The Empire Strikes Back

Hired a beautiful young actress to play the body of Palpatine (I would have kept Clive Revill to play the voice, though).

May I ask why you think a beautiful young girl is suitable to play Palpatine?

I've grown tired of antagonists who are ugly and misshapen on the outside. IMO, true evil is only ugly on the inside -- on the outside it is beautiful and attractive; if it weren't, if it were as ugly on the outside as on the inside, no one would ever give in to it.

On the flip side, I'd also like to see some protagonists who look like the Elephant Man; stereotypically beautiful heroes are just as tiresome as sterotypically hideous villains.

Beautiful on the inside ;)

Seriously though I agree that more heroes should be unattractive. As long as it stays away from Disney cheapquel fodder.

The irony is when Disney's Hunchback came out, some critics thought Quasimodo had been made to look too cute. Go figure.

No ignore function?

There might be. I haven't looked into that yet.

I'm not sure how much of the LDDb community agrees with them, so I'm not even sure if it's worthwhile to stick around.

I attempted to bring a few of the more "technical" members over to AMPS, but I think that the limited exposure (due to the locked-down nature of AMPS) made them go back to posting on LDDb exclusively.

They come across as ill mannered to say the least. And anyone who isn't seriously thinking about backing up their rare LD's in 2014 is living in denial anyway.

You ought to at least wait to see if that subforum is created or not. If they go in there to bitch, it will only make them look bad.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

I think it's safe to say we aren't getting a G rated SW film. ;)

Is it out of the realm of possibility Disney might release this under one of their other labels? (Which they have done in the past, with edgier fare like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)  Or simply have the Lucasfilm logo at the beginning?

The PG-13 Pirates of the Caribbean movies have gone out under the Disney banner though.

But from a money standpoint its brilliant marketing keep changing the films so people continue to watch the product.

If he let them alone they would be stuck in the time they were made, perhaps Lucas worried the would and cease to be relevant.

Would people have paid tons of cash in 1997 to see non restored not cgi versions of the films.  Would just as many people have bought the dvd's and blu rays if they were simply the theatrical films untouched?

I wish the answer would be yes but i don't know.  Its possible the majority prefer the newer cuts with all the bells and whistles and its borne out really by how much the blu rays have sold.

I've been told by those in the department stores selling the blu rays no one wants the terrible old versions with the bad effects and models on wires.

What marketing data gave them that information? Some "source" at Lucasfilm? Sounds like a steaming load to me! ;)

Lucasfilm and Fox haven't exactly been hyping the constant changes made after 1997. The closing credits have never been updated either. You'd think the folks who worked on the newer shots would want to be acknowledged, except maybe the fellow who gave Wicket demon baby eyes. ;)

AFAIK, the replacement of Creepy Puppet Yoda was not used as a selling point for the Blu Rays.

So since Hell froze over, Fox and WB finally came to terms - Batman '66 on DVD
Time

They'll go back to the negatives and remaster this bat boy for HD. The Green Hornet ran on SciFi a while back, and looked good as new. Hopefully, that's in the pipeline too.

There's money to be made in new HD syndication masters as well. (A factor that drove Paramount to spend big bucks to remaster Star Trek TNG.) Fox won't have to rebuild the episodes from scratch. I don't recall a lot of songs that would be a licensing problem.

I don't see celebrity cameos being a serious problem, unless it involves the estate of one who's difficult to deal with. (Sadly, a lot of them have passed away.)

"In character" cameos like Lurch and Col. Klink, might be tricky, since those characters are obviously not owned by Fox or Warners.

All cameos in one youtube video.

A certain segment of the fandom is a lot older than they were in 1977. Or 1983. Paramount has been chasing a young demographic with Star Trek as of late, and this old fan felt sort of unwanted after seeing STID.

It's unwise to forget us old geezers buy movie tickets too. And those of you lucky enough to have a family, this is going to be a multi generational experience. How often does something come along like that, except when Disney dusts off a classic now and then?

I look forward to seeing old friends reunited to save the galaxy, one last time, and pass the lightsaber to the new kids.

IIRC, there were a lot of old geezer jokes when Star Trek 6 came out, but the original cast had the last laugh.

That should be Holy Hell freezes over, Batman!   ;)

And thank the gods Adam and Burt are still around to contribute commentaries.

I had a feeling something might happen with the plethora of '66 Bat merchandising that's been coming out lately.

Now if we can only get the Back to the Batcave tv movie on Blu Ray in the states. It's already come out overseas.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (1996) - 7/10

 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?

It's shorter than a normal episode, with less jokes so the audience could laugh and not miss a joke. I can see rating it like that.

Since when is 7 out of 10 a low score? I know some here feel that certain films warrant a perfect score, but a 7 is a pretty high score for me. I wouldn't rate most films I've seen above a 6.

Also, MST3K sucks. There are a handful of movies streaming on Netflix that I'd love to revisit, but I don't need three silhouettes telling me how goofy these obviously cheesy films are. I wish there was an option to turn them off and just enjoy Gamera for what it is.

That was uncalled for. And Shout Factory released all the classic Gamera films uncut on DVD, so it's not like anyone is forcing you watch my favorite cow town puppet show. ;)

The tortured history of the movie is well documented. They actually spoofed the studio interference they endured in season seven of the show. Rifftrax really needs to do Barb Wire to extract revenge.

And where the heck were you guys when I proposed restoring the deleted scenes and putting them back in? ;)

I think Han believed in the Force by then. He knew what a Jedi Knight was and believed that Luke was one when Chewie told him.

Actually he made a wisecrack about "delusions of grandeur." ;)

If Luke blowing up the DS didn't make Han a believer, being rescued from Jabba's clutches should have done the trick.

The line "there'll be no escape for the princess this time" should have been "there'll be no escape for the captain this time" - would have removed the continuity error later where C3PO doesn't recognise Princess Leia.

You mean when he pretends not to know who she is when Luke triggers the hologram? When you're a former rebellion droid in the hands of new owners who might be more sympathetic to the Empire, it's best to play dumb in the short term.
