Oh, sure.  I was just saying that an elaborate sub-plot doesn't need to exist for him to live.  If he is dealt with adequately, and not just tossed aside like an extra in a weequay costume, then he has a point to be in the movie.   If he has plans to sell, then fine, but he still is unnecessary for the early scenes in Jabba's palace.

The only reason Fett doesn't work in ROTJ is he isn't doing what he was designed to do. Having Fett just cooling his heels in Jabba's palace, waiting to be killed off a couple of scenes later is a bit like having a man in a space suit walking into a coffee shop. It doesn't make sense. Boba Fett is a bounty hunter, he finds people or information and he sells it to anyone with the cash.

This storyline gives him a legitmate reason for being in this film (beyond just dying and tying up all the loose ends).

I think I saw the man in a spacesuit walk into a coffee shop on Letterman.

I totally agree that Fett doesn't work in ROTJ.  He had a large enough role in the previous movie to warrant his hanging out in Jabba's palace.

I don't like the plan of him selling the Death Star Plans to the rebels.

1. I think the information about how the rebels got the plans is irrelevant to the fact that they just have the plans.  To me the film reveals just enough about where the plans came from.  The bothans (what ever that is) delivered them through their spies.  Then Palpatine revealed it was all a ruse to defeat the rebels.  And the purpose of that plotline was to justify the extra troops on Endor and to make it tougher for the rebels.

2. I think the idea to have Fett sell the plans to the rebels is looking to solve the problem the wrong way.  The problem isn't how the rebels got the plans, but what the heck is Boba doing in this movie?  To me, having Fett sell the plans isn't what he was designed to do.

It seems to me that a solution needs to deal with Fett at the Palace.  Having Fett at the palace still is useless if his purpose in the rest of the movie is to set up the rebellion.  Fett could be chilling on Hoth before he set out to betray the rebellion.

Fett wouldn't be at the palace for the party either.  Maybe in someone's imagination, he likes being a ladies man and hanging out with dancing girls, but that's not real purpose either.  Fett needs to be on a mission.  He has to be after a bounty.

Skywalker.

Collecting Skywalker was his his original mission for going after the Falcon.  Being able to bring Solo to Jabba was just a bonus.  With Vader stuck on the Death Star, overseeing its construction, it seems logical that he would want to keep the bounty active.

All that would need to be added to the film is a bit of dialogue between Fett and maybe Jabba about knowing Skywalker will come to rescue Solo and Fett will capture him.  Sort of an echo of the conversation on Bespin with Fett and Vader.  The trap to get Luke almost worked the first time.  The way the films play with type-scenes and motifs, this plan would fit the film fine.

Later, when everyone else is out at the pit of carkoon, Fett heads topside to collect his prize.  He notices R2 has an escape plan going so he waits for the right moment.  When it comes, he swoops in, ties Luke up, stuns Luke with a stun-ray and flies him away.  Unless of course some smuggler messes up the last minute.

I think it works.

And really, I don't care at this point if Fett lives or dies.  He had a point to be in the movie and however it wraps up, he can fly away to hunt another day or slowly get digested for a thousand years.

Just my 2 cents.

I know this is a work-in-progress, but going through it frame-by-frame (its so short, I'm justified!) I noticed that the falling walker doesn't move for the first frame.  I KNOW you're going to fix it, but I can't be too safe by not saying anything.

It's impossible to see in the full motion, I'm just having a great time flipping back and forth as everything moves but the walker defies all logic and stays perfectly still!

I played back that portion frame-by-frame just to see what you mean, and you are correct. The very first frame of that falling walker is the same as the following frame. While everything else is inmotion, the walker is just frozen in mid-air for those 2 frames. Then it falls. In motion it is virtually impossible to spot, but I see what you mean. I'm sure Ady is still tweaking these shots, though.

As far as the clip goes, WOW! I have nothing to complain about with this clip. I think it is a vast improvement over the original shot. To my eyes, there is nothing wrong with the mountains at all.

Ady probably has tweaked it by now. I know I'm gonna get turbolasers for this BUT.....in the last clip, all wonderfull AT-AT glory and all found myself diverted from the main event (luke going up) by all the action around him, I know I could sound bitchy but it just happens.....I dunno if anyone else has had this feeling..?

