<strong>The Book Of Boba Fett</strong> (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *
Time

I find funny this aspect of BOBF, about it trying to “humanize” Tuskens. Like, they enslaved Boba, tortured him, in the same way the Tuskens from Episode 2 did, they aren’t THAT different lol.

I read somewhere that this change about Tuskens have some connection to the way some americans saw/see the indigenous people as wild men, and that BOBF wanted to show that this is a prejudiced view of them, showing that through the sand people. I don’t know if this is true, but I saw that Disney put some advertising about this subject before movies like Peter Pan, so I thought that this had some relation to the Tusken thing.

I enjoyed it. Not as much as the Mandalorian, but that’s okay. It was still a good time and a nice little bridge between Mando season 2 and 3.

People really need to stop projecting so many expectations onto Star Wars. Actually modern fandoms need to do that in general, I swear there’s not a single fandom
nowadays where the fanbase collectively enjoys more than 1% of its content.

Life is more fun if you learn to just sit back and enjoy the ride, instead of picking everything apart and fixating on how you’d have personally handled various details.

BOBF was a mess, dude. Good that you and others liked it, but it’s super normal people being disappointed with this series, because it is disjointed. It’s not about “fixating on how you’d have personally handled various details”, the producers could surprise us with something we don’t expect and that could be awesome, but the series is weak in various aspects that users here already pointed out. It’s not people’s fault if writing in other shows are bad, either.

You could even have Boba acknowledge Fennec coming up behind him but they share no dialogue. Once again the music isn’t perfectly timed. If I was doing a full blown edit I’d take more time to really get the music just right of course! 😂

I think that’s great. For me, Boba talking just the necessary and making his decisions by his own is the right direction to go.

Looking great smudger!

Like szopman said above I do think it could use some trimming of the dialogue. Something I’d really like to see in the edit is less “smart Fennec -stupid Boba”. I hate that Fennec always has to talk him in the right direction. It just further drives the wedge in his past self being the most fearsome bounty hunter, when he constantly makes stupid moves. You should try removing Fennec talking Boba out of attacking Bane in that scene. Just have him make the smart decision of being more calculated when going against Bane, instead of external forces motivating him to be.

I totally agree.

STAR WARS - EPISODE I - The Ancient Lore [V2] [IMPROVED Version]
Time

Eh, sorry to bother, because this is a topic that fits more with the montly thread than yours, but I have an idea…

It’s possible to make Anakin build R2 instead of C-3PO with editing, given the images and audio available? Because thinking about it, 3PO being built by Anakin doesn’t make much sense story wise, but R2 makes A LOT of sense, since Anakin have a strong connection with R2 and vice-versa, and R2 have a really strong connection with Luke.

I liked it, the only thing I found a bit odd was the fire springing up on the floor. Maybe just a smoke there would be good. Or you could set the fire somewhere else, like in the trees or in the ship.

In the second sequence? Or the first with the stairs background?

In the sequence showing the stairs as background and in the sequence showing the square. The two have a fire on the floor.

Good to know you are achieving your goals with your edit, smudger! This is a really tricky edit, considering the series problems.

One of the big flaws of BOBF to me was not establish the connection between Boba and Bane early on the story. Bane isn’t mentioned a single time before, so their settlement in the end is weak, emotionally speaking. I had one idea that maybe could help a bit in this aspect, that is using AI voice lines to establish the relationship between the two. In their fight, Bane mentions a “final lesson” to Boba. Maybe, when Boba was talking to Fennec in the desert about abandoning his current life style (in the flashbacks), he could talk about Bane being his mentor in the adolescence and how he introduced Boba to the bounty hunter life, and that they parted ways (or something like that). Then, their final fight would have some meaning, i.e, to won Bane, Boba had to change his bounty hunter fighting style to the Tuskens one, this way symbolically abandoning the life Bane put him into and embracing the new life based on the Tuskens creeds.

The rancor rampage can actually be cut by having Boba v Bane be the climax. Then cutting to the Fennec assassination scene.

I like that, but logistically you’d need to keep Grogu on Tatooine otherwise there’s no existing reunion between him and Mando.

Technically you don’t really need to maintain Grogu on Taooine to have a Mando and Grogu reunion. CarboniteSolo give this idea for a sequence of events, what I think could work for the final:

-Have Din arrive and spend time talking with Ahsoka, Luke training Grogu, but omit the scene when Ahsoka talks about Grogu’s training being interrupted if he sees him.

-Luke asking Grogu if he wants the lightsaber or his friend’s gift.

-Then we see Din’s ship flying off the planet.

-The last scene is Grogu tapping on the glass and Din pushing the button to accelerate.

Plus, you could take the central lines of their reunion and paste somewhere in this footage, maybe in the scene where Din’s ship is flying off the planet.

Some users in this site suggested to make Padme’s voice more thin and Anakin’s voice more deep through editing, in TPM. I never saw this in practice, but maybe this idea could work to shorten the age difference between the two.

Oh yeah, I agree that the story should flow seamlessly, if not it will not be good on screen. I hadn’t seen your edit, but I sure want to see it, I’m always looking for more bold edits. I like what other editors made with TPM, but for me this movie needs a bit more work than just cut bad parts/add deleted scenes, to be a better film. TPM is complex in that sense.

Regarding the AI voices you putted on the clip, I’m always in favor to use them in edits. As you said, AI voices are tricky, but if you find the right words and tones to use, works really well for me.

