As far as I know there is no DVD of the movie "The Human Shield" (with Michael Dudikoff) released in USA.

There is a DVD release in Sweden with Fullscreen and English 2.0 Audio.

(I don't know where to get it, here is an image.)

In France there seem to exist two DVDs, one with english Audio and one without it. The movie is called "Le Bouclier Humain" in France.

The DVDs from Germany and Belgium are just Bootlegs, containing english Audio. The picture quality of the german bootleg is stated to be "good". The German Title of this Movie is "Marine Fighter".

Maybe one of the DVDs could be used for a PAL to NTSC conversion, if someone could get it hands on it.

The movie was released in the U.S. on Laserdisc.

Where did the Mon Calamari come from?

Yeah, wow, "The Apple," where Kirk takes the Prime Directive and sodomizes it until it begs for mercy.  "But what about the non-interference clause?"  "Aw, fuck that shit.  They don't live the way I want them to, so Starfleet can kiss my bronzed, muscular ass!"

In Kirk's defense, he lost one redshirt too many on the landing party. (Spock almost bought the farm too.) Vaal, not Kirk introduced murder to his innocent children. And let's not forget, Mr. Paper Mache lizard head tried to destroy the Enterprise. Mess with Kirk's first love, and you sign your own death warrant. ;)

"Bounty Hunter"?
Time

Han refers to Jabba as Greedo's boss. (As in Greedo is a regular employee of the Hutt.) Jabba even expresses a little regret that he's dead in the docking bay scene restored to the SE. (Crappy CGI and gratuitous Boba cameo aside, it's still the original dialog.) You'd think he'd be relieved he didn't have to pay him!

Greedo offers to forget seeing Solo if he coughs up the money on the spot. The line about "looking forward to this for a long time" implies a personal dislike or grudge against Solo. It may be splitting hairs, but Greedo does not come off as a professional bounty hunter, more of an opportunist who happened to spot Han in the cantina that day, and didn't live long enough to regret it.

"Bounty Hunter"?
Time

I've long forgotten the source, but circa 1980 Boba's outfit was referred to as "old shocktrooper armor" and I probably wasn't the only fan who decided that this was something worn during the Clone Wars.

Isn't there an early costume test photo where Boba's armor is pristine and white?

One of the early fake trailers for Episode II had a shot of a whole squad of guys in Fett armor. The maker must have remembered the same stuff I read.

"Bounty Hunter"?

Has there ever been an "official" explanation as to why Boba was hanging around Jabba's palace? You'd think he would be off somewhere spending the dough long before the events in the film.

If a specific price is put on Anakin's or any other Jedi's head in season II, then it's safe to say a bounty is involved.

I can't see any reason a bounty hunter in the SW universe couldn't moonlight doing the odd hitman job or two.

Greedo wasn't a bounty hunter. He was just a clumsy henchman, with incredible eyesight problems added in the special edition. ;)

"explanations" about Vader
Time

Yeah, the DS looks like an erector set in ROTS, and even in zero G, that seems a flimsy way to build a station the size of a small moon. Wouldn't it make more sense to start building the "core" and work your way outward? The "unfinished" DSII looks more realistic.

I also don't buy that it took twenty years to build the damn thing. :P

Prowse hasn't been in George's good graces since the filming of Jedi, so it was unlikely  was he going to get to play Vader one last time.

Not having Vader in "prototype" armor modeled after McQuarrie's early concept art was a missed opportunity. Not to mention the suit looks too modern compared to the 1977 costume.

I'm surprised Tarkin isn't in the Clone Wars series. Instead, we have one of the guys who sat around the Death Star conference table and didn't have any lines.

Tarkin wearing the same uniform for twenty years might explain the stench though! ;)

Star Trek 11 - Star Wars?
Time

What's with the generalities? A lot of Trek fans love Star Wars, myself included. SW is the main reason Paramount bumped what might have been a short lived tv revival into a full fledged big budget movie.

Star Trek did do alien bar fights and a giant planet destroying machine first. ;)

Both films have drawn upon universal themes of a hero's journey from callow youth to experienced leader. Luke and Ben have been compared to Arthur and Merlin since the beginning. Spock is Kirk's Merlin in a way.

I thought Abrams made a damn good movie. I'm not a fan of shaky cam, nor lens flares, but the movie has an epic feel to it. Only Star Trek could be rebooted like this, and keep what has gone before, yet have it be a new separate timeline where things will be different. I hated what happens to Vulcan, and Amanda's death, but in terms of the story they made sense.

And being a "tv guy" doesn't mean you can't make feature films, just ask Steven Spielberg. ;)

Going back to Kirk and Spock was really the only way to go, they are the characters even non-fans know.

Star Wars - Poorly Directed?

Gaffer Tape said:

Eh, I really, really hesitate to say this, but I can see where someone making that claim would come from.  The documentary-esque style could appear to some to be rushed and simplistic, especially compared to the cinematic cohesion of Empire.  And I know most of us attribute a lot of the success of the original films to Marcia's editing, but there are a few sloppy moments in there.  Don't tell me you've never noticed any, like in the scene where Tarkin learns that Leia lied about the location of the Rebel base.

Vader and Tarkin in a master shot:
Vader:  I told you she would never consciously betray the rebellion.
(long pause.  Vader begins wagging his finger as if Dave Prowse was giving a line, but Vader is not saying anything!)
Tarkin:  Terminate her, immediately!

Haha, never ceases to crack me up!  Hard to say if that's a problem with the editing or with the footage that George shot, or maybe Prowse.  Who knows, but it's a glaring, poorly-constructed error.

It's a strange error to be sure. (Is there a line in the script that should have been dubbed in there?) The ironic thing is, when Star Wars first aired on CBS, someone cut that little boo boo out! It's interesting Lucas never "fixed" that for the SE.

Star Tours II: New Footage released

2011? That's a long way off for this to be the final rendered footage.

Bear in mind, we are talking about a ride here, not just a digital movie. The ride will open in 2011, there is a lot more involved in the process of opening this ride than just video sequence.

We're talking about an existing ride that's still somewhat popular. (And Disney knows the fuss that ensues if you change a classic too much.) And how much are they really going to spend on a refurb aside from changing out the ride film, and maybe changing some of the audio tracks? They've been promising new destinations since the 90's, and money was allegedly the main stalling point.

If they keep the existing footage as one of the destinations, (and they had better!) stuff that looks straight out of a Playstation game is going to look like crap compared to real models shot on 70mm.

Star Wars - Poorly Directed?
Time

What reviews, where? Anybody and their aunt can write a "review" on the net these days. ;)

Show me something that saw print in 1977.

I personally don't think Lucas was a poor director in the 70's. (And if he was, he had an army of seasoned pros helping him.) THX-1138 is a dystopian masterpiece, and American Graffitti was a huge hit that has influenced Hollywood almost as much as Star Wars has.