Not me, it worked for me fine.  Maybe if the Luke and the walker weren't in the forground, then it would be more distracting.

By having 2 walkers go down near the same time makes the rebels a bit stronger looking.

A friend of mine, who really should join up for here suggested that the body dissapearing thing should be to be an act of will.

Ben when he is cut down by Vader knows he is going to die and he knows the correct meditiation to maintain his consciousness and return to the physical world via the Force. The same is true of Yoda.

Qui-Gon and Anakin don't know the currect procedure but learn it in the afterlife because there is a need to return.

Qui-Gon needs to help the last two Jedi fix the situation caused by the rise of the Sith and Vader needs to continue his redemption by helping the last Jedi rebuild what he destroyed.

That's a good explanation but I don't know how that could be put on screen in a way that doesn't sound (if you pardon the pun) forced.

Conceptually, I really don't have a problem with Qui-gon or Anakin disappearing into the force.  The bigger problem is to have it work on screen.  Anakin isn't around to see Qui-gon ka-bobed, so as Vader he can still be surprised when Ben disappears.  The only problem is the funeral of Qui-gon.  Is there any information that is absolutely nessecary to keep?  I think the 'rule of 2' can go, it was never really brought back up in the rest of the movies.  Anakin's getting trained by Obi-wan can also be cut with the funeral.  Yoda delivers this information in the next scene anyway.

If you can cut the funeral, there shouldn't be an issue of Qui-gon disappearing.

I figured that all the knowledge of an interdimensional race is more than a human being's brain can handle.

I think something more simple like blood coming out of her ears and nose then just collapsing or something would convey that better than a fireball.  Maybe accompanied by a wooshing cacophony of overlapping sounds like it's all being crammed in her head.

I agree.  And I think I suggested earlier about having Spalko in the middle (if possible, I havent' watched the movie that many times) of the 13 crystal skeletons.  She is at the focal point of the mindpower that Jones and Ox were subjected to, but it is thirteen times the amount.  Head 'splodes.  things start spinning and everyone gets the heck out of there.  I don't know if it would work with the way the film is now, but that's how I'd do it if I had the footage.

Let's analyze this for a second.  All the villains in these Indy movies always finally get what they've been chasing the entire movie.  Belloq wanted the Ark, Mola Ram wanted the stones, and Donovan wanted the Grail.  Their problem is, they see these things as objects that they can use to their own ends.  Their moral character is their ultimate downfall.  Indy always outsmarts them because he has respect for Archaeology.  He's a skeptic, but he learns his lesson by the end, just in time to avoid disaster.  The villains don't.

In every case, the gifts themselves these artifacts bestow are not bad or evil.  After all, the Grail restored life to Henry.  The Sankara stones brought life back to the village.  The Ark...well...the Ark was too holy to even behold.  But when they fell into the wrong hands, their "gifts" had disastrous consequences.

The question we should be asking is, how can we continue that pattern with KOTCS?  Was it ever mentioned that Spalko was looking for "knowledge"?  What is her motivation?  What does she want?  And how can her ultimate pay off be turned against her?  AND how can we communicate all that on-screen in a creative way with the existing material?

Hey InfoDroid,

I like your suggestion that we analyze this. Spalko wanted knowledge I GUESS ... but her expressed desire up to the end was to be able to control others by means of her psychic abilities ... so perhaps the knowledge - the "everything" she wanted to know - was more specifically related to her psychic abilities ... to read minds and influence them from a distance. If this is so, the 'visions' she has that lead to her death might not be grand global scale events, but an overwhelming rush of all the horrible little details in the mind of man. Alternatively, perhaps she gained the knowledge of how to outwardly express her will though her psychic powers but not how to retain her own mental or physical cohesion in the process (all that was her blasted outwards in every direction) ... leading to her bursting apart and turning into tiny bits. So maybe a better death might be to have her literally crack apart Agent Smith style when Neo jumps into him and then bursts him apart at the end of the Matrix. Of course, that would take some CG work, but it would be a death more in keeping with the rest of the series I think ... and better than what little we have now.

Ryan

I don't know if Spalko is the type who would be bothered by the horrible details in the mind of man.  Domination seems to be her cup of tea.

I like the newsreel ideas to show an idea what would happen if she was to proceed with leading armies and controlling nations.  But if you do this, why should you restrict it to just news reels.  it should be taken to the logical extreme with the end of humanity and the destruction of the earth.  And the 'inter-dimensional beings' aren't having any part of that, so Spalko gets fried.

