Are you talking about six discs = 3 discs of the OT and 3 bonus discs or 6 discs = 1 for each movie including the prequels?

I'd be hesitant to buy the box set unless it has great bonus features.  I already have the movies on DVD.  Unless the quality is 'knock your socks off', I wouldn't want to spend more.

Poll: ROTJ Celebration Themes - 1983 or 1997?

When I first saw the SE in 1997, I remember the new ending really hit me. It just felt so right. The music was happy, but sad at the same time. Which to me, fit the whole idea of the end of a huge battle where many friends were lost, a bittersweet moment.

Since then, I have come to dislike the SE greatly, and don't want to have anything to do with it, expect for that one scene. I still felt the music was a vast improvement over Yub Nub.

However... just now I watched that youtube clip of the 2004 ending, and was blown away by how amazingly, mind boggling awful it was. Then I went back and checked out the 1997 version, and thought it was brilliant. Other than the obvious changes, I can't pin down a difference between the two, but the 1997 version just really works for me while the 2004 irks the crap out of me. Just rewatched the 83 version too, and still feel Yub Nub is total shit (except when Craig Kilborn* sings it, then it is the shit!).

So, B for me.

Also, is it just me, or is the appearance of Naboo just one too many planets? I think we need a shot of Hoth, with two or three wampas feeding on a tauntaun carcass, blood smeared all over their faces, followed by a shot of Alderan's debree field. Hope these scenes get included in the SE 3.0, I think they'll add a much needed sense of completeness to the ending of ROTJ.

*Craig Kilborn version found here ---> http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2007/03/yub_nub.html

Incidentally, the link also includes an English translation of Yub Nub, something I had no idea existed. Pretty crazy stuff. Some really weird stuff happened to my brain while reading them. Now that I know the words to the song, I realize how unbelieveable powerful it is, and see why it is necessary that this remains the true ending to the Star Wars trilogy. In fact, realizing I have gone my entire life without ever reading these lyrics, and not knowing them by heart, I no longer feel worthy to call myself a Star Wars fan, and will therefore be leaving ot.com forever. Farewell guys.

Well, we will miss you, C3.

I agree about the 97 version.  No way I'd vote for the 04 version.

I guess it boils down to whether we want Lando to be an accident victim or someone who dies in sacrifice of his own free will.  Each of these have their own problems and their own payoffs.

If one was to kill off Lando in their edit, I think I'd want Lando sacrifice himself on an impossible mission.  I think I would feel cheated as an audience member if he had the chance to get out alive and it was taken away from him.

That youtube reviewer knows nothing about the story of Star Wars. He says the Jedi were bad because they did not lead an army to free the slaves. Doesnt he realize that would start a war with the Hutt clans and that wouldnt be good.

How could he?
Apart from seeing Jabba in the first 1/3 of RotJ (oh, and that bullsh*t scene in the SW Special Edition), the Hutts play absolutely NO purpose to the story of the six SW films, so why would the reviewer (or for that matter, the majority of the audiences who saw these movies) have any knowledge of that "Hutt war" concept???

I think that is what most people are missing about his reviews.  The movies should make sense to the average audience member.  Most of the people who are up in arms are so up their eyeballs in Star Wars that they can't see straight.

A person shouldn't have to earn a PhD in Star Wars History and Lore to have the movies be understandable.  If the person who is slightly familiar with a movie series goes in to see the latest installment shouldn't have to be scratching his head the whole time.

A problem or plot-hole doesn't disappear because it is patched up outside of the movie.  If I take a picture of the pothole in my driveway and photoshop out the hole on my computer, the hole is still out in the driveway.

The only thing I want done to ANH now is a HD version of the original '77 release with the bad effects cleaned up.  No CGI models, just fix the color and get rid of the matte lines.

No!  Don't fix ANY effects!

Here's the ideal release (for the Blu-Ray):

Disc 1:  An HD 1080p version of "Star Wars" EXACTLY as it was in 1977, matte lines and everything included, plus the mono, theatrical stereo, and 70mm six-track sound mixes included, along with the 1985 stereo remix and the 1993 stereo remix.  Opening crawl is selectable at the start of the film (1977 or 1981 crawl).

Disc 2: An HD 1080p version of the 1997 SE of "Star Wars," EXACTLY as it was on 1997.  Includes the 1997 5.1 surround mix.

Disc 3: An HD 1080p version of the 2004 SE, including the shittily-mixed 2004 5.1 mix.  (No seamless branching because of the incredible differences in color between the 1997 SE and 2004 SE, which would be preserved.)

Disc 4: An HD 1080p version of the final George Lucas Ultimate Edition That Fixes Everything But Probably Won't.

Disc 5: All deleted scenes in 1080p (including the original, pre-CG Jabba scene and original Biggs/Luke in the Rebel hangar scene with the reference to Luke's father intact), with other special features.

Similar for ESB/ROTJ (though Disc 1 of ESB will have seamless branching for the 35mm theatrical and 70mm theatrical versions).  *That* is my ideal set.

And I'd add the NTSC DVD-9 of Revisited as a Disc 6 myself for good measure.

Well, of course.  Since you put it that way, I'd want that.  I would even watch some of those discs.

B. 1997.

The biggest problem I have with the Yub Nyub is that the whole saga (Episodes 4-6) is finished with the end of the Empire and the victory of good over evil, and it is ended up with chanting teddy bears.  Maybe the teddy bear picnic analogy is a bit overused, but I want a big sweeping orchestral finale to wrap up the saga.  The Ewoks have only been in the movie for an hour and they get to be the last word?  BS  I want something bigger.

Now... granted, the 1997 version didn't actually use any previous themes from the saga, but it was a step in the right direction.

He brought up every single problem I had with the PT.  Spot-on 100%.

And his impression of Anakin in part 1 of his Episode II review was priceless.

Ditto.  Anakin never turned to the dark side.  He was there the whole time.

The reviewers on youtube were hilarious.  I can't believe I was like that once.  Eventually, I got tired of lying to myself (and it took a while to realize that I was doing it) that the prequels only had a few tiny problems.  Just because they had some enjoyable moments doesn't mean I had to think they were great movies.

Since we don't have shots of Billy Dee saying how the Falcon is too damaged to make the shot, we have to think of other alternatives.

What if there were alarms in the cockpit and/or flashing lights indicating there is a serious problem with hull.  Or maybe the additional crewman in the Falcon's cockpit could shout something about there being system malfunctions or a hull breach or something.  Nein Numb could also be re-subtitled to carry on a conversation with other crew in the back.

I don't know whether it is unseeded because no one has it completed yet, or whether it has something to do with the way JMF set it up on the demon.  I don't know enough about the process.  I do have almost a 100 megs downloaded so far.

Docta Nick, I concur.

It's not a matter of replacing the galaxy so much as bring it closer (about double or triple the size - galaxies are pretty big and even with the galaxy that much bigger would still mean they are a few 1000 light years or more from the galaxy's edge.  And yes, it is a galaxy) and take the Falcon shot when it approaches Yavin IV to show it heading directly away and to the lower left - as in; towards the galaxy.

Regardless, here are some images you all might find interesting:

(for full size) it isn't mentioned, but I believe the dish in the upper right is the Death Star laser.

I didn't think it was possible, but this thread just got a lot more dorky.
