres some good info about Owen Lars at the Star Wars.com Databank:
http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/owenlars/index.html
Apparently Owen thought Anakin should have stayed with his mother on Tatooine and not gotten involved with the Republic or the Jedi because of the affect Owen seen on his step-mother Shimi of being without Anakin.
Well that nice. Too bad Owen's thoughts aren't actually in the film and we need 3rd party source to clarify that.
Seconded on what Infodroid sez.
I wasn't the slightest bit interested in picking up yet another fan edit of the PT, but after reading these reviews, I think I'll reconsider.
