I don't know the details of Cheewie's death (I don't even know in which novel they made it) and I don't really care about it. But I have to disagree with what you said. Something like that really doesn't need detailed explaining. All it needs is a scene where Han or someone else mentions it.

For example in ROTS, the kidnapping of the Palpatine was a major plot point that was never directly explained in the film and yet it worked okay. The kidnapping was shown in the less known Clone Wars cartoons.

We saw the end result of the kidnapping though. Chewie deserves more than a throwaway line that he died years ago.

They're not about to hamstring the sequels by keeping continuity with the books anyway, so the point is moot.

Any sketch comedy is going to be hit or miss. RC usually bats it out of the park on their Trek and SW parodies though. This one is pure genius...

I've never seen them parody any of the later series except for TNG.

I feel Patrick Stewart is too good an actor to be slumming it in Seth McFarlane's shows, but then again he was in LifeForce. ;)

It's a foregone conclusion Paramount will put one out in 2016 for the big Five-Oh. With Ep7 likely hitting in May of 2015, Abrams could conceivably come back to direct Trek 3 in time for a November/December 2016 release.

Oh, and Chewie's dead. Mayhew got his chance to come back in ROTS.

Like I've said again and again regarding all the post-Jedi continuity: it's one thing to ignore, but it's another thing to pretend it never happened.

The EU doesn't matter where the films are concerned. George has always had the last word on that. Why should the films have to be burdened with baggage the casual fan knows next to nothing about? Having to explain to the audience why Chewie's not around would be awkward and sound forced, like when a beloved character vanishes from a  tv show never to return.

Thirty years of relative peace and prosperity in the galaxy, with dark clouds forming on the horizon is the best way to begin again. Otherwise, the opening crawl is going to be half an hour long. ;)

If Mayhew can teach a protege' to take over the role if needed, I could live with that.

Killing off a mentor/father figure has been done one too many times. That, and I'm still pissed Abrams killed a well liked character in STID. (It wasn't even a good death like Kirk's dad in the first film.) If Luke buys the moisture farm, he comes back a ghost anyway.

The massive fan freakout to Chewie's death in a novel 14 years ago is a good indication of what may happen if somebody bites it in the sequel. They probably don't want to go through that again, so the Wook is safe for now.

Droid death can be cheated, since they can probably put the memory in a new body. Artoo or Threepio getting vaporized or melted beyond recognition is the only permanent rub out for them, but you're back to the Chewie backlash scenario.

Leia dying depends on where she's at 30 years on. Presumably she's in a prominent leader role, and possibly become a Jedi.

Han is the logical one to kill, if he goes out doing what he does best, and it's a noble sacrifice. (No falling off a damn bridge!) Harrison has wanted it since Jedi, and might have even asked for it as a condition for returning.

It's a Kobayashi Maru no matter who you kill. And they sure as heck won't kill Lando. ;)

Is his "that's impossible, even for a computer" line dubbed by the same guy who dubbed the lines for "real" Wedge?

What?? Dude who gives a shit??? Lol

You really asked that on a Star Wars board? A little politeness goes a long way.

I can't be the only one who thought both Wedges were the same fellow, as the dubbing creates that impression, and Lawson was never seen with his helmet off until Jedi.

Sorry to hear about another SW actor passing away. Mr. Higgins did not deserve the "fake Wedge" label.
