KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY [The Radical "Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi" Cut]
Time

For now, this seems to work better as a movie to me, rather than a series.

I don’t know how this series will develop, but for now, it would make a lot more sense to me if it was Vader leading this hunt for Obi-Wan, instead of Reva. Of course she should have a big motivation to hunt him, as it was implied already, but no one would have a stronger motivation than Vader himself.

I don’t know if it could work through AI voice lines, but it could be cool to see Vader ordering the inquisitors to hunt down Obi-Wan rather than Reva doing that by herself.

And I agree about the opinion to cut the inquisitors completely, if possible. Reva seems hard to cut, since she is the character that is moving the plot, and cutting her entirely would demand too much effort to make the plot work with editing. But, of course, the more the inquisitors are toned down the better, they are too bad unfortunately.

I really think you should use the footage of the Cad Bane fan film to fill his absence in the series. Not too much of it, since the visual of Bane between BOBF and this fan film don’t match, but certain scenes. In the beginning of the fan film we have T0D0 talking to a jawa being held captive, and then the first glimpse of Bane is just his arm. This could be totally usable, since in one scene of BOBF was showed the jawas being afraid of Bane. Just insert some dialogue of Bane in this scene, to establish his involvement in the story of BOBF, and that’s it (maybe a few lines mentioning the pykes and Boba). In 12min48sec, there is a take of Bane’s eyes that is totally usable too. These kinds of takes that just focus on his arm or eyes could help to introduce the character, while still maintaining the mystery around his figure (which will show entirely just in his fight against Cobb Vainth).

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

I’m actually quite optimistic that this show will heal the breach between episodes 3 and 4. When I used to watch the 6 films in order, it never really felt like the OT was in the same universe as the PT (with the possible exception of RoTJ which does feel rather prequel-like). In this instance the actors are the right age to match their counterparts in ep 4, and the aesthetic mix of prequel-ness and OT-ness should make the transition to the OT much smoother. Plus I’m assuming the strengthening of the relationships between Obi Wan and Owen combined with some attention to known quotes (“Obi Wan once thought as you do” for instance) will make the saga more cohesive. Here’s hoping…

Totally agree with all that you said. I respect Lucas’ opinions whan he said that, for him, the story through 1-6 is cohesive, but I don’t think so. For me the transition between III and IV is really hard, and I never truly saw 1-6 as a saga. I always felt that there was a missing piece between these movies.

A suggestion for the Hutts/rancor problem: we could just have the Hutts giving the rancor as an incentive for Boba to resolve the pikes problem for them (putting this information in the subtitles), implying that, if the pykes takes control of the spice route of Tatooine, it could be problematic for the Hutts business. If this information is inserted in the scene where they give the rancor to Boba, and if you manage to cut Krrsantan off this sequence, maybe you could establish the Krrsantan bar scene as his introduction, this way cutting the connection between Krrsantan and the Hutts.

Saw the 2nd trailer. Still doesn’t do anything for me.

Same.

I agree with CarboniteSolo, they need to polish the scripts much more. We had so missed opportunities in prequels, sequels and more recently in BOBF. Another said that this show would have been better as a movie, and I almost agree with it by just seeing the cinematography of the trailers.

Just hoping for the writing to be not disappointing, for real. This was the biggest flaw in Star Wars in many years for me, more than the “superficial” look of the prequels, for example.

Personally, I just think that Krrsantan’s introduction could be the bar scene. There we discover that he was a really strong ex-gladiator and stuff, giving Boba a good motive to wish him in his team. I agree with szopman about cutting the scene of Krrsantan attacking Boba, since this scene happened just because the Hutts ordered Krrsantan to do it, witch doesn’t make much sense since they help Boba hours later by giving him the Rancor as a present for a non believable reason. Let’s be honest here, the Hutts are totally useless for the narrative in the series, except for the Rancor. I think that it will be much better if their motivation was different than what the show gave us (just my thoughts though, I respect your take too on the way you handled this part in your edit).

