If it was done right. Whether it could get ratings in the current splintered tv landscape is another matter. (Does Nielsen even factor in online viewing?) The conditions that allowed TNG to thrive no longer exist.

Maybe a miniseries, or a series of direct to video movies? The studio may be leery of ever having a Trek show on the air at the same time a feature film is in theaters again.
I think Dorn's "Captain Worf" idea as a miniseries would be cool. And if it worked like BSG's miniseries did, then take it to series. But you're also right in that the casual viewer might be confused by having a series taking place in a different timeline than the movies coming out at the same time.

Yes, I know that Superman Returns came out while Smallville was on the air. I still think people might have been confused.

The hardcore fans probably were not confused. Some wanted Smallville to seque into a Superman movie with the same cast. Fans of the show deserved a little more of Welling in the suit than they actually got at the end.

What I should have said is, in the minds of the studio suits, there might be the fear that some people won't go see a movie when the tv show is on for free.

Some of the people making Trek fan productions might just be the ones who could take up the reins, but I know Hollywood seldom works that way.

Is anybody Surprised trek 13 is well into development at Paramount and Orci and Kurtzmen are back as the writers.  Some peoples hopes for their firing have been dashed, oh well.

Rumors suggest the director is the Rupert Wyatt who directed rise of the planet of the apes.  And we will have a 2016 release date.

I hope this time its not a space revenge movie.  A ripoff of star wars or the wrath of khan. I don't want any more nods to nostalgia or retreads of classic episodes or movies.  Something new and fresh would be nice.  But not likely.

Its like every superman movie having to either be about Zod or Lex luthor.

Generations is horrible it would have played fine as a tv episode, but it is neither a classic tos cast movie or TNG movie.  It also gave STID the idea of killing Kirk.  The way they killed off Kirk was stupid.  The way he is buried is also laughably bad.   Lets just leave his body on Veridian III covered with rocks.

It made his body easier to be found by the Borg though. ;)

Three years is a bit long to wait for another Trek movie these days. Four years for STID was way too much. They can only cheat the ages of the actors for so long.

Well, much of those are now in use as I suggested.  But I like the idea of Order 66 causing more destruction.

...

Anyone have a good idea for something similar to the Airplane red zone/white zone gag when they enter the hangar?  I'd like to do something new this time.

Time?

26min 28 seconds. Doesn't that silly link work?

Please ignore the couple of minor rendering blips in the video, I checked the timeline and it has resolved itself.

Also, I should probably find a different shot right before the hanger door starts closing than the one out Anakin's cockpit.

You're on the right track, but the news interruption kind of hits the brakes for me. It ought to just be more movie stuff blowing up in rapid succession. And if you need a good moon explosion there's always Space: 1999. ;)

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

Is it more than a little weird the way nobody is really acknowledging that George Lucas said, flat out, that the original 3 are in the movie. How long ago was that? Is he just losing his marbles? What is the P.R. advantage of ignoring and or contradicting that, unless something weird is going on.

It's the silly games studios and P.R. departments play all the time. They want a big event with lots of reporters and cameras when they make what we already know "official".

I actually hope George will keep stealing their thunder. ;)

Arguably, Stargate is better known in it's tv incarnations than the movie that inspired it. (The only pop culture reference to the film I've ever seen was in a South Park episode.) How many people think of the Robert Altman film when M.A.S.H. is mentioned today?

Sadly, I've seen evidence that Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible films are better known than the classic tv show that it's based on, so it cuts both ways.

Will be interesting to see if anything of note is announced at Disney's D23 expo this weekend.

Just had a thought, I can't remember the plot of Star Trek Into Darkness, I enjoyed it at the time, but now I'm starting to think that the film wasn't that great at all, fantastic effects, but really stupid film, who's fault was that, the writer obviously, but it was JJ's movie

I've got a bad feeling about this, I hope it passes

J

STID didn't have Lawrence Kasdan writing the script.

SDCC news - OUT "quite likely" on Blu-ray

If they were trying to hide the original Tron, it was pretty silly of them. If the kids can't wrap their brain around the fact the movie was made in 1982, that's their problem. I was hoping for an IMAX reissue myself at the time.

Going out and buying a company and franchise built on 1977 film makes perfect sense now. ;)

As Tron 3 still seems to be in the works, Legacy must have made the mouse accountants happy?
