Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Oh wow, a non scientific poll taken of a few hundred hardcore fans at a Trek con three months after the movie came out? What a shocker! ;)

The merits, (or lack thereof) of STID aside, the deck was pretty stacked against it in this scenario. It's like putting all of us in a room to rank the prequels. It's a foregone conclusion.

That article trying to spin it into meaning trouble for Episode VII is a stretch, since the STID scriptwriters aren't involved.

THX 1138 "preservations" + the 'THX 1138 Italian Cut' project (Released)

I hope when you're tanned, rested, and ready you'll consider working on a less stressful project in the future. The test clips you posted looked great, better than my original captures. You deserve a lot of credit no matter who takes this project up that final ladder climb to the surface. Not to mention what you did with the mystery Italian Cut.

I got a couple things on the back burner that are mercifully free of the need for Laserdisc captured video. ;)

The Mono Mix Restoration Project (Released)
Time

Also, nobody knew at the time if Dolby Stereo was going to be a flash in the pan or not. Other systems such as Sound 360, and Megasound both fell into obscurity.

Even something as reasonably successful as Sensurround was only used on four movies. Given the potential for structural damage in old theaters, we're probably safer now without  it. ;)

Ben Burtt has been quoted as saying the mono mix was intended to be the "definitive" version.

I don't think Sith can appear as ghosts. Hologram or a Sith holocron image is another matter entirely.

Normally, I wouldn't bring this up, but seeing as you mentioned a Sith holocron, which is itself an invent of the EU and doesn't feature in any of the films ...

Lucas got the name of Coruscant from the EU, so I figure the door is open to such things. There's no reason Luke or someone else can't find one in a desolate ruin somewhere. It doesn't have to be overly explained to the audience what the gizmo does once it's seen in action. In some ways they are like the Kryptonian crystals in the Superman films.

Once the LD transfer is finished, since we keep running into brick "coily" walls, is there a reason why we don't take a look at utilizing the BD transfer as a source for a reconstruction ala DeSpecialized? I never even considered the BD due to it being the same DC master, but that may be the only way to get more detail and to get away from the inherent defects of the LD master itself.

Call it the "Buy more. Buy more now. Buy more and be happy" Edition. ;)

IIRC, it was discussed, but the extensive editorial and CGI changes to the film make it difficult, if not impossible. We can't use shots that aren't even there any more. :(

One or two shots, (like the albino lizard) *might* be fixable using the old Japanese pan and scan LD...

Ryan, mind showing me when Han wore blue and wielded a lightsaber in the movie then? ;)

That was all I could find on short notice, Ralph did do paintings of the original Falcon design and such. Why they were not included in the portfolio back in the day, I have no idea.

As Yoda sprung up out of the need to complete Luke's training after George decided to kill off Ben during filming, (notice Obi Wan is in the medal ceremony painting) I don't think he's showing up.

Have you tried the earliest U.S. LD release of Dirty Harry?

The downside is no CX noise reduction.

Early Japanese pressings of Warner titles have similar Jacket design.