About the flashbacks, I have a suggestion on how you could get rid of them without getting rid of them, necessarily talking about. Maybe you could add one big flashback sometime in the first act of the edit, introducing it on a specific moment of the narrative where the present situation makes Boba remember his past with the tuskens, and end this first flashback with a cliffhanger. Then, in the rest of the edit, you could add the second flashback that will resume Boba’s past in another appropriate moment, one where it makes sense for the present narrative. Of course this is just an idea, I don’t know if it would work for real in the edit.

I’d be interested to know from others here what combination of scenes from the first act would make the most compelling opening to the movie.

I suggested this before, and I still think that the fan film Darth Maul: Apprentice could have some usage here. Just start it with a bang and put a few scenes of Maul killing some jedis and make it seems like he is on Naboo. Soo, here, this could be a good reason why Qui Gon goes to Naboo in the forest area (since Maul fights the other jedi in the forest in the fan film), implying in the crawl that Qui Gon goes to Naboo seeking a jedi killer or something. Just an idea, though.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

I think I’m one of the few that doesn’t mind about Kenobi and Vader fighting each other, since their encounter have the potential to tie up some loose ends of the movies. The only thing I’m really concerned about is Reva, the new inquisitor. Acording to rumors, this character will be too much relevant in this series, which can take the spotlight off Kenobi in the show:

Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett will drop on Disney+ on May 4 to celebrate Star Wars Day.

The official description can be seen below:

“‘Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett’ explores the behind-the-scenes story of the legendary bounty hunter’s return to Tatooine with mercenary Fennec Shand, seeking to claim the territory once run by Jabba the Hutt. In this insightful new special, filmmakers, cast and crew reveal never-before-seen footage, groundbreaking technology and the practical effects that brought it all to life.”

I enjoyed “Disney Galleries” for The Mandalorian, so I hope I will enjoy this as well. And the “never-before-seen footage” are unused scenes or alternative shots from the series itself.

I think that must be just backstage footage and shots without special effects.

Should the sequel trilogy be "reworked" to make them better movies?

Yes, along with the Prequels too. Both trilogies could benefit from a “Special Edition” release.

Totally agree. The fan edits in this site saved episodes 2 and 3 for me. Otherwise I would still think that these movies couldn’t be redeemed (I still don’t like TPM though). If the sequels receive new content in the form of a special edition of sorts, I think that they can be saved from the disaster they are now. But, to me, they will never do this, unfortunately.

Then the ending, featuring the turn, and victory:
3. Obi-Wan’s being taunted by Maul’s sparks, but jumps up and bisects him. Hope for the Obi-Wan plot
4. Padmé’s team capture Gunray. Mission victory comes LAST, so we don’t get the high while Obi-Wan’s still in trouble.
5. Back to Obi-Wan, for Qui-Gon’s death scene. *Now that the mission is complete, we see the cost of victory."
6. Endings.

I understood what you meant to do with 4 and 5, but personally watching the clip, I think that the sequence would flow better with 3, 5 and 4. Cut to a brief scene of ten seconds, just to return to the exact same moment where we are before, got weird for me. Besides that, I think that the whole clip flowed really smooth, I couldn’t even tell what was edited and what wasn’t, you did a really good job with it.

While I agree with you that it is for “woke” reasons, I’m always willing to look past it if the character is done well. I do think your right in your assessment. She’ll be the big hero at the end of it, saving Kenobi or something against Vader. If she’s propped up at the expense of Kenobi, it will be another case of them destroying the legacy characters in favor of propping their own characters up. They did it with Boba and Fennec. Boba was weak and stupid, while the Fennec was the smart and decisive one. I don’t even hate Fennec, but it’s just so obvious in that show.

Totally agree. A “strong female character” is never just a “random strong female character” in Disney Star Wars, we all know this. Rey, Holdo and Fennec (in BOBF) had the power to make men around them seem stupid. This new inquisitor have more screen time than any other character in the trailer. It isn’t a “conspiracy theory”, the concern is real.
