Smudger9's Bad Batch Movie Series [EP1 & EP2 RELEASED]
Time

I watched your edit of season 2, and first I want to thank you for sharing your edit. When I watched the edit I thought it was excellent, despite there being some parts where the narrative is very slow. Something told me that Crosshair’s arc had been more significant when I watched the second season, but I couldn’t say exactly what. It was then that I remembered The Solitary Clone, and man, I think this episode makes a significant difference to the story of Season 2.

I would like to ask honestly, did you remove it because you considered it filler, because it wasn’t to your personal taste, or for another reason? Because, personally, I think there is a possibility of cutting some scenes from the political arc at the beginning, as well as some scenes from Pabu, without affecting the overall pace of the edit, and including at least the core scenes from The Solitary Clone. Of course this is your edit and you know what makes the most sense to you in the story, but in my personal experience, when I watched your edit, I felt that the dramatic weight surrounding the Crosshair uprising in Barton IV was much lighter than when I watched the entire season, and that’s due to the absence of this episode.

During this arc, we see Crosshair’s blind loyalty to the Empire in a clearer way than in the first season, as well as his level of dedication to completing a mission, even if it doesn’t make sense, due to his mantra of “good soldiers follow orders”. And then, when Crosshair finally realizes that the empire sees the clones as disposable, we remember all the loyalty, all the dedication he gave, and just like Crosshair, we realize that it was for nothing. And The Solitary Clone shows all this dedication of the character, helping the audience to understand the anguish that Crosshair feels at this turning point. Furthermore, the fact that Crosshair learned that Cody, a clone he respected and who was also loyal to the empire, rebelled, adds an additional layer to his decision to rebel later. And the fact that Rampart, an official of the empire, mentions that Cody is another one of the clones who defected, also helps us realize that this is not just a movement organized by the Bad Batch or Rex, but that this is probably happening with several clones throughout the galaxy, as they are seeing that the empire is no good and that even the inhibitor chips are not stopping the clones from rebelling, as Cody shows.

In short, I consider this episode important mostly because for me it is a build up to Crosshair’s change of side, and this is one of the most important moments in the Bad Batch show. Without it, his decision loses some impact. But again, I thought your edit was really great. You made me feel like Pabu’s scenes are important to the story lol, something I failed to realize while watching the original season. Also, I was going through a pretty stressful week when I watched your edit, and it helped me distract myself and disconnect from my problems, so thanks again 😄

I mean, the show isn’t even that good. It’s like a 6.5 out of 10, mostly. It’s certainly no Andor. It still suffers a bit from pointless filler episodes. But I’m just pleasantly surprised to see actual competent writing in Star Wars these days.

Yeah, I agree. But the show is 6.5/10 mostly because of the filler content, that makes the show weak. If this series is just the good content, it could be 8.5, or even 9, for what it is proposed. And I’m glad this isn’t like Andor 😄

I think it’ll be interesting to see a “must watch episodes guide” to this series after it ends; without the filler and aimless episodes in season 1 and early season 2. Or a strong stripped-down fan edit of the series.

100% this. Smudger9 season 1 edit of Bad Batch is really good.

I watched the season 1 edit, and I really liked it. Personally, I found Cad Bane’s plot a bit filler and out of touch with the main plot of the movie you constructed, but I think that’s just me. And personally I didn’t understand much What happened to Gregor, because it seems like he disappeared out of nowhere 😄. But I thought the edit was very solid, I really had a good time watching it

The idea that anyone can use the force is introduced in A New Hope

That’s still not how the Force works. You don’t go from level one to one hundred in a matter of minutes, especially if you’re Sabine and didn’t really learn anything.

Luke went from struggling with a training droid to guiding a proton torpedo into an exhaust port within one day. Sabine went from sensing Ahsoka’s presence to pushing a guy a few feet within a few days.

Luke is naturally strong with the Force. Sabine isn’t. Nor does she seem to resonate strongly with the ways of the Jedi.

You don’t see a problem, from a narrative point of view, with the idea that anybody can become a powerful Force user, despite having no aptitude for it, and putting in minimal effort?

…I suppose that’s an opinion one could hold.

Yes?

“The Force is an energy field that binds all living things. It surrounds us, and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”

“The Force resides in all living things. But you have to be open to it.”

Practically every mentor character in Star Wars screams that anyone can use the Force, so long as they are open to it. Sabine’s arc is about opening up. The implication that one needs to be naturally strong in order to excel in the Force is antithetical to what Star Wars preaches.

Qui-Gon Jinn wants to have a talk with you about midi-chlorians.