STAR WARS - EPISODE I - The Ancient Lore [V2] [IMPROVED Version]

Hi, I posted some ideas for episode I in the community focus thread, and I think that some of them maybe could work in an edit like yours:

One idea I have is to change the scene where Maul is introduced, putting another one more “lethal” in place. Instead of show Maul being presented by Sidious in a hologram, I think it could be interesting if he his first shown fighting other jedis, using a few images from the fan film Darth Maul: Apprentice, maybe presenting him as a jedi killer.

When Qui Gon was leaving the underwater city using the water transport, Maul could be shown in another place concentrating (using footage from the fan movie Darth Maul vs Jedi), hinting that he would be controling the underwater monster through the force (at a distance), making the creature attack the transport. While Maul was doing this, he could whisper the phrase “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to power” in Qui Gon’s mind (this phrase was said in a Knights of Ren fan trailer, and for me the actor who says this phrase sounds a lot like Maul’s voice actor from Clone Wars. Also, putting this phrase would serve to differentiate well the philosophy of the Sith as opposed to that of the Jedi, said by Yoda later in the film). For this scene, I figured it would be cool to “cut” Qui Gon from the scene he meditates (at the end of the film) to put him meditating there, in the transport (I don’t know if this would be possible through editing). In this way, Qui Gon would use the force to control a bigger fish, which would attack the smaller fish controlled by Maul. After Qui Gon spoke the phrase about the “big fish”, Maul would be shown furious with Qui Gon’s victory.

During the pod race, in the moment that Anakin is thrown out of the road, I thought it could be cool to show a close-up of his face and play the "force theme song”, as if Anakin himself was already using the force without knowing it, during that period of his life. After the movie shows Qui Gon’s reaction to Anakin using the force, it would then be shown Anakin’s vehicle returning to the track thanks to his force powers (my idea with this is to try to give a little more emotion to the race, in addition to showing that Anakin was not a complete ignorant in the force until then).

After Maul lost his duel to Qui Gon on Tatooine, I thought it would be cool to show Maul training (using scenes from the fan movie Darth Maul: Apprentice), very angry that he lost again to Qui Gon and wanting revenge (I thought it would be nice to add some Maul lines from Battlefront 2 here).

And that’s it.

EDIT: I don’t know if you know this software, but it could help you to create new voice lines for Qui Gon Jinn: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Make-Qui-Gon-say-whatever-you-want-thanks-to-droids-Machine-Learning/id/87366

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

It isn’t a wishlist. Fans just want good stories that doesn’t mess the characters and the universe that was established before. If the new story is well written and the new characters are well-built, people will like it, old or new fans. It’s not that hard (unless the people in charge doesn’t has a clue about what to do with the characters/story).

Community Focus Thread 1: The Phantom Menace
Time

I have some ideas for a TPM fan edit, but it would change the story a bit, and I don’t know if it would work in a more traditional fanedit. I’ll try to sum up with the major changes.

Basically my idea would be to start the movie with Maul fighting other jedis, using a few images from the fan film Darth Maul: Apprentice. After that, that scene of Qui Gon Jinn in the jedi temple reporting to the council about the newly discovered sith lord would be shown. At this point, new lines would be added, with Qui Gon saying that he believed that the sith lord had gone to Naboo after the chosen one (these new lines would be created using this software: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Make-Qui-Gon-say-whatever-you-want-thanks-to-droids-Machine-Learning/id/87366). Qui Gon would comment that he found a vergence in the force, and after being asked by Mace Windu about such a vergence being located around a person, Qui Gon would confirm that it did, but that he only felt its presence for an instant during his meditations. Qui Gon believes that if he felt this vergence, the Sith might have felt it too. Qui Gon then says that the people of Naboo have ancient knowledge about the Force, and that they may have a clue as to the location of the Chosen One. Mace Windu would then order Qui Gon to go to Naboo to discover the identity of this dark warrior.

Then Qui Gon would go to Naboo to speak to the Gungans about the prophecy, but the Gungans would have no clue about the chosen one. Then, when Qui Gon was leaving the underwater city using the water transport, Maul would be shown in another place concentrating (using footage from the fan movie Darth Maul vs Jedi), hinting that he would be controling the underwater monster through the force (at a distance), making the creature attack the water transport. While Maul was doing this, he would whisper the phrase “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to power” in Qui Gon’s mind (this phrase was said in a Knights of Ren fan trailer, and for me the actor who says this phrase sounds a lot like Maul’s voice actor from Clone Wars. I was hoping for an episode without Grogu. I wanted his and Mando’s recomposition to be an exclusive Mandalorian moment and a more emotional one. There were some cool moments in this episode, but, to be honest, I didn’t even care about the whole fight.

I agree with this. I wonder if is even possible to edit this final episode to make Grogu arrive in Tatooine just after the battle. The reunion with Mando would be cut, but we would still see the two in the ship in that final scene, so maybe it could work.

For me it isn’t just fan service. We saw grogu evolving as a jedi, and he being present in the attack of the jedi temple is a new detail that we don’t knew until now. Seeing Luke as a true Jedi master, but also learning how to become a teacher and building his jedi academy, seems like character development to me (and a bit of an apology for his treatment in the sequels). I think a big part of the fandom always had wish to see this part of Luke’s history, that we just had read in novels or comics, and I’m really glad that we receive this in the live action format. I totally agree that doing that in BOBF is wrong though, but for me at least, the episode did moved forward the story of these characters (and for Luke, is a kind of a utopian dream coming true due to his age, thanks to the AI technology).

Cad Bane and Cobb Vanth for me aren’t fan service, as they’re one of the few things that totally fits in the narrative of BOBF since episode 5. Ahsoka was a bit gratuitous though, she really was stuffed in there.