Mark

Yeah i wondered that too. He's a god to them and they still want to roast the heroes. Huh?

Maybe have Logray gesturing and put in subtitles where he says "no, these beings are the ones forcing us from our homes and destroying our forests" or something?

Then 3PO says he'll levitate then "he" does.

That might be the key.  But am not really sure how the Ewoks would view the rebels as compared to the Imperials.  It is easy for us to justify the ewoks villianizing stormtroopers as the Empire would stomp all over the planet with machines, building bunkers and shield generators and landing platforms.  But would the ewoks view the rebels the same as the stormtroopers?  They are human, so they might.  But they aren't in the same armor, so they might not.  It could be like bingowings suggested that if they worshiped 3PO as being a god, why shouldn't they do the same with the stormtroopers who are also as non-organic as 3PO is.  Which is why an image of 3PO would make all the difference.

OH!  What if an ewok spy can be matted into the foreground of the scene where the rebels first exit the shuttle tyderium.  If the rebels are seen exiting an imperial ship, the ewoks would see them as enemies, the same as the imperials.  R2 and 3PO would have to be matted out of that shot until the ewok spies left, of course.

So about making the ewoks more fierce:

What are they mad about? Why ally themselves with the rebels?

What if there's a little bit of dialogue by Logray when he stands up and talks. You could add subtitles where it suggests the imperials have been clearing the forests and subsequently destroying Ewok villages.

To tie into the 3PO is a god idea, it would be 3PO who would be regarded as their saviour in this troubled time.

I think this concept should also include the scene where 3PO 'makes' his throne levitate.  Before this, the Ewoks ignore his command to release Han, Luke and everybody else.  To me this seems like a strange behavior to have if they regard him as a god.  This scene should be a turning point in their motivation follow 3PO's command to join in battle with the humans.

That is all.

That is one of those GIFs that you can watch over and over again.

Don't bother me.  I'm watching that gif over and over again.

It would be cooler if it ended by crashing into a closing door and throwing Han through in the nick of time.

i love theodos dialogue, it brings some decent character to the federation goons, and calling to 'legends' of the jedi, makes them sound that extra bit more unknown that we need for suggestions that they are in the OT.

i would love it if the whole 'sith' concept could be written out. sith are one of my favourite things in star wars, but as they ernt invented until after the OT, it would be good perhaps to just have it that palpatine is a force user who indulges in the dark side, and anakin falls to the dark side. the 'sith' in this context may over complicate things perhaps? unless the term 'sith' could somehow be slipped into the OT.

the big jedi battle from AOTC would be really cool in TPM, for a climax in the centre of theed. it could perhaps eliminate the need for the gungan battle, and maybe the gungans altogether. perhaps as the republic refuse assistance, the jedi take it upon themselves to do so?

They had the sith in the OT, they just never made it into the movies.  They were in the script of Star Wars and in the novel.  The scenes that mentioned Vader was a sith lord were cut.  It never established exactly what a sith was however.  The EU came along and expanded it in the 80's, then it was really expanded in the 90's, and sort of reigned in for the prequels.  It has always been sort of a mess.

Palpatine was invented as a senator who became Emperor through manipulating the system.  And he was a force user, but originally, he never really was associated with the Jedi or Sith.

I'd buy a mega-set like the Blade Runner, even if they release a bare-bones full anamorphic 1080i or 1080p or whatever) bluray first.

The problem Lucasfilm has is that they don't have any faith in their movies.  The classic trilogy will always keep a core fan-base and will always continue to gain new fans.  LFL should trust in the movies and the fanbase, stop dorking around with endless changes to get it 'right' and just release the damn movies the way they deserve.  They should follow Disney's example.  Release a perfect, restored box set and put it back in the vault for a dozen years.  That will allow enough time for a new generation of fans to get into the movies and buy the set when it is released again.

LFL needs to realize that people like Star Wars.  Give those people what they want.

It reminds me of Pizza Hut in a way.  They keep messing with pizza, adding cheese inside the crust, suggesting people eat it backwards, etc.  It is pizza.  People like it so stop screwing with it.  If LFL keeps screwing with Star Wars, people aren't gonna like it anymore.