Everything everyone else said is right. I wasn’t rooting for the show to get better because that would just be wasted, but it’s fun to watch it to pick it apart anyway.
I have no problems with Thrawn’s casting. He does the voice really well, which makes sense. The issue is the writing, of course. They didn’t really have a way to make him tactically genius. His main gimmick seems to be commenting on acceptable losses.
Mercenaries die. Ah, an acceptable loss.
Baylan quits. Ah, an acceptable loss.
Stormtroopers die. Ah, an acceptable loss.
TIE fighters run into the enemy ship for no reason. Ah, an acceptable loss.
Morgan dies. Ah, an acceptable loss.

In my opinion, you and WitchDR illustrated well how amateur this show was in terms of script, production, etc. Personally, I also found the zombie stormtroopers very embarrassing (I didn’t think the idea was bad, but the execution was very ridiculous).

I even wonder if this series (at least the first season) is necessary for the mandoverse. Honestly, depending on how things go until Filoni’s film, perhaps it could be completely skipped in future fan edits.

Firstly, this series appears to have almost no connection to Ahsoka’s appearances in Mando and BOBF. In Mando she questions Morgan about Thrawn, and this was not addressed in the Ahsoka show. In the series we find out that she trained Sabine, but this is not even mentioned in Mando and BOBF. Now we find out that she was conflicted, but that hasn’t come across in her appearances so far either, because the character is completely different in this show.

Secondly, everything points to Ahsoka returning with Sabine in a possible second season, which in theory would make her trip to another galaxy something “skippable” in an edit. Thrawn’s return is the type of information that can be reported in a crawl, for example, as well as the information that Ahsoka has a padawan.

I would really like to have seen a more character driven season, as Ahsoka from the animations is a very good character. But unfortunately, the character development was the series’ biggest flaw, in my opinion.

Every episode dragged a lot. If the last one get right into the point, it could certainly resolve the plot points so far. Unfortunately, this episode should be a smash to elevate considerably the level of the series, but I personally don’t see it happening. Overall, Ahsoka disappointed hard a bunch of fans. Of course a lot of people liked/loved it, but I feel that the show is becoming more and more divisive over time as TLJ and Andor.

I have an idea, I don’t know if it would work in practice. I think it would be interesting to start the story with some of the clone wars scenes shown in the series.

I say this because Ahsoka, in theory, starts in the series with a conflict, right? However, the public only discovers that she is conflicted in episode 5. Personally, I think that focusing on the character’s development is more interesting than the quest to prevent Thrawn from returning. This is Ahsoka’s series, after all. Showing her conflict right away would serve to introduce the character in a more appropriate way than fighting robots in a temple, serving to tell her personal journey since the beginning of the story.

That said, I think it would be interesting to show some of these scenes as a dream of Ahsoka, and show her waking up from this dream in that scene with Hyuang on the ship, and only after that begin the plot of Ezra/Thrawn’s search. Later on, when Baylan knocks her into the water, the focus would be on the world between worlds sequence, where she would get the motivation to move forward, leaving the conflict behind.

I don’t get why people are saying “oh people are going to hate the turtle aliens for sure!” They are easily the least offensive, most normal thing in the show lol. I loved the porgs in TLJ too. I’m much more concerned with everything else going on.

I agree. What bothers me most about the show is the fact that it is something made strictly for those who watched Rebels. The series assumes that all its viewers have already watched the animation and simply continues the arcs of the characters created there, making no effort to re-present their motivations in a satisfactory way. I haven’t watched it, and I have a really hard time caring about the journeys of Ezra, Sabine, Hera, etc. As their arcs are a vital part of Ahsoka’s story, the series itself has been pretty boring for me.

Thrawn himself, I found to be a very dull character. I would be much more engaged in the story if they created something that addressed more of the events of the original trilogy or even the mandoverse. For example, if it were revealed that Grogu’s kidnapping was an order from Thrawn or something like that.

It’s no wonder that Baylan and Shin have become two of the public’s favorites, after all they at least have a certain charisma. All the other characters so far, including Ahsoka, are very poorly worked (at least, in my opinion).

