Episode II: Attack of the Ridiculousness ***NEW 14 MONTH ANNIVERSARY DVD NOW AVAILABLE***
Time

It's wonderful!

Since you can't replace the monsters' voices, perhaps give them occasional subtitles? The dino thing and the mantis thing could complain it's too early in the morning for this crap. They look cranky anyway.

*Cat thing attacks handler*

"Neuter me, will you!"

*Mantis thing get zapped in the butt*

"Hey! Watch the abdomen!"

*Mantis thing tries to kill tied up Obi Wan*

"Hold still! This will only hurt a lot."

Maul WAS to be Grievous at some point. See Here...
Time

Actually, they used a Boba Fett figure, (large and small) for all of it. Boba was standing in for the Biker Scout, as an action figure of it didn't exist yet, and was the one character similar enough in design to the scouts.

If Grevious wasn't supposed to be Maul, it should have been a simple matter to scan some of the preproduction art and use the eyes. Using Maul's eyes was a deliberate choice. Whether it was it was a subtle ploy to sell George on the idea, or an abandoned concept is up in the air.

John Carter, 2 stars in my opinion not a turkey but not worth the 250 million it cost to make or the 200 million dollar write down it cost Disney.

Yeah the films the Burroughs books inspired are far better films though, especially that 4 star masterpiece from 1977 known as star wars that cost a paltry 10 million to make and no cartoon cgi or shooting on video was needed.

They took all the badass superhuman coolness of John Carter and tried to make him a reluctant hero who refuses to fight.

John Carter the greatest swordsman of 3 worlds refuses to fight, lol.

Far worse than the butcher job they did with Tolkien's writing in peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, which still was closer in spirit to those books than John Carter was to A Princess Of Mars.

Because of Disney's hatchet job the Venus Series will now never be made into films, the rest of the martian series won't either, and a faithful tarzan as far as possible minus the racism of the time is now out of the question.

It seems the "biggest bomb" of the year didn't hurt the House of Mouse's bottom line any...

But I believe studio accounting practices rival that of organized crime anyway. ;)

"Welcome, to another edition of Thunderdome!"

Crowd chant: "Two Jedi enter! No Jedi leaves!"

Or "Let Mortal Kombat begin!"

Maybe the Mortal Kombat song could work here?

The arena monsters could be redubbed for comedic effect. Godzilla sound FX perhaps? The cat like creature could sound like a housecat...

If you want to speed things along, using the previously mentioned Nute Gunray "Get on with it!" line from the deleted scene could work here.

You could even randomly throw in some crowd reaction shots from John Carter's arena battle for cheap laughs.

And don't forget the Shaft theme song for when Mace makes his entrance. ;)

Kenneth Johnson was sorely missed on the second V miniseries. (There was an old Starlog interview where he talked about what his version would have been.) And when NBC had promos running for "V: The Series" during the broadcast, how the heck was one supposed to take the "Final Battle" moniker seriously?

However, Jane Badler can brainwash me anytime. ;)

The response from CBS on the audio issue is pretty respectable. They're not even asking people to mail in UPCs, receipts, or the original discs. I put my request in yesterday.

Did somebody find some easter eggs ? After ripping disc 6 I found a short Data make-up test which I don't remember seeing in the main menu

I'd read somewhere that there was an Easter egg on disc 6, so that's probably it.

How are you enjoying the set so far, audio issues aside?

I absolutely love the new transfer. There are so many new details on the Enterprise model ... However I don't like the CGI models, the CG Enterprise looks quite different than the physical model

The smaller four foot Enterprise model they used for much of the series always stuck out like a sore thumb to me, even in SD. Some things never change. ;)

Info: Project Closed --- Argaï - The Prophecy (2000) : Multilanguaged Dubs/Voice Overs!
Time

Don't get discouraged. The right people seem to find this place and help out with such projects eventually. It may take a while.

I'm not familiar with the show, but it looks interesting. I'll ask some people I know elsewhere if nobody here comes forward in a few weeks. I just got back from vacation myself and only now saw this.

And welcome to the board. :)

Rob Bottin
Time

My favorite Rob Bottin creations have to be the aliens from my favorite Joe Dante movie Explorers. Robert Picardo plays two of them. The movie made me a fan of both men. (I was Joe Dante fan already after Gremlins.)

It's too bad Bottin is retired. Rick Baker is still going strong. Come back Rob! We miss your awesome work!

I saw some fantastic life size replicas of Bottin's Darkness and Meg Mucklebones from Legend, as well as a Howling werewolf at Monsterpalooza last year.