MY FEEDBACK: so I’m doing it here. So I watched the first episode and I have to admit it’s pretty rough I like the idea of cutting the movie into an episode and respect you for trying to your best but honestly, I don’t think it works that well but don’t worry cause I have a few ideas on how this can possibly be improved.
Issues:
I think overall the whole episode went by way too fast and even with the beginning text at the start it’s hard to tell what’s going on throughout the episode, and anakin and ahsoka feel so unnatural, every scene they’re in together anakin just seems mean to ahsoka with no reasoning, I think this is a cause of removing her “annoying/bratty” scenes it makes ahsoka feel more likable and more respectful but it kinda dumps on anakin a lot in the process, making him seem like a total jerk to her for no reason, I also feel like there dynamic/relationship lost it’s touch during this, the whole skyguy and snips had a charm to it removing made there relationship and scenes fall flat, I think what makes anakin ans ahsoka’s relationship and characters so good is how they start off kinda annoying each other having a big brother little sister feel to it and then slowly going to become more fond of each other through the show it gives it time to build and feel natural that’s what makes ahsoka leaving the order hit so hard, seeing her “snippiness” fading away as she matures and gets older throughout the show, and anakin learning how to be a good master and caring for ahsoka. That touch feels kinda lost specially without that skyguy and snips dynamic. at the end of the episode anakin had absolutely no reason to keep ahsoka as his padawan they pretty much never bonded throughout the episode to change anakins mind he starts off by not wanting her and chooses to keep her without any reason, also whatever happened to ventress after the fight never gets explain we don’t see where she went after it seemed like she was planning to attack obiwan and anakin but never acted on it?. also near the end of the episode bail and yoda send a message to obiwan and it just plays over a scene with anakin and ahsoka and felt very odd I feel like when the message played it should’ve shown bail and yoda or obiwan that probably would’ve worked better. But I do understand you tried your best much respect hope this feel back helps also here’s ways I think these issues can be fixed.
Ways to fix it:
I think a lot of these issues can be fixed, by extending the episode or making an extended version for those who miss that snippiness/skyguy&snips dynamic, I understand the movie and episodes are rough and hard to edit into something that works however I think re-adding scenes back in will help this a lot, what needs to be improved the most is giving anakin and ahsoka more time together either if it’s scenes of them getting along or arguing with each other I think it’ll help it feel better, add back ahsokas snippy side, and try to help give anakin more of a reasoning to keep Ahsoka as his padawan (not saying it’ll be easy) but there has to be some way to achieve that, I also think ventress needs more of a role in this episode to make her, being in it make sense, I think simple adding more scenes and fleshing the whole episode out more will improve it a lot right now it feels extremely rushed and too fast paced,
Side note:
Off topic I know in this edit your trying ti make the droids less goofy, I wanna say this of course it’s your edit and this is just my feedback after all but Star Wars has always been known for having a goofy side to it orginals and prequels never took itself too seriously of course it did when it needed too and so does the clone wars, I mean even revenge of the sith is the most meme-able movie out of the saga, what I’m trying to say is I find that the droid slap stick humor works in the clone wars a lot and adds a lot of charm to it. Thanks for reading my feedback hope it helps.
Anyone else agree or disagree what’s your guys about this?

I agree with your interpretation about Anakin and Ahsoka relationship, and with your opinion about the droids humor. However, at the same time, I didn’t watch Eddie’s edit (just the episode with forces of destiny and that one where grievous lair ep is fused with the nightsisters arc), and so I don’t know if his interpretation about the series in general works for me or not.

Maybe the edit is more targeted to people that didn’t like the original clone wars that much, or liked it but had problems with some things like the show’s humor or personality traits of certain characters, like Ahsoka. If that’s the case, he’s probably just addressing this kind of frustrations that some fans probably have with the series.

I, for example, really liked the original show and don’t have any big problem that make me want to see fixed in an edit like this, but I think it’s interesting to see how this thread unfolds and the development of the edit itself. Regarding the original show, I usually just skip the arcs that I don’t like, and works fine.

Mando EP4: Return to Mandalore 4K [RELEASED]
Time

I understand your point of view, but at the same time I find it curious the addition of the Nevarro Cloning facility plot in the second movie due to the Gideon clones plot of this season. After all, the original reason you took that part out, if I understand correctly, was that it went nowhere in season two. However, this whole cloning plot is not at all relevant in season 3 either. In fact, I think that even if you cut out all the mentions of Gideon’s clones it wouldn’t change anything in this season’s story, because the clones are shown and killed moments later, with no repercussions for the story or the characters.

Of course, with Gideon returning in the coming seasons, these scenes will likely become somewhat relevant, but so far, they’re largely pointless (not that these scenes bother me to the point that I don’t want to see them, I just found it interesting to comment on the subject).

I think its apart of the youngling episode where they go to the icecave and stuff, that you have yet to include. Its apart of the intro narration I think.

Yeah, this scene was randomly introduced in the intro narration of this episode, I don’t know why. And it’s an important scene, since it’s the only scene that shows her link with Plo before she encounters Anakin for the first time. Besides that scene, the audience just knows their relationship through mentions between the characters.

I watched Dreams of Destiny (Interlude) here, and I really liked it. The order of the shorts was excellent.

A random question: I didn’t watch the other episodes you edited, and I remember that in one of the original clone wars episodes, there’s a brief flashback of very young Ahsoka with Plo Koon. Did you insert this scene in one of your edits? This doubt arose due to the fact that this specific scene was introduced in a recap, as far as I remember.
